I said that I thought N'Zonzi was going to be a good player, but that I thought he would take time to make his way into the squad. I never said that he wouldn't make it, nor that he was totally unable to do so at this point in time.

Roberts said: "Things can change overnight no matter how old you are or how long your contract is.

"But I just want to play. My whole time here has been frustrating here in that I haven't played as much as I would have wanted.

"I haven't strung as many games together as I would have liked."

Sounds like Roberts wants out and is openly advertising it..

Because he's not as good as we would have liked.

Whenever he has had a good run of games he's been awful, the only times he has ever been good for us is when he's come from the bench and changed games.

I hope he does go in the summer, I can't stand him.

Roberts with little time to think is a quality striker...however give him time & an easy chance and he is pathetic!

The reason he doesnt play much is because he doesnt score enough goals & tends to spend most of the game moaning at the ref & asking for fouls. He's a decent player - but he's better suited to the championship!

Big Sam talks of his striking concern (Skysports), saying that all three strikers have had numerous opportunities to get on the score sheet - but haven't. Kalinic has even had more than the other two, and he's now looking to get a new striker in.

Well, Sam, I've got a different idea for you. What about bringing someone who creates chances instead? If you're playing 5 in midfield, the least you need is someone who can help our lone striker. To be honest, I think it's a really poor angle of this situation - not necessarily Sam's fault - the strikers haven't failed us, the whole team has. How he can avoid that is beyond me - what does he expect from our strikers?

Looking forward to seeing Hoilett v Wolves, we need wide players who can get to the byline and create problems. Unless we can bring in a young version of anelka or henry, or even bellamy - someone who does everything on their own - we won't get a fifteen goals a season-striker with this formation and that kind of support. Simple as.

Yes we do, but they hardly clear cut chances are they?

Even against Everton where we were told we created loads of chances most were scrambles in the box with 10-15 of the players on the pitch in that area. I could completely understand the view if we were missing one on ones repeatedly and the such like, but we generally don't create those sort of chances. Most of ours come from set-pieces with us loading the box and the opposition flooding it as well, its not that easy to put the ball in the back of the net with 4-5 players in the way of your shot.

We desperately need to create more from open play so that we have better chance to get the ball in the back of the net and that means a better less static midfield so we actually have passing options in that area as apposed to seeking to by-pass them persistently.

Good post herbergeehh - I found Sam's comments strange too and if I were one of our strikers I'd be banging my head against the wall.

As you say it's as if Sam expects Bellamy esque (Pompey away springs to mind) performances from our strikers and that ain't gonna happen. Sign a decent winger (out wide in the front three) and get a creative midfielder and I'm positive that Niko would bag around 12 minimum per season in the league.

Sam's percentage game would dictate we lack a striker who suits the system. Love it or hate it, but that's how we play: Lump it forward at the first opportunity and hope we win a free-kick or a throw. Perfect for the Kevin Davies, John Hartsons and Emile Heskeys of the game, but they've never exactly been prolific have they? There's a difference between the way we play 4-5-1 and the way other Premiership teams go about it. Like someone else said, if you want goals out of Kalinic then provide the players to support him.

I've had a thought what do people on here think about us signing David Beckham?????

Cha-ching!

Now dont get me started on that one, I would love Beckham at Rovers and he would do a great job and pay for himself even at £100k per week!!!

Amen to this Majiball. I can't remember a Rovers team in so long having so little actual shots - If i was up there on my own I would be dispairing.

Surely signing another striker suggests playing two up though - Sam can't have given up on Niko already

Allardyce has discarded players very early before (van Heerden recently, and numerous of his free signings and agent tip offs at Bolton). It's not exactly the same situation with Kalinic, but it gives a hint of what he (Allardyce) is capable of.
