You should be banned for posting such rubbish.;) 5mill a no go for Lewandowski, but then linked with an 8 and 12mill strikers hahahaha.

No one knows our budget but as Sam said...

“The risk is greater because the country he comes from is not renowned at any great standard with regards league football. His record is very good both at club level and at international level, but the age and the inexperience could mean he is made to wait and to be patient.

So maybe we do have more budget but are not willing to throw it away on Lewandowski, and in saying that he is making sure the kid know we are interested but not willing to push the price. The kid is bound to know he wont be first choice at Genoa or Dortmund, but has the chance to be a first teamer in the league he wants to play in.

How many players go to the team they want rather than the team willing to offer the most? And what was it that Sam said last pre-season in regards to signings.. we dont have the money to sign.. quickly followed by two more signings.

Although 12m for cisse is without a doubt a no go.. as the article says Sam would have to double his bid..

I wonder if Dindanes goals today and his good performance at Wembely will have his pushed his price up higher

Yep.. then again how many people on here really didn't rate him?.. to me I would rather of had him over Roberts without a shadow of a doubt.

A front line of Kalinic and Roberts next season.. ick.. our front line worked better today at 3-5-2 but we still lacked enough of a cutting edge despite more service and when Wolves switched formations we lost it in having to counter by bringing on Andrews (yay everyones favourite)

I still think Sam wants the option of being able to play different formations, and I don't believe our current striker list allows us that luxury... Di Santo isn't ready, Kalinic isn't ready but has potential and Roberts is strong but cant hit a barn door from 38cm.

Sam really does have an incredibly versatile and strong defense to build from like the old smith days at arsenal.

To me Sam is heading in the right direction and I have little doubt that whatever we sign next will come good, Salgado, Kalinic, Nzonzi, Lars, Spit and co have imo improved the team.. and the likes of ols and jones have really begun to impress and Samba keeps on improving.

I still think we will end up with 1-2 new strikers (replacing Di Santo and adding one) and 1-2 new midfielders (replacing Reid and Peders should he go)

Yes but Di Santo won't be here next year.

Yes, we'll need more than two, so one more is in the cards. I doubt that Sam will blow the wad in order to bring in one striker, though.

On the other hand, they don't pay me big bucks to opine on PL football, so its just an opinion and I could be dead wrong.

Sorry you've lost me.

Are you saying that we are sending out scouts, speaking to teams and players when we don't really want them? hasn't Dindane been up to brockhall and the such, was that just for a jolly? Why are we flying the pole over, do we do weekend breaks?

Won't take long before any club/player just hangs up the phone on us if all we are doing is dicking people around.

Good logic, this. Maybe I'm wrong.

What about Gary Hooper of scunthorpe united?

This would be an excellent move. I've been a fan of Gary Hooper for the last year or so. And I can't see how he would be a detriment to the squad, other than spending money on him is not spending money on the midfield.

NOTW  8m and 12m strikers, they would cost us circa 10m and 14m with agents fees. Must have had a bit of space that needed filling, Oh! wait hold the back page, this is a cracker, certainly made me laugh.

The German media were saying that the deal with Dortmund would be done by the weekend, not long to go then. ;)

Can we have 'the face in the crowd' back, even if only for the Arsenal game. ;)

Interesting to see Gary hooper getting some love on here. He first made his name down here with Hereford united on a loan spell from Southend. Came in and scored the goals to push the bulls into division one. He was due to sign but Scunthorpe blew Hereford out of the water with a larger bid and he went on to be a huge success there.

Not sure if he could make the step up but he'd certainly be worth a go.

Nope!!! A opinion poll is unreliable because they have only survey 1000 people so that doesnt shown what the all country is thinking and the voters they survey are undecided. Plus till we all vote then we seen who will be in power. Also people can change the mind right up to polling day.

But now BACK TO TALKING FOOTBALL!!!

SOLDADO...very good player, been injured for over two months...sounds like his agent is panicking.

CISSE...came out in Greece last week, checked it out...rubbish...no chance.

MGP...the longer it goes on the more it looks like he has not better offer out there...wonder when he will realise that.

LEWANDOWSKI...still rumbling on...not signed for Borussia Dortmund yet...possibly revealing.

