According to the co-efficient ranking system, then yes.

UEFA Country Ranking 2010

Those figures are a little warped though, one successful team can massively influence the ratings in the lower leagues.

For example, I don't think many would try to argue that the Ukrainian league is stronger than the Portuguese or Dutch. It's probably Shaktar's performances giving the illusion in that table though.

There is no way the Cypriot league is stronger than the Norwegian, Swedish, Polish and Croatian leagues!

I mentioned a few days ago that with the likely price being £4-5 million (for the Polish striker), it would be unlikely to happen. Some people on here seemed shocked by that - TV money could change things slightly but would be surprised if we spend much at all this summer.

Look at our track record of spending, plus our wages/turnover ratio is very worrying.

Who knows, would love to be wrong!

Based on what? We can't afford his wages, we don't have anyone to put their hands in their own pockets like Celtic have.

Well I think he will be on the move this summer - and im pretty sure he wont be looking for anything like £105k from then on - im sure that was more to do with luring him to Celtic and knowing how many Celtic shirts would be sold with his name on (so perhaps his marketing tied in with his wages there?).

He has a good goal scoring record and would make a big impact on our squad.

it doesnt matter how many people live in the country!!!! my god some people seriously thick

Missing a word by any chance?

I don't doubt his record, I think he's a brilliant player. If he were to leave Tottenham at a price we could afford then nearly every team in the league would be after him, we wouldn't stand a chance.

More likely is that he'll leave for £8 million ish and at least £65k a week wages, far too much for us. Wouldn't surprise me to see him end up at somewhere like Birmingham if Yeung is serious about financing their ambition.

Not trying to be a killjoy, but it is also the same with players like O'Hara. If Spurs decide to sell him, a few other clubs will also be in for him, who we probably cannot compete financially with. Plus buying him would take up most, if not all, of our transfer budget for the summer.

Think Sam said it himself last summer, it is very difficult for us to buy Premier League established players, we simply cannot afford them.

Yeah suppose we have the likes of Sunderland & Birmingham who seem keen to pay top wack for players.

Best to look at talented youngsters then - Charlie Adam for left wing (but he'd cost up to £5m), Ledley on a free (but again he would cost compo).....its a tough market!

Best to just find some more cheap French lads who turn out to be quality players :tu:

If it was just as easy as that Hughesy, every club would be doing it. We've just had a good run..

Well at least I'm smart enough to put a verb in my sentences.

I think it's a pretty good measure for relative strength of leagues, where football is a major sport anyway. Some countries might have one or two outstanding teams - as mentioned above Ukraine and Shaktar Donetsk is a good example. It looks like Austria have had a very good 09/10 according to the stats, but that's probably one team having a good run. Cyprus scored well in the table because Nicosia did. Overall, I'd find it difficult to believe that the Austrian league as a whole is stronger than the Polish one. Neither are wonderful but then if there was a striker in a major league scoring a hatful of goals he would be completely outside our budget.

If we could stretch to bringing in O'hara and Lewandoski (sp) I'd consider that a brilliant summer transfer window.

Me too, O'Hara has energy, enthusiasm and quality, ideal for Rovers and from what I have seen of the Pole he has a good all round game and is strong!!

Rafa > Juve

Wenger > Madrid ??? Could happen!

Mourinho - hopefully will return to England - perhaps at City if Lippi leaves Italy after the World Cup, as Mancini might get the nod for that job!

The Celtic Football Club is a Scottish football club based in the Parkhead area of Glasgow, which currently plays in the Scottish Premier League

I do get what your saying though mate - That would be my only worry - so it would be down to him......MASSIVELY reduced wages at Celtic & mickey mouse footy, or decent wages & premier league footy with us!?

If I heard right he is also very unhappy at the state of the pitches north of the border too. I'd love to see him at Rovers, good foil for Kalinic I think but since Sam will only ever start one up front bit of a redundant luxury.

And i really hope Joaquin Boghossian and Hirac Yagan are on our radar. Class.

I went having an e-scout of them...that Boghossian looks and sounds a reasonable prospect, scoring about 1 in 2 in the Argentinian league at 22, especially since he's supposed to be a big bugger so would fit Sam's style. But how do you know this Yagan is 'class'? According to Wiki he has only played 4 professional games (plus two internationals).

A pretty long run.....

Good players bought for what turned out to be massively less than their value:- NZonzi, Samba, Nelsen, Pedersen, Cruz, McCarthy, Niell, Friedal, Bentley, Tugay, Warnock....

We are the best club in the country for buying players who perform decently (or brilliantly in some cases) for very little imo. Something has to be right somewhere. We are about to finish 10th-12th after having a transfer spend of -16m.

If it ha been for a year I would give you that but considering we have managed to live off negative transfer balances since the Worthington cup win across three different managers (I have discounted Ince) you have to say it is an utterly viable football model.

I don't think Souey was on a negative budget...yes we got a lot of money for Duff but we spent big money on Grabbi and Cole.

Anyway I think where we've gone right is appointing the right manager and having a good scouting network who surely must be lucky enough to have some good contacts. And yes it's a model we are doing well on but it's not a model you can rely on.

Souey probably was about even but the money got turned off after Cole which was way back in 2002. Ever since we have sold more than we have bought. And it has seen us very well.

I would love to see more investment but we also need to maintain our scouting and purchasing approach. It has been exceptional. I disagree that we cannot continue it. Nothing suggests we can't to my mind provided we continue getting good managers and infrastructure.

How many years ago did the trust stop putting £3 million a year in? I'm sure that was after the Souness era.

At least 4 or 5 years ago I think.....perhaps they could give us the £3m per season that they held back now? One could wish

Personally, I don't know why there is so much excitement about who we might sign. It seems 80% of our signings are either 'one for the future' or 'not ready for the Premier League' for the first 6 months - our January signings who haven;t played a single minute being one of each. I've been far more excited this season by the young 'uns who were already here but who have broken through. Let's hope there are a couple more behind them.

For me the reason for the excitement is that I've seen Lewandowski play and he looks like he may well have the ability to turn into something very good. Whenever you have the chance to get a young player who has good movement and can finish with both feet you really shouldn't pass it up.
