[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Recommended Posts

The crucial part of any team building must start at the back, become solid there, Arsenal won the double with a solid back line and winning with 1 - 0s under George Graham

Our performances have improved and coincided with strong defensive displays which breeds confidence and allows the midfield to push up a little more and support the front man.

We are without question short of a top midfielder.

We are short of a top midfielder. A hole that would be filled very well by a Scott Parker type of player. I'd love to see him here but can't see it.

Parker is on 70k a week, plus is playing so well at the moment that Spurs or Villa or someone like that will come in for him. Out of our reach unfortunately.

In the LT Sam has warned fans not to expect many signings this summer.

That's probably for the best, we've had major upheaval for the last two seasons and that's never a good thing, settled teams usually perform the best.

I think we only need to add maybe two players to our starting eleven (central and wide midfield), plus some depth up front and that'll be it.

I do give Allardyce a lot of credit. It's great to see our form improve and the quality of football has as well, it's been good to watch.

He needs to address the problems we have in central midfield and if he does that we have the components for a very good squad capable of consistently finishing in the top half.

Our form certainly has improved under Sam. However the quality of football is absolutely dire. But it's a results business and we are getting results. The centre of midfield and the striking department are the two areas that need fixed the most.

After Sam's comments about transfers in the summer, I would still expect us to pick up more than two players. Just because we may not sign a lot of players, doesn't mean that we won't get rid of a lot of our team. There is a lot of deadwood at the club, that is draining it's resources. The players I would like to see moved on are Brown, Zurab, Diouf, Pedersen, Roberts, Andrews and Reid. However, I know that if we indeed only sign two players in the summer then, we will be left short in places. So I don't expect all these players to move, but they are just the ones who I don't see as either being able to contribute in the future or have done very little to justify staying and getting paid high wages.

From the LT

As long as they finish the season 13th or above, the position budgeted for by the board, Allardyce should have the estimated £2million received from West Ham for Benni McCarthy to spend in the transfer market.

A new TV deal will also boost the club’s finances, moving them back to ‘trading club status’ once again, but Allardyce is not expecting any wholesale changes.

He said: “We have slightly started targeting players but there will be little movement at our club in the summer, based on the financial situation.

“Our ins would be minimal. We are looking at one or two positions and that would be the sum total of our business in the summer months. It would be very quiet

I think its probably just talk from Sam. Irrelevent of the money debate Reid, Pedersen, Di Santo and Zurab are going to go. McCarthy has already gone and not been replaced. While the emergence of Jones, Olsson and Hoilett means that these problems aren't huge we will need to replenish the squad.

Plus I think Sam knows he can improve us at left back, central midfield and striker if the right players are available. I can see four coming in (two strikers, one CM, one left back) even if we ony have a few million to spend.

ps. One thing to infer from the comments is maybe Sam thinks Linganzi is ready to make an impact.

Looking at what he says on the official site about starting planning - he mentions playing 1 or 2 others now until the end.

Wouldnt suprise me to see Liganzi, Basturk (if he gets fit) and maybe Doran get more of a chance.

Cisse is a good shout. He might be too expensive though. Isn´t he friends with EHD? We don´t need major changes. Striker and right winger are minimum. We can also sale many players and need no replacement. Judge, Doran, Lingazi with first team and some PL minutes I hope. Fielding can be the third keeper. We need a goal scorer and someone who creates goals from wing. Peace of cake, or not.

Reid and Zurab don't need replacing though, we have more than enough bodies in their position. Zurab was surplus even before Jones emerged. Obviously Di Santo needs replacing, but McCarthy doesn't as we're going to be sticking with 4-5-1/4-3-3, three central strikers is adequate.

Pedersen would need replacing too, if he goes. That's only one or two bodies, depending on Pedersen. Hopefully a quality central midfielder is the final one. Defence is fine, we only need someone there if anybody leaves. Ideally one of the right backs would leave and a cheap left back would come in to cover Givet when he moves into the middle, but that's very low priority.

We need a settled summer this year, it counts for a hell of a lot.

I wonder if Sam will try to sign Di Santo up for another season? He tried to do the same for Villanueva, who hardly featured and made little impression despite his potential. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Di Santo here again, especially with money being tight.

Nicko has made it pretty clear that he expects him to go...I think something might of happened behind the scenes with him & therefore maybe a breakdown in the relationship with Di Santo!?

Might have. Have. HAVE HAVE HAVE HAVE HAVE HAVE.

Also, Nicko said a couple of posts later that there was absolutely nothing sinister about it. He's not going to be staying because he's only managed one goal in a season.

Ahhh the interesting ( -_- ) topic of having to use proper english, its a messagboard, get over it, why people feel the need to go on about the english language and correct people is just beyond me, I bet half of you are thick as ###### anyway.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm certainly hoping the news isnt about Pedersen getting a new deal cos (because - incase you didnt get it) he certainly doesnt deserve it!!! He's not even a shadow of his former self and it's been like this for years...time to move on.

Of, have, is, was.....it isnt an english lesson, it's an internet message board!

Yes but when the same error is pointed out several times and repeated as often as this one is it becomes so irritating as to be completely intolerable.

If Sam is still here next season (I keep hearing that he will step down in summer due to health issues?), and if he insists on fielding one striker, then the key positions are a proper attacking midfielder and right winger/forward, both with the legs to get forward and support the main striker. Olsson is obviously the long term answer on the left, is Hoilett good enough for the right? Who could we realistically get to play the 'behind-the-striker' role?

If Sam does leave, then let's get back to 4-4-2 please! ;)
