I reckon it's a myth that we don't create chances. We create plenty of chances.

I agree

We have missed plenty of 1 on 1's this season & on most games we hav had several good opportunites to score!

Franco Di Santo has been sulking since he was left out of the side. He felt he should be at Rovers to play. If he wanted to be in the reserves he could have stayed at Chelsea.

So he won't be staying...but he doesn't want to go back to Chelsea's stiffs either now.

Interesting one for someone in the summer.

To be fair to the lad, he's got a point

Nicko, any idea if we are still looking at the Egyptian players, Shikabala and Muhammadi(sp)?

One thing is sure the biggest amount of money spent in the next window is on a goalscorer.

Absolutely, Allardyce has said thet if we had been able to convert chances this year we would have had at least another 9 or 10 points!!

works hard, but apart from the goal against Burnley :brfcsmilie: he hasnt impressed me tbh. Kalinic, Dindane, Boselli and maybe 1 other striker, and we are good to go up front. Add a bit of a spicy midfielder, and we will be in a strong position to challenge for Europa league

Nicko- How do you see the strikers fitting in?

What is the need for Kalinic, Dindane, Roberts and one other IF we are going to play one up front like this season?

Have the trustees decided to loosen the purse strings a little to fund the strikers?

Boselli would cost around £6 million, slightly more if there is an auction. His wages are not silly either.

What about his work permit? 24 year-old with two caps, would probably have to appeal an initial rejection, right?

Can't be too flippant when it comes to our transfers, it is so difficult for us to attract quality plus if they are that good, other clubs will be in for them too - as well, for example, having to replace MGP (should he leave) would be a right pain for the manager.

On Boselli...

Italian passport [i believe].

The fee - in stages - would not need any 'Trustee' help.

The wages are not scary.

Only downside...I hear this morning that he is a doubt for the game tomorrow.

Hope the Rovers scouting party have not wasted a trip.

Hasn't Dindane played wide in a front three this season for Pompey (with Piquionne central)? I would hope that is his role, we need more pace and goal threat in those wide areas.

What kind of player is Boselli? Given that he's under 6ft, I would be surprised if Sam sees him as a central striker in a 4-3-3, could he possibly play out wide or behind a target man?

I think having versatility in our front players is important, we've been a restricted this season because none of Kalinic, Roberts or Di Santo can really play anywhere other than as a central striker.

Erm but neither score that often...

Dindane has a record of 3 games per goal ratio over his career.

Cacau has a record of 3.37 games per goal ratio over his career.

1 goal in 3 games. In what parallel universe is that bad? That would work out at 16 goals over a league season.

That would suit us just fine! Who do you think we should be buying? Darren Bent? Jermaine Defoe? Those are the kind of strikers we can expect better than a goal in 3 games. Doubt even the likes of them would be getting much more than 1 goal in 3 games in out side.

£75K a week! We are in a recession, those are crazy figures! Is he worth twice Dindane who wants £35K a week? I would rather we bought Dindane and use the £35K on signing a quality central midfield player in Ledley.

What 35k? Just because this fella wants 75k doesn't mean we have it! It doesn't mean we can spread it on two other players instead...

What you talking about FLB we create loads of chances per game and don't need to bring in any creative players!

Nicko - you heard anything about MGP's contract?

Or any outgoings??

The usual clubs are still sniffing round MGP - Fenerbahce, Olympiacos, Palermo - but nobody has done a deal with him.

Sounds like this one is far from settled.

No word on outgoings, but I can't imagine Pascal Chimbonda is happy to be in the ressies.

Because I can only judge a player when he is wearing blue and white? Can't judge him having seen him probably 5 times this season for Portsmouth (matches in full) and a good 30-40 times playing in France?

Hang on? Since when did we start respecting your judgment of a footballer?

Might as well offload him then. Jacobsen looked decent before the birth of his child and injury. Salgado can play there as long as there isn't a pacey winger against him and Emerton played some of his best football in a Blackburn shirt at that position. No need to buy another right back really and the money from his sale could be spent elsewhere.

Fairly encouraging that we can sign a £6m striker next season without selling a £17m one.

Let's hope Sam doesn't put all our eggs in one basket, because we're STILL crying out a decent midfielder.

Di Santo will be at QPR or somewhere similar on loan next season. I still think he'll be a player, eventually.

i agree with the ones on here that say the need for `a creative midfielder` is a myth. rovers have created lots of clear cut chances this season that have gone begging due to a poor conversation rate. sam is correct in that better finishers are what is needed up top. the confusion for me though is that kalinic is not linked with being sold as he is a culprit along with di santo. when you get your head away from wanting him to do well and overblowing his contribution so far, what has he really done bar scoring a few simple tap ins?

before anyone starts, roberts(the usual scapegoat from many) isn`t at the club as an out and out finisher as those 2 players are, he is a targetman that creates for others with his physiche and is an excellent option for turning a game around from the bench. there`s nobody better at the club in terms of that. also the goals he HAS scored were a lot harder chances to convert than the ones niko took.

if you want my opinion(probably not), i`d sell kalinic and sign both boselli and the polish kid then start again.

The trouble with Roberts is that the few goals he scores are harder than the ones he misses! I've not seen so many 1 on 1's missed as I have this season. Di Santo and Roberts are in Dickov's league in that regard. Up-front was identified as the problem last year and the manager spent all summer and all our cash in solving it. Yet here we go again. I can't help thinking that the reason we play 4-5-1 so much is because we daren't risk a 4 man mid-field with the talent we have available. So while we will need 2 strikers next season, we won't make enough progress till we fix central mid-field. Given the pitiful amount of money apparently constituting the transfer kitty, I fail to see how this is going to be done, unless Lingghazi does an N'Zonzi.

 , i know our strikers dont talk much, but thats just brilliant ;)

on the Kalinic misses, the lad just started in a new league. If you look at him now, he has started to feel more confident, and it is showing in his game now. Roberts, on the other hand has been in this league for so long now, and he still struggles to score goals. I dont care if he is not an out an out finisher, call him whatever you may, but if you think that constantly missing 1 on 1's is difficult, then i think you have your eys screwed on the back of your neck

Some clips of Mauro Boselli goals

Looks a good finisher.

We dont know the budget Big Sam has got. We need 2 strikers, 1 midfielder player and a replacement if Pedersen goes.

We been linked with Gary O'Neil of boro. Good player but not playing cause of a Money Matters!!!

O'Neil is a very good midfielder, certainly better than what we have. If Middlesbrough can be held over a barrel due to his situation then we could potentially get a bargain.

My only concern is that he's had injury problems, the last thing we need is another injury prone midfielder.
