[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Recommended Posts

Strange story indeed, on one hand they say Genoa had their bid turned down and may up their bid, anyone could make that assumption, on the other Dortmund could not match the fee last summer which was less than it is now.

In Sky's report on Saturday, ""We think Lewandowski would be served by moving to Borussia," said Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke.

"But we have no chance if his club think about only getting the highest fee."

In the Polish media last year in May when Dortmund first showed interest ....... Polish international has already been watched by Jurgen Klopp, who is a coach of Borussia. He was impressed about Lewandowski so he contacted his manager – Cezary Kucharski. However Lewandowski has valid contract with Lech Poznan, it is possible that Polish club will sell the player if the price is good. Borussia can pay 4 million euro, while Lech wants 5 million.

So they are now looking at paying around 1.5m Euro more.

Maybe the injury last week to Zidan, out for six months has forced their hand or they themselves have a striker who may be on the way out.

If we have been pushed down the pecking order, maybe Poznan want the full fee up front, I could see that causing a problem as to other signings in the summer.

I get the feeling this story has been put out to cool speculation that we are close to a deal and give Rovers time to get the lad over for the Arsenal game.

I do have doubts that we are his preferred club, unless we have offered better terms to him. maybe he's changed his mind again.

Last summer he said Dortmund was where he wanted to be..... “I’ve made a decision about my future. I want to leave Lech Poznan this summer in order to commit my future to German side Borussia Dortmund,” Lewandowski was quoted as saying by Fakt.

If we are playing for time it's a very dangerous game to play for the sake of 500k or so.

Let's get this clear.

Lewandowski can leave Lech Poznan...there is a supposed price clause, but that is open to debate.

Three clubs have said they want him...he has been allowed to speak to them all because Lech Poznan want to cash in.

He has been to Genoa but wants to see Rovers play and also meet Borussia Dortmund...all very sound judgement on the player's behalf.

I fail to see how it goes from inviting a player over for talks to suddenly saying you don't have the money for him.

There IS money to spend...

There just seems to be a bit of a disagreement about how to do deals.

Someone from your club invited Lewandowski over last weekend - and wants him back in a fortnight.

You don't do that with a player under contract unless you have permission of his club [Lech Poznan] and that club thinks you are doing business at the price quoted.

If someone wants to leak after that - to the local paper and around the circuit - that they don't want to buy him at that price then there seems to be a serious communication problem within the building.

At the end of last week Rovers had a fighting chance of doing this deal. Now I am not so sure.

Could it have anything to do with Peders.. has he given the indication he is not going to sign?

i.e. if we have an overall budget of x and need 2 strikers and now a peders replacement wont that have a significant effect on the overall budget.

So Nicko, if this Polish chap gets messed about and decides to sign for another club, does that mean we're back in for that Borelli (sp?) or is now deemed a bit of a lost cause due to his injury?

The good thing about the Lewandowski deal is that there could and should be a quick result on it. He may agree to join a new club in a matter of days or a couple of weeks. That should be helpful.

There is no doubt he is the number one target, but Rovers have been doing their homework - or trying to - by looking into the Mauro Boselli option.

Boselli's injury is not that bad. He could be playing by the weekend.

Lewandwoski's wages and fee would be cheaper than Boselli's...although not by that much. However there are even more clubs keen on him than Lewandowski, so that could become even more expensive if an auction starts.

If you get one or the other you would probably have done well. If you don't it could be a long summer.

It is becoming apparent to me that Sam has a transfer budget similar to what he had last season £5-7 Million (he will get 750k more for each position above 13th we finish, in the highly unlikely event of finishing below 13th he will lose £750k for each position below 13th). Therefore buying the Polish lad will pretty much blow the vast majority of his transfer budget. Club is being cautious, buying a player for circa £5 million is a big deal for Rovers, we simply are not in a position to make expensive mistakes.

It must be hugely frustrating for Sam but unfortunately this is the reality that Rovers live in, we simply do not have the resources to go out and even spend £10-15 million each season. The owners don't have/aren't putting any additional money into the club.

