magicalmortensleftpeg Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Cant see it from any angle, but where has this even come from? Samba spoke to some bloke confirming he'd signed for Wham?? Nicko, trash this please.

Kelbo Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Some real quality strikes in that vid, no matter what the level of football, he certainly knows where the net is, never missed one attempt at goal. Has he been linked to other clubs?. Edit. kelbo. I was going to mention Shearer but ............ ????? I do agree at their ages he does have similarities. katlsen any idea on the fee it would take take?. Only downside is, he is very dependent on his right foot!!
Balwer Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Cannot see Samba going to any of the clubs in the bottom half. Realistically he'd only leave us for the big 7 teams I'd have thought.

Alot of clubs have been watching him, yesterday Celtic, West Bromwich, Anderlecht, Fulham, Everton, Hannover, Blackburn, Nottingham Forest, Heerenveen and Groeningen among others was in the stands.. He scored 3 goals last week for the U21's. His contract runs out at the end of next season... I really don't know the fee..but guessing about 15-20NKR soo around 1,5 - 2,0 GBP
67splitscreen Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Only downside is, he is very dependent on his right foot!! He seems very mobile though, not afraid to get stuck in, as he did for the interception and goal on 3 min. His play and goals came form all over the width of the field, as you sat very reminiscent of Shearer. I doubt he could play the lone striker role, not much evidence in the vid of that. Could probably play on the right in a three if needed. I really don't know the fee..but guessing about 15-20NKR soo around 1,5 - 2,0 GBP Personally, I'd be knocking on his front door at those sort of figures, if he does not cut it I doubt you would lose out financially.
bringdunnback Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Knees up mother brown and the Samba talk. Deluded prats, nicko please put this story to bed
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Deluded prats, nicko please put this story to bed It would be an incredibly strange move, so much that i just cannot see it happening.
Hammer it home Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 do you actualy think you will get £15 million for him. Thats shocking, i mean he is a good defender and i would like him at West Ham but i would pay no more than £6 million. I know for certain we will not be able to pay any near that figure so if that is the case, unless a player swap is involved, it would be no deal, but as i said yesterday we will have to wait and see.

He's an excellent defender and has proved himself repeatedly against the big teams. I cannot for the life of me see why he'd want to go to your club though, save the London location.

Thats shocking, i mean he is a good defender and i would like him at West Ham but i would pay no more than £6 million. I don't think we intend to sell him at all, and if so we will hold out for as much money as we can. £6m is not enough for him.
Billy Castell Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 If Samba is worth £6m, then Upson must be about £3-5m at the most, whilst Carlton Cole is around £5m. Honestly, why would he move to a team which nearly got relegated, and has a bunch of arrogant pornographers with no dress sense in charge? Oh, and there is the matter of £100m of debts that is a bid of an impediment to progress.
brian_gallagher85 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 When you look at the prices being quoted for some players these days, i.e. Milner at £30m, I'd say that we would have every chance of getting a good £12-15 million, yes. Also, there's more chance of that happening than there is of the West Ham fan who wrote this getting any sort of football related job Samba would make Upson look like Usain Bolt. If you lot gave us £2m+ for McDonalds then you'll have to rob RBS to afford Samba

Not sure £15 million is an accurate figure, though he is currently our best central defender and on a long term contract. He is big, strong, got decent pace and a true leader on the pitch. The only side of his game that needs development is some of his positional awareness, timing and to a lesser extent his heading on attacking plays. Qualities that do tend to improve as defenders get older and start to peak. I would find it hard to put a price on him but i can't see him going for less than £10 million. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Sam cashing in on him to spend money on other players, i would however be surprised if he was sold to West Ham. This rumor seems to have come out of the blue, perhaps there is some truth in it? There have been some serious shock moves in the past, this would be up there with some of the biggest if it happened from a Rovers perspective.
1864roverite Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Reading some the wham boys posts you would think they were world beaters. They cannot afford him that is clear. They could clearly offer a player cash exchange and we could actually benefit from it. Finally wham boys, if a goal scoring CB like Lescott is valued at £24m then you can hedge your best bets that we would want £15m PLUS.
tony gale's mic Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 There's a lot of people on there who think for some reason he's got one year left on his contract.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Hypothetical scenario for all you out there: "Sam is told that the wage budget is at its max, he has been told if he wants to bring in his prize target Guti in he has to get a big wage earner off the books, Sam and the board decide that Samba is that player. With the sale of the player money will be added to the wage cap to accommodate Guti's £60-70k per week + wages, plus a small amount left over will be given to Sam to bring in a striker." Would you be happy with this deal yes or no? My personal answer is no. Its not only the defensive qualities Samba brings being he is our best defender but he is also a leader on the pitch. Look how well he responded to being captain whilst Nelsen was out, there is no doubt in my mind he raised his game when given the responsibility. Look how well he also helped Jones settle into first team action, the guy has been a solid rock for Phil to play alongside. He is also only 26 years old and likely not yet at his peak, there is still room for some development there as well.

