Amo
I was thinking, if Sam refuses to spend any serious dough on the midfield, whether Darren Ambrose would be an outside bet? He plays for Palace, so should come dirt cheap, versatile midfielder and still young.

BPF
Wasn't Abbey confusing him for Soldado? Ah I see. I remember a paper talking about Sam signing him at one point. Very odd.

Scores goals from all angles and has certainly rattled them in this year (he can also take a set piece which would be a novelty), with the plight that Palace are in Ambrose and the young right back Clyne (yes he is a right back, but turf out Chimbonda and Jacobsen and get this guy in with youth on his side) would be high up my wish list. daveoftherovers
Article about small clubs not receiving any protection on talented youngsters & the intergrity & Respect by Blackburn when signing Ramm What an excellent article, basically confirms everything I've heard externally that our club, chairman and manager inparticular are well thought of and respected, long may it continue! 67splitscreen
And while your at it Nicko how strong is Werder Bremen's interest in Lewandowski. I've read that Dortmund want to pay over three years, Genoa will pay all up front , ( wonder if that is why we are stalling ) although under the asking price, he is also way down on their shopping list until they get some answers from other targets. imperial rover
I have a mate working in Poland (I know, the irony) who really rates Lewandowski. Not seen him myself other than Youtube but he sounds good. Ambrose is a really decent shout and I hope we do go for Ledley. And, seeing as it's time to pick over the bones of the relegated teams, what about Dawson @ Hull? I guess someone's already said it but if Citeh are having a car boot I'd be happy to take Johnson off their hands! And my penneth re: Dindane - under £2m ta very much. Over that and he can go to an auction after the WC. (Sorry trying to work within the boundaries of the vaguely plausible!)
roversinmyblood
I think that we should go for Marc Janko and if possible Didane. We would then have a target man, quick forward, a goal poacher and a crude battering ram i.e. Janko, Didane, Kalinic and Roberts. All options covered. And before I get flak for Janko - he is still scoring lots of goals and has scored 7 goals in 15 appearances for Austria.
Iceman
Janko and Zigic with Dindane playing down the right. I love this long ball stuff, keeps us in the league.
Veevs
City still have 2 fit keepers so why should they be able to bring another in? Ridiculous if they get the go ahead My thoughts exactly and shockingly they have been allowed.. ex blackburn lad neilson as third choice, I am sure many other clubs have had to play third choice keepers before (and teams if I remember the past sagas of kids playing or the occasional Portsmouth show this season).. Anyways back on topic.. Here has always been good for an overview of whats in the uk papers.. are we still keeping tabs on any of the other names mentioned... e.g. Mbokani? Kelbo
Sam may be right here, Janko, the Pole and Zigic are all untried in the premiership, Shevchenko, Kalinic, Salgado and many otheres have taken time to adjust to the Prem and we havent got the time, Dindane has played in the prem and has pace, he may be the best option. I may be wrong but those are my thoughts.

I would guess at 50% are pretty much failures or have taken 6 months plus to adjust in this league for one reason or another.. hell even the likes of Deco (still not sure if he ever fully adjusted), Ballack, Cantona, Henry, Pavlyuchenko etc etc took a good while to get there and these have been (or are) world class players in their day (which imo makes the Nzonzi signing all that much better)... then you have the likes of Veron, ronaldhino, Kleberson, Brolin, Bogarde, Boumsong, Grabbi, Taibi, Dahlin, Balaban, Mutu, dos santos etc etc.... whoops
Muddboy
The Daily Mail says Newcastle are pondering a £1 million move for Jason Roberts. Initially I thought that's good money for a 32-year-old with only a year left on his contract. But the reality is that JR's dug us out of a few holes this season and would we be able to replace that with only £1 million in our pocket? I don't think we can. On his day Roberts is unplayable - and as he showed against Everton his finishing can be good providing he doesn't have too much time to think about it. For pace and strength - to be honest he isn't too far behind Drogba - just a shame he can't finish like Drogba - however if he could, we would never have been able to afford him in the first place. Unless Sam has somebody lined up - we should be asking at least £2.5m if not more. What price a striker with Premiership experience ?

