S15 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Sign him now - the price will be lower & we wont have as much competition for signatures, pushing up prices! If he has a good world cup, his price would only increase again! You seem to know everything else....well you think you do anyway, so im shocked you dont have a list of potential signings for £2m!!! MUPPET! Lets look at his most recent & relevant stats - 19 games (subbed in 6), 7 goals at a struggling Pompey Compare that with: Jason Roberts - 26 games (subbed in 8), on as a sub (14) - 4 goals at a team sat 10th Franco Di Santo - 16 games (subbed in 13), on as a sub (6) - 1 goal at a team sat 10th I could go on.....but your just a waste of time! Yawn. Hughesy Lad, a 29 year old who has never been prolific is not what we need. Sugar coat your statistics all you want, but he isn't going to fire us to the next level.

Kelbo Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 A quick lad has plenty of positives in that opponents have to sit deeper, they cant allow him too much grass behind the defence, this in turn leaves more space in midfield, so I would expect more goals from those areas, now if he had given us 7 goals this season, plus 5 or six extra from others which I think genuine pace will create, how many more points would we have had? Couple this to Olssen, that means they have to be careful of 2 players with genuine pace and howeve good you are pace is difficult to handle, the Villa striker Agbonlahor, playing in a top side, rated very highly, how many goals has he got? would be interesting to know? but he is very effective and opponents are wary of him at all times. Just checked, he has 11 prem goals and one cup goal, how much will he valued at? £8 million and upwards I would think at least.

Sugar coat your statistics all you want, but he isn't going to fire us to the next level. He is a step up from Roberts & Di Santo (Currently) and thats the main thing for a club our size....you have to take small steps to progress if you have the resources we have.

Kelbo Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Why didn't you include Kalanic? Kalinic looks like he will score, has been really unlucky at times this season, can strike a ball, hold it up, turn a man, can head and has a decent touch too, he will come good I am sure of that.
Sparky Marky Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 cos Kalinic is the future man...I've seen it.

Hughesy used the stats to show Dindane is a better striker than DiSanto and Roberts. However, apparently the same stats aren't used when he compares Dindane with Kalanic. That's because he doesn't really think the stats prove anything at all really?

I would love us to sign a prolific striker there are soo many of them out there.. how about bellamy, Rodallega, Cameron Jerome, Carlton Cole, Nugent, Fletcher, Crouch, Klasnic, Kenwyne jones or maybe doyle.. oh yeah they have lower goals to games ratios.. and err cost allot more anyways.
gumboots Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I could have said that, or I could have said that! By George he's got it! I think he's got it!

All the players you've named weren't prolific and weren't expensive once upon a time. They also were't 29 with no scope to reach the levels they have/are doing.
LeChuck Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 At 5'8 tall, Dindane obviously isn't being brought in to be the lone striker, and Dunn is an almost certain starter behind the front man if he's fit...which leaves the wide positions. His goal scoring record isn't as much of an issue out there, and he is extremely quick and good on the ball. If he can get 7-10 goals a season from a wide area he'd be a bargain.
Eddie Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Shouldn't Albin be the man we go for if we are losing MGP on a free? Left winger, bit of pace and I don't think he's getting any major attention from huge clubs.

You suggested a player rather than saying there are loads out there you could name but won't? Is there any truth in the rumour that AC Milan are looking at Kevin gameiro, do you think? Big blow for Lorient if he goes.
Hughesy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Hughesy used the stats to show Dindane is a better striker than DiSanto and Roberts. However, apparently the same stats aren't used when he compares Dindane with Kalanic. That's because he doesn't really think the stats prove anything at all really? I didnt compare Kalinic because he is much younger and hasnt really been given long enough time to prove himself (probably fair with Di Santo too - based on that), he has also showed plenty of promising sides to his game & he has time on his side.....however the likes of Roberts have been around for ages, yet still doesnt have the same record as Dindane.
S15 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Roberts has spent his career playing at a similar level to Dindane and has scored more goals.
imy9 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Roberts has spent his career playing at a similar level to Dindane and has scored more goals. Dindane has bags of pace and nearly 1 in 3 for the Ivory Coast and 5 in 17 for a struggling Portsmouth side shows that potentially he could score goals, I would liken him to Bellamy as his record was quite poor before we signed him. Maybe give the lad a chance hey?
LeChuck Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Roberts has spent his career playing at a similar level to Dindane and has scored more goals. Genuine question 'to...where do you think Sam has Dindane pencilled in to play, bearing in mind the formation he prefers? Edit: something just occurred to me. Isn't Dindane very similar in style to Ghilas, who we nearly bought last summer?

Maybe give the lad a chance hey? That would be the Bellamy who was possibly the second best player behind Shearer, in a very good Newcastle team managed by Bobby Robson?

Michael Ciani and Fabrice Abriel last season. Christian Gourcuff set to leave at the end of this year. If they lose their star striker Gameiro as well, they are in trouble. But Lorient always have the ability to find new players, you eventually go on to big and better things.

New owner might have an impact - seems to have done so far. Hoping to get to the match next weekend if there are tickets left. there usually are but it's rennes i think so as a local derby there might be less chance
S15 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Genuine question 'to...where do you think Sam has Dindane pencilled in to play, bearing in mind the formation he prefers? Edit: something just occurred to me. Isn't Dindane very similar in style to Ghilas, who we nearly bought last summer? This isn't just about his lack of goals, I've seen him play quite a few times for club and country and never have I thought 'he's good.' We weren't fighting off clubs to sign him in January, why on earth we feel the need to sign him now is beyond me.
gumboots Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 This isn't just about his lack of goals, I've seen him play quite a few times for club and country and never have I thought 'he's good.' We weren't fighting off clubs to sign him in January, why on earth we feel the need to sign him now is beyond me. Because the manager wanted him then and still wants him now. We may not know what our manager sees in him, but then we don't know what his plans are for next season. We don't know who he wants to get rid of, who he wants to bring in, how he wants to set his team up etc. He presumably does and at our club, provided we can afford it, he gets what he wants.
Roberto Policano Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Dindane for Anderlecht and Lens always played as the farthest man forward either in a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1,he can play with his back to goal,on the shoulder of the last man,or play in the channels and pull central defenders out wide. He did on very rare occasions play left or right wing to cover injuries when at Lens, but not at Anderlecht. He has never once in his career played as an attacking midfielder in a central roll. So if he's coming into the club to play anything other than an out and out striker the signing does not make sense. Surely Roberts will leave?.
chaddyrovers Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Cacau is leaving stuttgart at the end of the season on a free transfer!!! worth a look at!! http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Cacau-to-leave-Stuttgart-article375789.html I'd like us to sign Sidwell from Villa in the summer, i think he would add alot to our midfield, him and Nzonzi would pair very well. If we could afford him that is. Would be a great signing. a goalscoring midfield player!!!
S15 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Because the manager wanted him then and still wants him now. Some signings we will accept immediately as great business by the manager, some we will question the manager until he proves us wrong. If Wenger/Ferguson/Mourinho can make mistakes in the market, so can Allardyce, however good a manager he is.