I am sorry if this sounds gloomy but it is time that people realised that we will not be going out this summer and spending millions, instead we will get one marquee signing (ala Kalanic) and a couple of players who are either freebies (in terms of transfer fees) or young players that no one has heard of (ala N'Zonzi).

I have to say I had heard roughly the same as the LT have reported...which is that there seems to be a difference between the manager wanting to do the deal and the money men being reluctant to pay all of the cash.

It's not a crisis yet but when you pull in players for talks and then don't go through with deals it makes the job very difficult.

Interesting times.

We had nearly two pages of debate based on a falsehood, that Dortmund/Genoa have met the £5 million valuation. Can someone point me where it says that in the LET?

It says that Genoa have had a 4.3m offer turned down and doesn't even mention if Dortmund have bid or not and yet everyone on here has read the article as both clubs meeting the £5m asking price.

If you actually read the article, you will see that nither Genoa or Dortmund have met the valuation (or even submitted an offical written bid) but the LET journo 'thinks' or assumes they'll be making an imporved offer in a few days...why not think or assume Rovers will make a better offer too?

Seems like a run-of-the-mill transfer to me. Several perties involved, all trying to offer as little as possible to get the man they want. I seem to be the only person to have read the story properly.

9 times out of 10 Nicko is on the money. Leaked that we won't match the fee, if he was coming across then Sam must have said 5 million no worries, and then we haggle after saying we'll pay it?????? If I was at Lech I would not be impressed at all, the local rag must have been told that is what we want to do otherwise it would not have been printed as Nicko has pointed out.

If he's the man Sam wants and we have the money stop pissing around and sign him.

All our pissing around is doing is:

A;) giving the player the impression we don't want him that badly.

B :) giving other teams the chance to nick him.

C:) Pissing off the manager, who has assured us yet another season in the top flight.

D:) Our refusal to dig deep at times ###### Hughes of no end and he walked, despite my dislike of our style I at this time don't want to lose Sam as he will keep us up, but if we don't support his plans???????

The sooner we get our deals sorted the better we will start the season having had more time to GEL them all together, if we are to push on again next year that is crucial.

Im still failing to see why everyone is getting such a hard on about a player from the polish league with a decent goal scoring record? 5 million? No wonder we want to haggle the price down.

And jumping a few pages back with regards to Kalanic, would you spend 6million on him again? Erm no... He is a square peg for a round hole, if we need a hold up man, buy a bloody hold up man, not a flimsy goal shy croat.

Gotta agree with this - I am actually a big Kalanic fan - and do think he will come good in the end - but at the moment we have yet to see a return on our investment. Possibly down to formation - possibly him finding his feet - but he has to produce the goods on a regular basis next season.

It's not everyone...it's the manager's choice...

As with Salgado what Sam wants Sam gets. ;):D

Which I'm fine with, as long as Sam has his eye on some inexpensive, young talent for our midfield. Once [and if] we buy Lewandowski, that likely means Joe Ledley or Gary Hooper won't happen as the money won't be there.

We can not play any more young inexperienced players in midfield, we've N'Zonzi & Olsson already in the starting eleven and we've got a few young talented midfielders knocking on the door for a place in the first eleven; Amine Linganzi, Alan Judge, Junior Hoilett (can also play as striker) all to battle for places in the starting line up with Dunny, Bert, Diouf, Grella & Pedersen and that's not counting Andrews and Reid.

What we need is an experienced creative midfielder who can spray the ball about and play to feet like Tugay used to do whilst passing on his wealth of knowledge to the likes of N'Zonzi & co to help bring them on.

If Rovers want him...JW will get him.

Lets just see how this one works out eh!

We obviously have a valuation for every player & therefore we are not about to over-spend on someone just because he has other options - thats what the likes of Leeds & Newcastle used to do! :brfc:

Yes. He's one of our best players.

He has been to Genoa but wants to see Rovers play

Is it wise for us letting him see how we play? If I was him, I wouldn't fancy signing for Rovers knowing that I was gonna spend 3 years battling with two centre-halves and chasing 90 yard balls aimed vaguely in my direction .... ;)
