[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

I also think if we sign him he may let Roberts move on.

My thoughts exactly Hughesy.

I see Sam signing Dindane more as a replacement for Roberts who has not been happy for some time now, and has been far from a fans favourite.

The Dindane signing would not be a signing to solve all our problems but the start of the next phase of the rebuilding programme.

Also, this is only a tabloid rumour and nothing is signed and sealed yet. No disrespect to Nicko but anybody can link an average Pompey player to a club like ours. If the story is true and the deal is done then lets hope he gets through the remaining games this season for Pompey without injury and makes an impact for us next season.

At 2m I wont complain about us going for Dindane, seems like a good bit of business for a pacey player that we need, who has a pretty decent goalscoring record and will be boosted in his love for Rovers by us steppping in to save his season.

Only flaws that i can see is he is 29 and his shooting is occasionally wayward.. but he gets into enough decent positions with his pace to counter that (even if it does mean we will be tearing out hair out with frustration at times).

And I do like the potential of yet more players in before the new season (hell this one isnt even over and we are planning for next which is a great sign imo).

Taken from Wiki about Dindane:

- his first Premier League goal as part of a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic

- On 5 December 2009, he scored against Burnley

Havent seen Roberts do any of it and His price might double if he goes on to have a good world cup.

Wondered where the first in proportionately optimistic post on this transfer was going to come from.

Even more 'simple' Hughesy Lad is that Beattie and Dindane aren't the only two strikers in world football within our budget.

Ah here he is again - the puppet jumps out of his box once more!

For what its worth, I see Dindane as a decent signing, he is far better than Roberts & at £2m that isnt a bad deal!

As for others....please do tell me who we could sign NOW for £2m..........

I agree with those who think Roberts will leave if Dindane arrives.

Sam keeps going on about having a 'goal scorer' in games where we've struggled to hit the back of the net, and Dindane's record shows obviously isn't one of those.

I'd be happy to take Dindane for £2 million, he'd bring some much needed pace to the team. I would expect someone else to replace Di Santo and Benni though.

Dindane fee is close to £2 million which is less than it was a couple of months ago. Remember, he was going to be bought with the Benni money in January. I see him as a straight replacement for McCarthy in the squad. Decent business. You don't have anyone with pace among the current strikers.

Belhadj is a better player than he first looked but also pretty expensive, probably too much, and currently talking to CSKA Moscow.

Di Santo will go back to Chelsea, but I suspect he will be looking for a club by the end of August. He needs to play football. I think there is a very good player aiting to emerge with him, but one or two doubts have crept in of late. He is still very young and that type of striker gets better as he gets older.

What about a Roberts - Dindane straight swap?? Roberts will be a great performer for pompey in the championship!!!

Dindane isnt Pompeys to swap!

As for Di Santo - give him another 18 months and he will start to make a break-through, however we dont have the time or resources to carry players anymore!

Same old response Hughesy.

I just get bored sh**less with how you always aimlessly and naively follow the decisions the club make and never dare question anything.

Looking at Dindane's track record, it's crap. Totally crap...

One goal every three games in Belgium, one in four in France. As for you're predictable 'well who else can we get NOW for £2m crap;'

I'M NOT PAID TO SCOUT THE WORLD LOOKING FOR TALENT SO I DON'T BLOODY KNOW DO I? Muppet.

Also, WE DON'T NEED TO SIGN A STRIKER NOW DO WE??!! IT'S MARCH!!!!

Why we'd waste money now is beyond me, who knows what the summer will bring.

If the price is £2 million, then that isn't as bad. I suppose that will help to solve our lack of pace in the side. And if we were able to get a goal scorer, like Marko Pantellic on a free, then we would have some good options up top. Add in a central midfielder, a right winger and maybe a left back and I'll be happy!

Nicko, do you think Pedersen will sign a new deal

I suspect he won't, but it is probably only 60-40 that he goes.

If he had signed a pre-contract with one of his admirers - Fenerbahce or Palermo to name but two - I think we would have known by now.

He could do with letting everyone know soon, but as he is a free agent with a 'lively' agent then I fear this will drag on for some time.

In the meantime Rovers are looking around for potential left-sided midfielders to come in. That will be the REAL test of the budget. Lose a player for nothing and have to buy a replacement...hmmm.

Still not convinced on Dindane either. I'd suggest also as some others have that he will be brought here to play all across the front line with right wing being his most likely position because of his pace IMO..which wouldn't be too bad.

I would however fear for the safety of the crowd if we ever play with a front three of Roberts, Hoilett and Dindane.

Perhaps Dindane could be used on the right wing? Did he not play as a wide man of a forward three for Portsmouth? With that in mind, could it be

Defence

Dindane-N'Zonzi-XXXX-Olssen

--Dunn--

--Kalinic--

Instead of buying a 29 year-old striker and placing him on the wing, why don't we just buy a right winger?

£2 million for Dindane looks like a decent deal. Replacing an unhappy Benni with a (presumably) happy Dindane for the same money...wouldn't mind another striker plus a midfielder or two during the summer though.

Don't know enough of Dindane to make any comments, but the argument that he's OK as long as we are only paying £2m is weird. I mean, do we want him, or don't we? What's price got to do with it? Would it be OK for him to be crap, because he's only cost us a transfer fee of £2m - plus wages at around 20 grand a week for three or four years? Is it alright for anyone to be crap?

Allardyce wanted him in January though when there were again others we could probably have got. He obviously sees him as the kind of player he can work with. That's what matters in the end if you want to support the manager, as many on here keep saying we should. You may not like it; many of us may not like it, but if it's what the manager wants and has wanted for some time, then what's the point of talking the player down. what allardyce is getting is a player who already knows the premier League and was finding his feet just when they had to stop playing him. and after the delights of Portsmouth with their rubbish stadium etc this guy is going to think he's landed in Heaven when he sees our ground and training facilities and actually gets paid for working here too.

Surely the replacement will come in on far less though, I don't think we have to pay anyone near the £40-£50k Pedersen will be asking to get the same performances.

Is Ibricic still on the radar do you know? Seems the ideal replacement to me, if we can afford him.

Dinna Dinna Dinna Dinna Dinna Dinna Dinna Dinna DINDANE!

Absolutely sensational!

I agree with your post, but I presume we're spending money now in order to escape the possibility of a bidding war in the summer (why anybody would get into a bidding war with Dindane, I'm not too sure!).

I can see your point, but we tried to sign the lad in January but the deal didn't go through, it seems Sam has seen an opportunity to sign that same player for less money than he could 3months ago and snapped it up, if we are to believe the rumours that is.

5 goals in 17 apps for Pompey is better than Roberts and Di Santo put together.

Well if its improvement we are looking for 1 goal in every 3 games or 1 in every 4 come to that is massively better than our current lot can produce---TOGETHER!

Edit--now look at that Unlucky Morton! 2 great minds together! Even the timing is sweet!

If Morten goes it will cost the club. Unless you get a free transfer on less money the total outlay will be greater.

The wages needed to attract Premier League players these days are staggering.

Ibricic has not been doing so well lately, according to reports.
