unluckymorton Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Well if its improvement we are looking for 1 goal in every 3 games or 1 in every 4 come to that is massively better than our current lot can produce---TOGETHER! Edit--now look at that Unlucky Morton! 2 great minds together! Even the timing is sweet! Yeah, and fools seldom differ 47er!

If that's how you want to go about it then we could improve on J-Rob and Michael Jacksons return for less than £2m.

LeChuck Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 If Morten goes it will cost the club. Unless you get a free transfer on less money the total outlay will be greater. I wasn't meant to imply the cost would balance out, but reading my post again it did sound like that. We should be able to attract someone on around £30k (isn't that what Kalinic is on?), so over the course of a 4 year contract that would be £3 million less. Hopefully we can put some numbers to board that persuade them to give funds for a replacement anyway. I don't think it's that hard to find someone to replace the contribution Morten has made over the last two years, bar that run of games a couple of months back.
T4E Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I don't think it's that hard to find someone to replace the contribution Morten has made over the last two years, bar that run of games a couple of months back. Exactly - we basically have two options. Keep a player who we know is capable of abject mediocrity on a regular basis for £40k a week, or atleast attempt to find a player capable of better. Yes, the outlay may end up being greater than re-signing him, but the payoff will likely be greater too. He needs to go.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Well he's quick. Won't make any difference though if the service to our strikers doesn't improve. We need a right winger/attacking midfielder with PACE and a centre midfielder to play alongside N'Zonzi. Ideally I'd like a left back too, but as someone rightly pointed out (LeChuck perhaps?), we can make do over there with Givet, Chimbonda and Olsson (though he's my left winger/attacking mid) if funds are tight, which they undoubtedly will be. To be fair I think he's looked good in that central role. Admittedly not £40k a week good.
roversnick Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Belhadj is a better player than he first looked but also pretty expensive, probably too much, and currently talking to CSKA Moscow. thanks nicko, i really wish we could get belhadj, him and olsson alternating left back / left mid and bombing down the wing would be great

bennyboyt11 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Players I would bother looking at, although if they would want to come would be a different matter. Martin Petrov. Diego Godin. Marko Pantelic. T4E Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 To be fair I think he's looked good in that central role. Admittedly not £40k a week good. He's better, I wouldnt go as far as good. He still minces about losing challenges he should win and giving the ball away with his nonchalance.
DeadlyDirk Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Were currently in the top half of the premiership, if we want that to continue next season then we should be aiming higher than Dindane, I think Roberts has a much better overall game which tells you enough.
RoyRover Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Ibricic has not been doing so well lately, according to reports. I don't think it's that hard to find someone to replace the contribution Morten has made over the last two years, bar that run of games a couple of months back. Pedersen hasn't been playing well for years! I've seen Ibricic play a few times and he is a very talented player. I would be delighted if we signed him. LeChuck and B4E hit the nail on the head, Pedersen has been woeful for the past three or four seasons. He had a good run of form (compared to his dire form of previous years) a few months back and people were screaming for him to be re-signed. That form has since dried up and he is back to inconspicuous, average best. We should take the chance of replacing him with someone who can do better. The list of Bosmans is very interesting and there are a number of quality players on there, that we should either realistically be interested in and would realistically have a chance of signing. I've highlighted the ones that I think we should be looking at in the summer. Martin Petrov. Marko Pantelic. Simon Vukcevic. Paolo Guerrero. Fabio Simplicio. Hamit Altintop. Fabio Aurelio. Diego Costa. Cacau. Sidney Govou. Kalu Uche. Eyong Enoh. Mario Santana. Andriy Nesmachniy. Makoto Hasebe. Paulo Ibanez. Ashkan Dejagah. Kim Kallstrom. Mouhamadou Dabo.
Ozz Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Are you sure all those names are real? The majority of them just look like random anagrams. Hamit Altintop? Kalu Uche? Eyong Enoh.?
Torgeir Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Don't know enough of Dindane to make any comments, but the argument that he's OK as long as we are only paying £2m is weird. I mean, do we want him, or don't we? What's price got to do with it? Would it be OK for him to be crap, because he's only cost us a transfer fee of £2m - plus wages at around 20 grand a week for three or four years? Is it alright for anyone to be crap? In the current economical climate price has a lot to do with it. We're not shopping from the top shelf, and with limited resources it's important to get value for money - something we've been able to for a good while now (with a few exceptions). It's our subjective valuation of a player, just like we value most other things in life by placing a price tag on it.

Ozz Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Ford Tippex ? Are you questioning the authenticity of Altintop cos he played last night for Bayern? The problem there is that I watched American History X again when United were on. A much more enjoyable proposition initially, but imagine my dismay when I discovered they lost in the last minute of added time.

Serves you right - you should always watch teams like United just so you can laugh when they fail. Unfortunately they'll probably still get through

Bayern Munich Turkish Utility Player(played against Man Utd last night). Almeria' Nigerian Attacking Midfielder/Striker. Cameroonian Ajax defensive middie. Yes i play way too much FM.
den Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 In the current economical climate price has a lot to do with it. It's our subjective valuation of a player, just like we value most other things in life by placing a price tag on it. You don't need to tell me that it's always important to get value for money. It's the "we'll have him if he's below £2m" quotes that get me. First off, that totally ignores the total package cost and secondly, it's no way to conduct transfer deals.
joey_big_nose Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I suspect he won't, but it is probably only 60-40 that he goes. If he had signed a pre-contract with one of his admirers - Fenerbahce or Palermo to name but two - I think we would have known by now. He could do with letting everyone know soon, but as he is a free agent with a 'lively' agent then I fear this will drag on for some time. In the meantime Rovers are looking around for potential left-sided midfielders to come in. That will be the REAL test of the budget. Lose a player for nothing and have to buy a replacement...hmmm. I am suprised by this - do we need a left sided player? Pedersen has not played there in ages, Olsson is coming through excellently and Diouf's best position is left hand side. I would say it is not much of a priority for us. I am largely pleased with signing Dindane. Decent for £2m. I would say we need another striker though once Di Santo goes back - I imagine Sam will be in the market for a target man.
Hughesy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I just get bored sh**less with how you always aimlessly and naively follow the decisions the club make and never dare question anything. Looking at Dindane's track record, it's crap. Totally crap... I'M NOT PAID TO SCOUT THE WORLD LOOKING FOR TALENT SO I DON'T BLOODY KNOW DO I? Muppet. Also, WE DON'T NEED TO SIGN A STRIKER NOW DO WE??!! IT'S MARCH!!!! Why we'd waste money now is beyond me, who knows what the summer will bring. Sign him now - the price will be lower & we wont have as much competition for signatures, pushing up prices! If he has a good world cup, his price would only increase again! You seem to know everything else....well you think you do anyway, so im shocked you dont have a list of potential signings for £2m!!! MUPPET! Lets look at his most recent & relevant stats - 19 games (subbed in 6), 7 goals at a struggling Pompey Compare that with: Jason Roberts - 26 games (subbed in 8), on as a sub (14) - 4 goals at a team sat 10th Franco Di Santo - 16 games (subbed in 13), on as a sub (6) - 1 goal at a team sat 10th I could go on.....but your just a waste of time!
Hughesy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 You're* I could have said that, or I could have said that!
Inta Beaver Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I'd like us to sign Sidwell from Villa in the summer, i think he would add alot to our midfield, him and Nzonzi would pair very well. If we could afford him that is.
