Wigan and Everton certainly don't play 4-4-2.

Aston Villa started with 4 wingers thorugh the midfield, Man City play 4-3-3, Fulham play with Gera in behind in 4-4-1-1, Everton play with Arteta or Cahill in behind Saha 4-4-1-1

The only club of those is Tottenham and they have possible the best rotation of strikers in the league.

We're linked with Joe Ledley: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6099790,00.html

And with Gary Hooper: http://www.tribalfootball.com/scunthorpe-boss-adkins-confident-keeping-blackburn-target-hooper-782461

The Tribal link's relaibility I would doubt, as I wasn't able to find the report on Sky Sports.

Both would be good choices, in my opinion. They're better than decent prospects and would satisfy the home grown rule.

Lancashire telegraph reports that the polish lad wants to come to rovers, however rovers can't mmeet the valuation of 5 million. Genoa and Dortmund have and he is likely to move to one of them by the end of the week.

Sometimes I hate football. Genoa can meet the valuation, but we can't? We can probably pay it over several years?

We are a very very well-run club, but when things like this happens you think that the trustees have played their part.

Especially disappointing, if true. We have the Benni money and were said to have the money to bid for Adam Johnson in January...

We play in the richest league in the world, we are run very sensibly, we have sold our best players for vast amounts of money for the past couple of seasons, we were due the Benni McCarthy money, as well as any further money generated by our final league position and we still are unable to afford a promising £5 million striker? What a total joke.

Is everybody that friggin' stupid, really?

The player has stated he wants to sign for us, so we are playing hardball over the price, knowing our position of power?

It's called NEGOTIATING.

Jesus wept.

sorry mellison, but that is a bit silly. If we trying to bring the price down, that 2 other clubs are willing to meet, then we are looking a bit silly. Its not like its Madrid or Milan, its Dortmund and Genoa that we are competing with. This is a promising young striker, for 5 mill its a bargain imo.

While he shows promise and could potentially be a good player, maybe Rovers don't want to drop £5 million on a unproven player at this level (We already have one in Kalanic). It is vital that Rovers get someone who can has proven goal scoring ability playing in a 4-5-1 formation.

Can't or won't? That's the issue here. If we don't value him at £5m then so be it. We follow a very well run club and I trust Sam and the board to make the right decisions. I still think we are in the driving seat to sign the striker and hopefully he'll make the trip to Ewood for the Arsenal game.

The problem is proven goal scoring ability costs even more than £5 million. Yes we got Benni and RSC for less but they were very much exceptions rather than the rule.

How is it silly? Why pay £5m if you can pay £4m? If we want the player that badly he'll sign for us, and I bet it's for less than what his club want for him.

Ps. I'm not mellison, cock.

I think his point was that it's difficult to get the price down if two other clubs are willing to pay full whack. Why would his club say "well two clubs have offered 5 million, but Blackburn have offered 4...they seem like a nice club, let's let them pay less".

Oh come on, history is full of this kind of scenario. The player will 99 times out of 100 join the club he wants to join. If he digs his heels in there is no doubt we will get him cheaper, with a payment structure that suits us. This is all assuming he really does want to join our club over the other two clubs.

Spot on.

Like Nicko said the other day - £5m is nothing, even to clubs like us. Clubs never pay upfront so say its over 3 years, we only need to find £1.66m a year - its easy!

JW playing hardball again - no suprise really...its what he's paid to do!
