philipl Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 O Hara is extremely unlikely for us and we will have a tough battle to get Ledley over Stoke City. Ledley has looked class the few times I have see him. I suppose we need Abramovich to get interested in mega signings at Chelsea again for there to be any hope of getting Anelka.

nicko Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 O'HARA...is definitely £5 million and maybe more if there is an auction...West Ham? Surely not...Newcastle will struggle...Wolves wanted him in the last window but will go elsewhere first. LEDLEY...just back from injury...ok...but you can do better. MGP...still talking about money with Rovers, so it sounds like he doesn't fancy his 'foreign' options. DINDANE...I believe a low bid - even lower than £2 million - will go in shortly. All the best with that one. BOSELLI...not fit for another two-three weeks...but Rovers DID got to Argentina to see the game he didn't play in...ouch.

Are we going to give Phil Jones a longer contract?
nicko Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Thanks Nicko, what's your gut feeling on Morten? Are we going to give Phil Jones a longer contract? You might end up keeping Morten for all the wrong reasons - the club could be keeping him as it is cheaper than replacing him while the player could re-sign because he cannot find anything better. Jones will no doubt get a proper deal sometime soon. Major discovery.
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Can’t believe we have offered him another deal and I assume its probably a higher one than the previous one offered? After several dire performances it wouldn't surprise me if clubs have decided to look elsewhere which means he will sign the deal and we are stuck with him for another 3-4 years with no chance of selling him. Sam is making a big mistake.
Backroom Tom Posted April 14, 2010 Backroom Posted April 14, 2010 We were in absolutely desperate need of a right winger after Emerton's long term injury last January, so buying Diouf made sense. Ben Haim makes no sense at all, I can't believe there is an ounce of truth in it. Only way it could begin to make sense to me is if we can ship out Chimbonda for a similar fee. I'd quite happily swap Ben Haim for him (indirectly of course). I thought emo got injured on dioufs debut? It was somebody debut anyway i remember that oh and I hope peds signs I'm one of the few that rate him

It was somebody debut anyway i remember that oh and I hope peds signs I'm one of the few that rate him I really like Pedders as well. He is loyal to the club, never says a bad thing about it, good personality, well liked by the rest of the team, never injured, can provide a moment of brilliance (okay rarely does it anymore) and above all else noone to replace him with

Parker in particular is very similar to O'hara, much older of course. What do you reckon O'Hara was given in his last contract 20-25k a week, I never know how to read the goings on at WHL.

Sam is making a big mistake. I think Sam's just being lazy. Pedersen peaked years ago and has since contributed a string of mundane performances. His set-pieces are poor, but he takes so many of them he can't lose, and now has the added value that he can harmlessly throw the ball 35 yards. Let Pedersen go and FINALLY invest our money into a creative midfielder. Keeping him here is not a forward move.
LeChuck Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 the club could be keeping him as it is cheaper than replacing him Surely Ledley would available on lower wages than Pedersen? I thought emo got injured on dioufs debut? It was somebody debut anyway i remember that You're right, it did happen like that, I thought Emerton got injured first. I think we'd all wanted a right winger since Bentley left anyway, and Diouf was very good in that first six months. Now he's gone a bit crud though.

He balanced the side and added bite to our relegation scrap. That loss of pace has really taken a lot out of his game. Sure, he's good at retaining possession, but he mostly brings our play to a halt. He's another one like Pedersen who has seen better days and would be no great loss.
Iceman Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Surely Ledley would available on lower wages than Pedersen? Ledley is not on big wages at Cardiff, and im not sure why Nicko is indicating we can do better. imo, Ledley on a free is a match made in heaven, as the budget for next season will be small. The same with Dindane, if we can get him for 2mill or less then Sam has money to spend on a big name player, or just on a decent enough striker like Boselli or even Lewandowski.

Don't always take Nicko at face value. Di Santo was the next Batistuta, remember?
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I think Ledley would be a good signing, a versatile player who can play as a winger, central midfielder and has played at left back at times for Wales. The only concern would be that he had a hip injury and had to have surgery on it. By the looks of it he can go abroad for free but if he were to go to Rovers or Stoke there would be a compensation tribunal.

West Ham won't pay the big money for O'Hara. It's a daft story. The lad is worth £3 million at best, Spurs will want more as they always do...so this one will run and run. I would be amazed if he went to West Ham for so many reasons. The clubs hate each other as well. Don't always take Nicko at face value. Di Santo was the next Batistuta, remember? If you can find where I said Di Santo was the next Batistuta I would take that crack seriously. Di Santo was a very shrewd signing. But like every other Rovers striker he got worn down by the lack of chances provided and the demands of stretching your neck for 90 minutes. Kalinic, Roberts and even McCarthy had little spells in the side before finding that it is very tough to play in that solo striker role. He will find a good club soon enough and prove to be a Premier League player.
Hughesy Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 What about Zigic Nicko? We usually get linked.....he is the perfect target man & he hasnt played much this season again!
nicko Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 What about Zigic Nicko? We usually get linked.....he is the perfect target man & he hasnt played much this season again! I have not heard that one lately. A narrow escape that he didn't come...he's just a big stump.
MarkBRFC71 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 oh and I hope peds signs I'm one of the few that rate him Did you see him on Sunday? Lazy and completely uncommitted - when he had the ball he got rid as early as possible in any direction, he showed about as much movement as Per Frandsen, and he wimped out of every tackle. We don't need players with that attitude at Rovers.
brian_gallagher85 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 He will find a good club soon enough and prove to be a Premier League player. I'm sorry but not as a striker he won't, he bottles it every time he gets into the box. For me he could be converted into a very good creative CM. I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn up down the road some time next season.

I'd prefer to let him go, not replace him at all and keep the 6M. He was the worst Rovers player on Sunday, apart perhaps from Emo whom I used to really rate. Can't believe we are chucking big money like that around on someone who consistently bottles it.

Have been saying this for some time, reckon this lad will definitely come good, he reminded me a lot of Roque, but with pace, in the earlier part of the season... I think its a real shame he's not been given a proper go, as he was playing at a time when the whole team was struggling... As previously stated would love to see him and Kalinic together? Although highly unlikely I know!
