There is definitely interest in signing TWO new strikers.

DINDANE...there seems to be a question mark with his medical and that is causing some discussion about the size of the fee and how it should be paid...not dead yet, but not done either...Lens are reluctant to drop his price too much, so this may have a bit of negotiating to happen before it is finalised.

LEWANDOWSKI...the Polish guy ticks the boxes and has been watched on a regular basis, but the word is he is too dear at £6 million and 'bigger clubs' may be keen...so...

MAURO BOSELLI...a very good Argentinian striker is now on the radar...there are a couple of scouts going over in the hope of watching him later this week...good player, pretty expensive...but there seems to be budget for a top striker which can only be good news.

It's going to be lively this summer.

I don't get it. We have £6 million to spend on Boselli but not on Lewandowski? I hope it's true we have a little bit to spend again this year, good strikers become ordinary ones without proper service from midfield though.

Sign Pantelic from Ajax and Sanchez from Udinese and we're set :P

Thanks for the update, Nicko.

with the extra tv money that wasn`t expected this summer we could have anything upto 15m to spend this summer BEFORE sales. if we end up with an enforced sale too such as nzonzi or samba(possible even if not wanted), then sam will have a very decent transfer kitty to play with(for a manager of rovers).

£15m?? ha ha where do you get that from?

Didnt JW quote the new TV deal ages ago saying how it would fix that £5m hole in the wages that we were supposed to cut last summer?

This is Rovers you’re talking about here, there's no chance we will spend £15 million. I'll be amazed if we have more than £6 million to spend before any player sales.

The issue as usual is working with a limited budget and having to spend it on the right areas. We definitely need a striker or two, but at the same time we need a creative player to come in. I just don't buy into Sam's belief that a goalscorer is going to solve all our problems and push us to the next level, if you had a Bent or a Defoe in this team they would struggle to score goals with the quality of service on offer.

What we are really crying out for is a Bentley, someone who can create something out of nothing, put a great ball into the box etc.

So just to clarify what I am saying is we need a striker, but at the same time it’s pointless to spend our entire budget on one if we don't get someone in to create chances.

Wonder if this is one that the board is willing to spend for to get 2-3 years of good play and then sell at a profit (and I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing).

Boselli would be okay. However, the midfield is the real problem, and why oh why is that being over looked yet again. Would like somebody like Pedro Mendes in there, or a Huddlestone type player. If we had 8mill for Dindane and Boselli, then i would have gone for Dindane and Piquionne instead. Use the extra money on a midfielder. Its just crazy, unless Sam will be given more money, spending close on 10mill on 2 strikers is beyond madness.

That is the model that is implicit in saying we are a trading club.

In any case Dindane and Piquionne are hardly prolific. I think it all depends on what kind of system he wants to play. Huddlestone has less fuel on the tank than Dunn, so proper midfield enforcer would be needed as well. N'Zonzi isn't quite there yet and Vincenzosteoperosis Grella is never fit. I don't think we'll have the money to fill all the gaps in holes in our team, we haven't for a while.

As I understand it, the club has budgeted to finish 13th and if we do ( which appears highly likely) the manager will be able to spend the Benni money+ the placement money on new players. Wouldn't that give us around 7.6M for 13th and 10M for 10th? Plus any money from sales. Isn't that the biggest transfer budget any manager of ours has had for a while? Still small change for the big clubs but should improve our squad.
