BRFC1995 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 agree with this... altho we will need a striker as if Kalinic gets injured (God forbid) we'll be screwed... because we'd miss his goals?????????????????? oh wait, screwed may be exagerating a touch

RoyRover Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Sam should be talking about signing a new centre mid. We're DYING for one. So right. Jamie O'Hara would do the job, although I see him at someone like Fulham or Everton next season. A creative midfielder and / or a winger with some pace and a striker is what we are crying out for.
Amo Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Players we should be looking to offload next season are as follows: Brown Chimbonda Khizanishvili Andrews Grella Reid Pedersen Roberts We could do without most of them, who have all seen better days. Unless we sell our best assets AGAIN next season (god forbid), we'll need to trim the squad down for both the transfer and wage budget. I admit Grella, in particular, will be difficult to shift (hiring an air ambulance is never cheap ) Here's hoping he has a good WC and someone takes on the rest of his contract.
joey_big_nose Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I would say we are in very decent shape generally. We should let four or five go (Pedersen, Reid, Zurab, one of Jacobsen/Chimbonda, Andrews) and concentrate on getting one top notch striker, one top notch central midfielder and a decent left back. We should also loan a fourth striker if possible. All do-able. Really excited at seeing how Kalinic, Hoilett, Olsson, NZonzi and Jones push on - we haven't had this much good youth in years.

I´d keep Andrews. He has been OK last few months. And besides today is always fit. Andrews just can´t play when there´s two in the middle. He needs to be of three in the middle. He has also done well as a right back few times and was brilliant against Bolton when he took Nelsen´s place in central defence. Brown is a tricky one. He has done well lately but we all know he will never be our number one. Depends a lot of how good is Bunn also.

One pacey right winger is more important than left back at the moment I think. Hoilett is promising but next season comes too soon. Garrido is the left back we should go for. N´Zogbia from Wigan plays both wings and would be great success at better club than Wigan.

Don't agree about right wing - with Hoilett, Emerton and Diouf we are well covered. We would have to sell one if we wanted someone else out there. I would back Hoilett to make more of an impact next year.

I don't want to dredge up the Andrews debate, but if we can get a couple million for him I'd bite their hand off. He's 29 years old, he offers nothing much than 'keeping fit'. For what it's worth, I don't think we will sell him, but Sam could be tempted if he needs the cash elsewhere. Also, his makeshift role against Bolton was far from brilliant. If I remember, Bolton did bugger all that day to get Kevin Davies into the game.
Hughesy Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 BUT people you all need to remember that it doesnt matter - as its all about who people actually want, and nobody has shown any interest in any of our players
Billy Castell Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Does anyone think the Southampton pair Lambert and Lallana can cut it in the Premiership? I know its the 2nd division, but they do look pretty good whenever I see them. Kris Boyd will either be a bargain or as frustrating as Benni McCarthy.
T4E Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 BUT people you all need to remember that it doesnt matter - as its all about who people actually want, and nobody has shown any interest in any of our players Oh my God, stop making a dick of yourself!

Kris Boyd will either be a bargain or as frustrating as Benni McCarthy. i think boyd would be a gamble. he looks a finisher...which is what we should kill for........but in a garbage league, if we gamble on someone from a cack league i'd still rather go for the austrian lad at worst we'd have some good height up front and a bit of pace if the goals did'nt flow whereas the cumbersum looking boyd may not offer a lot if the goals don't flow ala benni/ostenstad/ward/davies/grabbi/yorke/blake/kuqi/whoever i've blanked from my mind for they're utter shittness.
RoyRover Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Isnt Olsson our new winger with pace? Meant to say a right winger with pace.
roversfan99 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Hoillet hopefully but i agree hes still got alot too improve on
roversmum Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Oh my God, stop making a dick of yourself! He does have a point though, Tugs. It's all very well making a list of 'players to go' but unless they are out of contract you have to find someone who wants to buy them, you don't have much hope otherwise, as you know. Rather think personally, I might leave it to the Expert, he might just come up with one or two ideas . (Hey, Town not doing too badly. If they get into the Championship I might have to take another trip to the Turd ... )
Hughesy Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 2 strikers - 1 permanent, 1 loan maybe 1 midfielder - in the mould of Jamie O'Hara Thats all I want this summer.....think our defence is pretty much covered and our wings seems to be too (unless MGP goes)
Silencio Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 He does have a point though, Tugs. Read some of his posts from last week...

I really should remember the "dont argue with an idiot..." proverb when I read his posts. (Town going great guns, good chance of overhauling Leeds now. Aside from a home capitulation to the other BRFC their recent record is exceptional. Danny Wilson has done a superb job. Quite liking the idea of the Turd visit next season, if there's any seats left in the away end by then! )
LeChuck Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Goal-scoring winger, new striker, strong central midfielder. That'd do me nicely. Left back isn't an area of the team that immediately needs fixing, it isn't causing problems in games as whoever we pick out of Givet, Olsson and Chimbonda does a decent job. If we still had room in the budget after fixing the other areas then maybe we could get someone in, but someone would have to leave too.
The Rover of Finland Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Do we need a right winger or don´t we? If we want to play 4-4-2 we most certainly do. Emerton is slow and we all want to see him CM or on bench like at the moment. Hoilett is a young talent and does have pace. But he wants to play as a striker. His ball control and crossing isn´t yet good enough anyway. Diouf has done OK and can play both wings but he is very slow. So if we want to use 4 man midfield then wingers must have pace and must can crossing. We DO have to buy new right winger or stick with one striker like now.

I think she's joking with you mate Myself, I'd like to see us get rid of: Brown (300k to Bradford) Zurab (£1m QPR) Reid (free) Diouf (£1.45m to Galatasaray) Andrews (£40k to Perth Glory) Grella (£2.12m to Bari) Chimbonda (£843k to Marseille)
T4E Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I think she's joking with you mate Mums shouldn't joke. They're the only ones we should be able to take on face value!