Thats shocking, i mean he is a good defender and i would like him at West Ham but i would pay no more than £6 million. No, I don't think that we will get £15m for Samba. None of us do. We don't think we'll sell him at all. We're just saying that he's one of our best players on a long term contract and we have no need to sell. Why should we do you lot a favour and accept a bid as small as £6m?

I wouldn't be happy to sell Samba at all, but least of all to a club like west Ham. I was seriously hoping they'd be relegated this season. Where are they getting their money from? They were already seriously in debt and the new owners did not bring that much cash to the table. They have to sell, hence the owners putting the entire squad apart from Parker up for sale. I know most footballers aren't blessed with great intelligence but surely anyone can see that a move to West Ham is not the wisest? Samba doesn't strike me as being stupid, hence i can't see why he'd want to go there. If he wants to leave surely a bigger club than West Ham would be interested.
Hammer it home Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Just to put it into perspective David Villa went to Barcelona for around £30 million. To say that Samba would command a fee of around £15 million because he is one of your best players and you do not have to sell him is ridculous in comparsion, he is definatly not worth half the value of Villa. As some of you have pointed out we have got big debts but Sullivan and Gold have both come out and said they are willing to push the boat out for certain players and maybe Samba is one of these. I personally think there are better defenders out there for the money, such as Davis at Villa, but with Upson a potential sale this summer we will have some money to play with to replace him. We were however linked with David Wheater as well this morning which sounds more within our price range and i can't see us getting both him and Samba. Anyway, happy 'transfer' hunting and enjoy the world cup.
John Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Sam cashing in on him to spend money on other players I don't think that would be the thinking behind any sale.
philipl Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 JW has said we don't need to sell and I don't see any reason not to believe him. Samba is on a long term contract but is probably the player most at risk of going amongst those we don't want to see leaving. That said, a West Ham bid is only a risk if West Ham are back in suicide mode offering Eggman wages again. And if the porn boys can afford those sorts of wages, they can afford a fee well north of £10m for him. If Ledley King or Dawson come back from South Africa injured I would be worried about Spuds making a move for Samba. Otherwise the big clubs are either skint or ok for central defenders or more likely to look elsewhere.
Mafioso Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Just to put it into perspective David Villa went to Barcelona for around £30 million. Valencia are in huge debt. 30mill was probably a cut price to get money in. While not comparing Rovers or Samba to Valencia or Villa, if JW words are true we are in no need to sell. If we were in huge debts then maybe Samba would go for 6 mill the way Villa went for 30. I think in todays market, and Samba's value to the team I think 15mill would be a fair ammount, if not a minimum.

Exiled in Toronto Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I don't think that would be the thinking behind any sale. Is not selling to be able to buy exactly the definition of being a trading club, which I believe is what we are? While I wouldn't be keen to see Samba go, the fact is that we have plenty of good CB's and no good midfielders or effective strikers, so if we had to sell to buy, then that would make the most sense to me.
The Rover of Finland Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Pretty pointless debate here. Big Chris wouldn´t leave us for wham. But if they need CD we still have Zurab. He is worth for less than £1M but it´s wham, so let´s ask for £3M. Nigel Quashie and Benni are wham type of buys. Idiots.