DINDANE...not bad...pace...not a clean finisher, but he gets there...you could do worse...perhaps he could do better.

By using that logic though he is simply driving up the price for a striker by banging on about it all the time, which on average are even more expensive, I don't think that's the gameplan to be honest.

I think Sam bangs on about the need for new strikers all the time as a means of forcing the Board to come up with the money.

Everton and Sunderland have joined the race to sign Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen who is set to reject a new deal at Ewood Park.

the people

Its in the ever reliable daily star as well.

Right click and then select open in new window.

Soldado and Cisse are surely just not players we can afford?

Is Gamst hanging on till the end of May to see if anything comes from England, offer wise?

Nicko out of curiosity have you got any idea what we have to spend this summer????

There is cash available and you can always stage payments...

The striker is the priority - and the cost of that is THE priority right now.

The interesting part this summer is that you don't apparently have any players to sell to finance deals.

Bentley two years ago, Santa Cruz last year.

Where would you have been without those deals???

That said, he'd be a decent reserve at Everton if they ever get all their midfielders fit. And Steve Bruce is bonkers enough...

I know Kieran Richardson certainly thinks so, next Ashley Cole according to Brucie.

Thanks as always.

Do you think its realistic then that we could get in the striker Sam wants and the midfielder the fans want?

Even if Gamst does one.

Sorry to ask yet another one, question that is, but do the board still want the wage budget cut by the 5 million they wanted last summer?

Thanks in advance.

Samba? Unless someone for some reason wants to splash out money to get the raw talents of Jones or N'Zonzi.. not likely.

It's a comfortable situation, to be honest, not having to read about Spurs, West Ham and friggin Newcastle wanting our players. Just get MGP sorted now, one way or another.

Nicko, you said awhile ago we were looking at Lewandowski AND Dindane, right? I wouldn't be opposed to signing Dindane and investing the rest towards a new midfielder. I believe a decent playmaker would make the world of difference to our team. We'd then have Dindane, Kalinic, Roberts and possibly a loan-striker (another look at Di Santo?). Just a thought.

If Soldado is available at that sort of money, id be breaking their wrists off he is a VERY good player and someone to be genuinely excited about, not because of a few youtube vids or because he is good on football manager either  .

Years Team Apps (Gls)

2002–2006 Real Madrid B 120 (63)

2005–2008 Real Madrid 16 (2)

2006–2007 → Osasuna 30 (11)

2008– Getafe 57 (25)

Soldado and someone in the mould of Yossi Benayoun and we would be laughing. Also is it worth a taking a look at Riera? After his outburst he is on his way out, maybe on the cheap and he has a sweet left foot. Not blessed with pace but still a very tidy player.

-----------Robbo-----------

Salgado-Samaba-Jones-Olsson

-----Dunn-Fonzi-Benayoun---

Diouf-----------------Riera

----------Soldado----------

That team could go far imo.

That team could go far and cost far far more than we have available. Benayoun wouldn't go for less than 8 million unless he is out of contract and I missed it

Benayoun? You had my attention until that part. He'd walk into any side outside the top 4/5, he'd never come to us.

It seems like many of us have been saying this for years, but forget the sole focus on bringing strikers in. Our midfield needs some serious attention.

Agree that we desperately need quality in the midfield. Thankfully Sam has got his priorities right in focussing on strikers. We need someone up front who can score goals. In fact, we need two strikers.

The argument that our strike force of Roberts, Kalanic and DiSanto haven't produced the goods, is because of the lack of service, doesn't wash with me. A forward has to do a bit of something for himself, not just wait for someone else to lay sitters on a plate for them.

Did Bellamy stand around waiting for the chances? Did David Speedie not create loads of chances for himself? Did Shearer never do anything to help himself? Did Fred Pickering never create chances from nothing? Were all Simon Garners goals laid on a plate for him? No. These lads all had the ability to cause problems for their markers. The current three don't.

Unless I'm reading it wrong he didn't say that he would come to us.

He said someone in the mould of. I presume he means a forward thinking midlfielder who can dribble a bit?

All these players played in a formation where there was 2 up top, didn't they?
