CrazyIvan
Geordies to bid £1m for Roberts!? Jay Rob has his own theme tune. Much as I like him and respect what he does for those less fortunate, he has a major block with one-on-ones or has time to think... Still, I don't think I'd like him to leave because I think he has a great role in the club and is a good sub late in the game.
Eddie
I think a player like Roberts is easy to replace and that we are probably massively overpaying a player who's role is really limited to a late-in-the-game bulldozer.
Backroom DE. Posted April 27, 2010 Backroom Share Posted April 27, 2010 Roberts is clearly not happy in the sub role, and he'll only continue to complain if we use him that way again next season. He's no starter, so I suppose he has to go. I'd hope we get at least 1.5/2M for him, but 1M with clauses that allow the price to rise based on appearances/staying up (but obviously not goals) would be okay. Guest roverspogges
Why do people keep saying JR can finish if he "doesn't have time to think" what a load of BS.
CrazyIvan
Why do people keep saying JR can finish if he "doesn't have time to think" what a load of BS. Erm, because he has? When he has time to think about a shot, he inevitably fluffs it. One-on-ones, time in the box etc. Hitting it first time, he tends to score more goals. Or so it appears and I'm certainly not the only one with that opinion...
Guest roverspogges
I don't agree at all he's just a terrible finisher. It's an illusion. Let's say, for arguments sake, that's true then what does it change anyway?? His goal record is awful.
philipl
Haven't followed the latest row on here so no doubt I will get flat headed by saying I don't care whether Newcastle or West Brom are offering £1m for our Jas so long as one of them land him... Amo
Sell Roberts for £1m and a '1v1 fail' bonus in his contract. We'll have enough for Messi by 2011/2012.
hermitstool
I'm not sure if this is true, but it's only fair to share- and maybe Nicko would be good enough to see if there is any foundation behind the hearsay: A friend of mine is a Chef and knows Nigel Haworth who claims that we have done deals for both Aruna 'Zinedine' Dindane (old news I know) AND more interestingly Frederic Piquionne. Personally I think they would both be welcome additions to our strikeforce. Though neither are prolific they have both looked threatening from what I have seen of them this season. With any luck we'll be able to pillage some clubs in financial plight this close season- I like the look of Darren Ambrose, and Hull are bound to have players going cheap. Stephen Hunt from Hull would be a good buy, I think there will be a bidding war for him though.

Piquionne has not had a mention for almost a year. Ambrose will go to QPR [which is his level] and Hull players are available - but not good enough. He is a potential cult player. But Hull probably were forced to pay him a lot and he is overpaid. Nicko, can you confirm this? Or was it Hughesy who "knew" everybody´s wages? Tom Cairney is my Hull player to go for.

And I don't think he has a pay-cut written into his contract.
Ricky
Take the money for Roberts and chuck an extra £1m in the kitty for Gary Hooper. Young and talented and knows where the back of the net is. Scunthorpe probably wouldn't be able to turn down a £2m bid.

I'm sure he'd drop £10/week to play in the top flight at a club where he can get a start every week and have a realistic chance of getting to Europe be it via league position or a domestic cup final. Somebody will be daft enough to give him full wages - either on loan or a cheap buy. And that club will then be in a good position to offer him the chance of a third relegation in a row. Avoid.
