Amo Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I'm not overawed with Dindane. He's not a natural finisher but he does have a good turn of pace. I'd be willing to give him a chance, but £4m (approx.) sounds too steep.

RibbleValleyRover Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Not too happy with Dindane. 29 year old striker who was last regularly banging them in about 5 years ago. And even that was in the Belgian league. Since Lens are asking £4m from Portsmouth then I'm guessing it's going to at least cost us the Benni money. I'm not happy either, but with Sam doing a great job in keeping us up two seasons in a row i guess you have to let him make the decisions he wants when it comes to signings. Wondering where Dindane will play if he does come? I would be really surprised if we stop using the lone striker next season and i can't see his 5 foot 8 frame managing the long balls up to him. From what I’ve seen he doesn't look creative enough to play in the hole behind a striker as well. It’s going to be interesting to see what Sam has in mind.
yeti-dog Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I'd hope it might mean 4-4-2 next season.Niko and Dindane up front, but that's assuming we get a quality midfielder in I suppose!!

True and I've been behind Sam from the outset - still this is the first signing that he's made that I'm really struggling to see a way it could work.
bennyboyt11 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 The thing is, for all Sam's talk in the media about the difference in striking quality between us and the top sides, were 'we need players to put the ball in the back of the net' it makes Dindane seem even more strange. Unless he's hoping Kalinic will become a serious finisher next season, with Dindane doing some of the running.
tcj_jones Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Not happy with the idea of this signing. It's a big outlay for a player who's getting on, who looks total pony, and who will be sitting on the bench most weeks.
jim mk2 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Surely this is the wrong Portsmouth player - Picadillyaccionni (sp !) looks a far better proposition to judge from what I have seen on the goggle box.
RoyRover Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 £4 million for Dindane? We must effing mad! He is fast, but he couldn't hit a barn door. I wouldn't have minded if we had signed him on loan in January, but this amount of money, for a guy who is not a prolific goal scorer is ridiculous. Sam has said how we needed a striker, who would be able to score a lot more of the chances that we create. I'll be amazed, if he thinks Dindane is the answer, especially for £4 million!
roversfan99 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 It says £2m in the article, not too bad i guess
RibbleValleyRover Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 It says £2m in the article, not too bad i guess It all depends on what Sam's plans are for him. £2 million might not seem bad for a regular premier league player, but £2 million for a bench warmer on our 'small budget' doesn't seem like a good idea.
roversfan99 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Maybe he plans to sell Roberts for a similar fee and then buy a 3rd striker as expected? If Dindane is our main signing id be extremely disappointed but if not he would be a different option, i think his goal record is 7 in 20 which isn't too bad, and his pace could compliment Kalinic.
Hughesy Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 The Dindane move should be sorted very shortly. Lens will now sell at a decent price, Rovers are close to agreeing all of the bits and the player could then Was previously £4m, decent now £2m? Its simple lads - Dindane at say £2m or Beattie at the same price but 3 years older....Dindane has pace, something we sorely lack! I also think if we sign him he may let Roberts move on.
Silencio Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Thought and hoped we would do something more imaginitive than go for Dindane. Bit disappointing IMO...
roversnick Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Nicko, any chance of us going for belhadj? Quality player
Steve Moss Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 I would think Dindane's arrival means Di Santo WON'T be back next season, but that has been looking the way for a couple of months now. Despite the talk of 'little activity' I thin Dindane will be the first of three or four to arrive by the start of next season. The 3-4 arrivals is hopeful, though I am uncertain as to Dindane. If he only costs 2 million though, I can see the sense. He scores more than McCarthy, looks fit and fast, is younger and, all told, we'll have improved that position for no net cost. Would we save on the wage bill? Di Santo not moving from Chelsea is for the best, unless the price was ridiculously low. I hope we get a a fit, energetic, and skilled midfielder and right winger this summer. I think our performances would improve dramatically. If we have 3-4 in, and assuming that one of those is to replace McCarthy, that means we have at least 2-3 more out. Reid and MGP seem obvious. Who's the third?

philipl Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Dindane at £2m is what passes for good business in the Prem these days. One repeated criticism of Rovers has been lack of pace. Having Dindane, Hoilett and Olsson as options next season would certainly give a different dimension to opponents' preparations for facing the Rovers. Nicko's very comprehensive piece on the Dindane opportunity
47er Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I may be on my own but if Di Santo were available for 2M I would get him. Has pace and strength and a great first touch. No where near clinical enough in front of goal as we are all aware but he should have improved in that respect with time and confidence. Dindane, Kalinic and Di Santo isn't Shearer, Sutton and co but its probably as good as we can do. I hope we sell Roberts while we can.
beerwins Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Dindane has pace and he is unpredictable, pretty much the same as Olsson was for us on sunday, in our team that plays very rigid lines of formation its nice to be able to add an extra dimension if needed. Dindane will do for me as long as we are looking at a central midfielder too I will be happy.
mckenny16 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Perhaps Dindane could be used on the right wing? Did he not play as a wide man of a forward three for Portsmouth? With that in mind, could it be Defence Dindane-N'Zonzi-XXXX-Olssen --Dunn-- --Kalinic--
I_saw_Batty_score Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 £2m seems like reasonable business but more important is the wages and length of the contract Rovers are offering - Nicko any ideas. Presumeably Pompey were paying him silly money which Rovers won't be close to matching? I'd expect wages over a few years contract to dwarf the transfer fee.
Kelbo Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Perhaps Dindane could be used on the right wing? Did he not play as a wide man of a forward three for Portsmouth? With that in mind, could it be Defence Dindane-N'Zonzi-XXXX-Olssen --Dunn-- --Kalinic-- I thought of that too, pace down both flanks, but does he put a shift in? can he help the full backs, it has to be like that these days.

Don't expect him to be anywhere near the Premiership in a couple of years.

Wondered where the first in proportionately optimistic post on this transfer was going to come from. Even more 'simple' Hughesy Lad is that Beattie and Dindane aren't the only two strikers in world football within our budget.