With less than 1 goal in 5 (13 in 70 appearances for us) he cant hit a barn door from a few cm's and a record of inconsistency that denies belief.. OK maybe 1.5m tops, sure he can hustle but his passing is not exactly drogba (you see his crosses last match?).
Brfcrule1
I was hoping we might get an offer for Roberts but I agree 1.5M at the very least striker with prem. experience. I hope we get rid as I still get nightmares with that open goal miss against sunderland a couple of seasons back and as stated 1 goal in 5 or 13 in 70 apps for us is nowhere near prem. standard. Right tin hats on. I do have a couple of names with which to play with. As Sam is after a big strong type player to hold the ball up get flick ons and generally cause havoc, create chances for Kalinic to score. One player Kalinic would look up to who I believe could work well together is Kevin Davies surely worth annoying our neighbours with a cheeky 1.5M bid. Also from the same club would be worth a shot did well for Pompey before is Taylor he surely can't be any worse than MGP! apart from them maybe dindane as he offers pace up front. Iceman
Not Davies, we need to try and move forward. I would still like to see, Dindane and Lewandowski sign. Young player with potential, and 1 with premiership experience. That, or Cisse and Dindane. Money as always will be the problem, but we got to try and make things happen next season. Steve Moss
Now that Burnley's been relegated, is there any chance that Chelsea might loan us Jack Cork in lieu of Di Santo? To my inexpert eye he looks decent. As to the balance of Burnley's squad, Chris Eagles obviously plays well. I'm curious as to what he might be able to achieve at a proper club, like Blackburn. And if we were to get him it might dent Coyle's plans who has apparently stated that he wants to take him to Bolton. Anything to weaken the opposition. I'd second any considertion of Darren Ambrose. Doesn't he have some PL experience with Newcastle? I'm a bit fearful about next year. The competition below us and coming up have been re-tooling and might be tougher to beat next go round. But we should be more than ok if Sam can make 2-3 decent buys. As to the balance of the rumors, Soldado or Lewandowksi both look really good to me. If we get one of these two my trepidation will give way to cautious hope. Especially as the rumor mill tends to link us with younger, up and coming players (excepting Cisse and Dindane). On that note, Sam is likely to continue his downward aging of the team based on: GK Paul Robinson 30 years DF Lars Jacobsen 30 years DF Christopher Samba 26 years DF Gaël Givet 28 years DF Ryan Nelsen 32 years MF Brett Emerton 31 years MF David Dunn 30 years FW Jason Roberts 32 years MF Vince Grella 30 years MF Morten Gamst Pedersen 28 years MF Amine Linganzi 20 years MF Steven N'Zonzi 21 years MF Keith Andrews 29 years MF El Hadji Diouf 29 years MF Yıldıray Baştürk 31 years DF Martin Olsson 21 years FW Nikola Kalinić 22 years FW David Hoilett 19 years FW Franco Di Santo 21 years DF Míchel Salgado 34 years DF Phil Jones 18 years GK Jason Brown 27 years GK Mark Bunn 25 years DF Pascal Chimbonda 31 years All information is from wikipedia. I deleted Maceo Rigters and Grant Hanley who were also listed under the first team, which I think was someone's idea of a joke (no offense to Hanley as I have no idea who he is). Of the remaining 25 players listed above, the total years is 645. Divided by 25 gives an average Rover player age of 25.8 years. The most likely (i.e my guesswork) transfers out, IMO, are almost all over that average age: Roberts (32), Pedersen (28), Andrews (29), Basturk (31). The only player under that average is Di Santo (on loan). So the average will continue to drop, which is good for the Rovers future prospects, so long as we can keep some experience for seasoning. Janko, I no we did him to death last summer, I know the league is not the best, I know no one else has taken a chance on him but from the start of 08/09 he has contributed to 90 goals that includes 22 assists for Red Bull. Even a quarter of them would make a big difference to what we have at the moment, Kalinic playing off him feeding on the scraps, it could work, might even be better still with Dindane in their too. The big problem and the one that stops a club like us taking a chance on him IMO is, his value as a player for them in their team, he's their Rooney, I suppose they see him as irreplaceable for the money they would be offered, they won their league again thanks mainly to his contribution, CL QL footy again however brief.
