[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Recommended Posts

I'm with Philip on this one. The indications are that the squad will be stronger than next year, one way or the other. JW and Sam deserve boatloads of credit.

And if Sam wants him I'll trust Sam's judgement, regardless of the transfer fee involved.

Amen to that!! :brfc:

Its hard to cut through all the cr@p thats being written on here currently, but that just about sums things up for me.

Local lad, probably give that extra 15-20% for that reason, and worth a gamble.

So Sams gambling now mmmmmmmm.

Sums up the credibility of it all.

How well has Beattie done over the past few seasons just to back this gamble up and local lad rubbish!

Come on lads I am starting to get depressed!! So what do we want Big Sam to go to a club with more money? We would be left with a new manager and the same budget and possibly the same names of possible signings.. surely after the season we have had we should support the guy who is working within the constraints he has been given... lets give the guy a chance ... a load of clubs have still not made any move in the transfer market ... he is trying to get a bunch of his players together and it does take time especially when the club appears skint when compared to Wigan... Wolves etc!!Cant blame the man for that!!

No, Gav thinks he's worth a gamble. there was no quote from Sam.

Read the posts properly and stop making things up.

Using the word gamble suggests he and you are unsure on the player, am I right or wrong ?

If he uses the words 'worth a gamble', is he not implying that Sam Allardyce is taking a risk on this 'washed up journeymen'.

I ask should there be risk associated with this player.

Hes 32 years old, and not getting any younger, hardly played last season as he was deemed not good enough for one of our prem rivals, whilst earning around 30k plus a week, producing next to no goals for his labours.

I feel somebody is taking the mickey here and gauging how stupid we look from those who think Beattie will be a good signing. Beattie begins to follow a similar patern running almost parallel to that of the signing Robbie Fowler did a couple of seasons ago.

After all the hard work of last season in turning things around and then this, it just throws everything back in the supporters faces.

Giving that extra 15- 20% clearly indicates that James Beattie is quite easily capable or regular does underperform below the 100% required by a good 15-20% you say.

To which i'm inclined to agree with you, Beattie is a no-goer then :rover:

Put the shovel away JAL

That night, as we talked excitedly about shovels and precipitation, Aggy and I decided we had so much in common, that we would form a gang, dedicated to persuing our common interests. Aggy, with his long criminal record, was loathe to divulge his name, so we called ourselves... the Gavin Jalthwaite Gang..................

If we can get Beattie for under a million I'd take him. We're looking for "proven" on a beer budget, and it looks like Beattie or Benjani, so it's Beattie for me. I'm not wildly happy about it, but Lewandowski and Boselli look far beyond our price range.

If we're going to play lone striker, we've got to be starting Kalinic as often as we can. I've got faith in the lad coming good this season and pitching in with his fair share of goals. Roberts and/or Beattie is an OK option for switching to 4-4-2 and lumping it when we have to.

Key signing is looking increasingly like being the right midfield player to move us forward. Our back four is as strong as it's been in a very long time - we've got four strong options at centre back thanks to the emergence of Jones, and while Nelsen is on the slide I still rate him higher than some people on here..

I'd still like to see Pedro Mendes here, sitting next to N'Zonzi, who seemingly can only pass the ball sideways. The big lad wins it back, finds Pedro, and the attacking play starts there. He might be a bit too old for a long run with us, though.

According the Times Rich list The Walker Family are worth 250 million more than Morgan.

Uh you are missing the point Morgan is willing to spend the Walkers just want to wash their hands of the club.

Great news, but also a real shame.

He's a good player who could have made a real difference had he been able to stay fit. Unfortunately, he's made of glass and we've made a big loss on him.

a fair assessment. it baffles me when he gets slagged off on here, he's a quality player when fit (which unfortunately isn't often, though this isn't his fault - it's not like he doesn't look after his body like dunny). if this frees up some funds for transfers other than the 3 b's then great and i wish him well in the future.

We've done very well to get £2M for an injury prone average midfielder who's also not the youngest. Not made a huge loss on him really, if you look at the fact he's done precicely nothing in 2 years!

Guti is a better option than Pedro Mendes

Totally different players. Guti is an attacking midfielder and Mendes likes to sit deep.

Can't believe we're so lucky to actually get £2m for him. Too slow and technically lacking. One of the poorer midfielders of modern times.

Now, what's the chances of Galatasaray taking Keith as well?
