He played there against us didn't he? I'm sure he was in that position when he set up three goals. I could be wrong though.

Match report says Benjani and tevez are isolated so I'm guessing they where 442 with those two up top.

Benjani has none of the attributes needed of a wide player. The only thing we could do with him is hit it long and get him to head it back across ala RSC at United, under Hughes. He had a shot that turned in to a pass from a corner, hit the post when on his own for Richards to smash home, apparently his lay-off for the third missed its target and luckily found tevez.

SO, these three asissts down to skill or dumb luck???

a shot from close in that finds a team-mate, sounds like a poor shot.

Clean through 1 v 1 and hits the post rebound lucky falls to Richards.

Lays off the ball misses the intended target, lucky tevez in the right place to smash home.

Even the sun shines on a dogs arse!!

Guardian match report.

Sweet buttery Jesus, you know it's dire straits when people are trying to make a case for Benjani! 31 years old, 4 goals in two years, and a host of injury problems. Even on a free we'd be cheated!!

Amen.

As i mentioned earlier, you are right, here you can watch how he did it.

Hardly the best assists you will ever see.

Maybe in that game is the clue to how Sam would play him right side.

Bejani - past it and wages too expensive

Beattie - might do a job, but no better than what we have

Dindane - personally not that impressed

I have to agree with some of the other posts, that given the money we have available (not alot) we are better off spending it on the midfield to create the chances in the first place. Unless Big Sam plays a blinder and unearths a gem on the cheap we can't afford someone much better than Kalinic despite the fact its more raw talent at the moment

Thanks for such a reasoned and well constructed reply there sparky!

Well at least at 24, he's still got scope to improve. Used to be quite pacy, scored goals for Parma last year and came to england with a good reputation as one of the better young strikers in Serie A.

You don't play in Serie A at the age of 15 years old if you've not got talent.

Benjani never had it to lose it, at least this lad had it. You may want to consider he's played for Fiorentina, Juventus in an 8 year career and is still 24.

Much better punt than Banjoni, IMO. Play him on the right as we intended to play Dindane.

Bojinov for those who know nothing about him!

For me I'd be quite happy to stick with Roberts and Kalinic for the central roles, and sign someone who could play wide right and up front as well in a 2. If push come to shove and they both get injured (roberts is made of stern stuff) we have Samba.

Just because he drifted out wide doesn't mean he can play as a winger. Le chuck was saying he could play wide right which to me means he stays out there, working the full-back and looking to get crosses in as well as pushing into to support the central man when the ball is coming in from the left. He has to track the full back as well.

He is not capable of playing that role.

Bellamy and Robinho played that day as well so he was most certainly in the main in the middle as those two would have been the wingers, not Benjani.

as opposes to Boyd who's 5 years younger and scored a bucket load more and is available on a free and lower wages no doubt

Boyds been playing sunday league football...I'd take Benjani everytime...

OK, perhaps a bit harsh, but its no different to what you've done in reference to my country (sunday league football is bottom of the pyramid). If we are talking decades, I can bring up hundreds of successful Scots.

Scottish football may not be as good as the premeir league, but I'll wager not one person on here would turn down the chance to play professional football in the SPL.

errm...I thought that's what I was doing mate...compared to the Premier League the scots league is like sunday league football.....I can't remember any scot coming down and making an impact for decades...barry fergusons mate aswell...give me a break.

At 26yrs old Boyd has the opportunity to make something of himself in the best league in the world. Benjani at 32 however has made over 100 Premier league appearances and scored 23 goals. In my opinion if we had the chance to sign either of the two I'd go for Boyd every time.

Gordon (Sunderland)

Hutton (Tottenham/Sunderland)

Berra (Wolves)

G.Caldwell (Wigan)

Ferguson (Birmingham)

McFadden (Birmingham)

O'Connor (Birmingham)

McCarthy (Wigan) he's from the SPL

Not including Burnley's large number of Scots last year or WBA's/blackpool's next.

Plenty of sunday league players for you.

actually....yes.....I'd have Hutton only out of that lot and he's a full back.

You see...I see rovers as a bit better than wigan, big club, wba and blackpool...I see us more like villa, everton, fulham....

There's your problem. Not that any of them want Benjani, anyway.

I'd like to see Boyd given a chance if we could get him cheap.

There is no denying that the SPL is a poor standard of football though, so goals at that level are not a good indicator of quality.

I would put Rangers/Celtic at upper mid Championship level at best, and the other teams in the SPL league one standard...but if Andrews can do it in the Premiership, maybe there is hope for Boyd...

Perhaps I shouldn't have edited my previous post if you seriously think we are on a par with the likes of Villa & Everton and Fulham, as things stand.

Fulham maybe, but only on league position. I most certainly didn't see us knocking out the likes of Juve in the UEFA.

You only asked for players who played in the premiership and they all have and in the main play in their first 11.

Rangers and Celtic whilst they wouldn't set the premiership on fire would hold their own.

McCarthy at Wigan is a good one though.I'd take him...

Judging by all the strikers linked with the exception of Lewandovski, its clear to all and sundry that.... Sam Allardyce struggles big time when it comes to identifying a quality striker.

It looks like this area is a major weakness to the former centre half, with money seemingly used far to readily as an excuse for not being able to find a quality striker, which I just dont buy especially when the club already pay out millions of pounds a year on individual salaries.
