JAL
It's reported that Tuncay will be leaving Stoke this summer. He would be brilliant for us on the wing, he's exactly the type of player you need out wide in the formation we play - someone who will be a goal threat and be attack minded. Maybe Tugs can put in a word. Why exactly? hes been crap for about two seasons now and earning 50k a week for it, does he really fit the bill. Torgeir
Why exactly? hes been crap for about two seasons now and earning 50k a week for it, does he really fit the bill. No, he had two good seasons for Boro followed by a bad one for Stoke - I think that's not just down to the player but also because of the way they play. Not sure he'd accept a wage cut but he'd definitely be a starter in our midfield. I still think a target man is primarily what we need though, then we can start looking elsewhere for reinforcement. Did he really have a good final season at Boro when they went down, surely thats highly debateable.
LeChuck
Why exactly? hes been crap for about two seasons now and earning 50k a week for it, does he really fit the bill. Unfortunately, if we want good players, we're in a financial position where we either have to a] buy young and train them up, or b] good players who have lost their way and we could 'rescue'. Tuncay definitely has the ability to be an excellent player. He was excellent at Middlesbrough but just hasn't been able to fit into Stoke's system. They want two battering rams as forwards and play a fairly rigid middle four. In our formation that uses three more attacking midfielders behind a striker I really think he could flourish. Amo
I see what your saying MGM however..... The reasons against: 1 - No premier league experience 2 - Not even any experience even @ Championship level 3 - VERY difficult to assess someones talent when they are playing 2 leagues lower (see Andrews ) 4 - £1.7m, rising to £3m is a big risk on a 'Football Manager' potential star....especially given our 'spare' cash. 5 - Even if we could - Chelsea, Arsenal & Liverpool would put an end to our interest! 1. Neither had some of our best players. Nzonzi being the recent example. 2. See above. 3. He's not comparable to Keith Andrews, at all. 4. Or a fantastic investment for the future. 5. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'm not suggesting we signed him, just debunking your argument.

Good point, but he'll have to take a big drop in wages to come here.

Ha, shame, although I knew as soon as I read it that it was likely to be tosh. Is Lewandowski still due over or has he pretty much agreed to join Dortmund now? SIMON GARNERS 194
Not sure if it has been discussed but the LET's current article about Rovers transfer budget again paints a desperate picture of the state of our finances. If we hadn't sold Benni and finish 13th, by the sound of it we would have zero transfer budget this summer. Burnley will have a bigger transfer budget to spend this summer, fact. It just hits home the position of our owners who: - Won't put any money in - Won't take any more risk on or speculate - BUT if it is such a burden to them, won't allow us to be sold below a price which currently is putting buyers off. Also for those still having a go at Big Sam, name another credible manager who would actually join a club where he had no money to improve the team? Hardly a pot to p1ss in Really depressing situation, how long can even Sam manage like this? We are receiving increased TV income next season,on top of what again will likely be an increase in club profit for this season.Again, the question must be asked.....WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING? 1864roverite
Been away up in Aberdeen and Newcastle for 2 days and just catching up with the latest gossip due to the fact the papers in Jockland are full of Rangers winning and Celtic losing, pretty boring rubbish ! Chatting last night to an avid Geordie who was with two Welshmen, one a Cardiff fan t'other a Swansea fan. We had a right old chat. Titbit from the Geordie is that NUFC wont be splashing as they are skint. Fat Ash has apparently said only £12m will be available and the squad has to be culled. He mention the young striker Ranger and that according to local rumours Rovers had been looking to take him on loan with a view to a permanent signing in JANUARY and that we were now considered the favourite destination due to him being kicked out of the club for disciplinary reasons. Titbit from the Cardiff lad surrounded Ledly. He was being linked with Rovers with a Rovers player going on loan to them IF they stay down. I couldnt really understand the Swansea lad such was his strong taffy tongue ! Other than that the N East papers were full of Sunderland rubbish and Bruce allegedly being given £30m to spend ! Same as always - on the club - mostly wages. To be honest only one person knows how much money we have to spend - and that is JW. If we had more to spend than usual (for the reasons you outline) why publish that and add 1/2m for every player we go for ? The truth is - for the long term good of the club - they have to get the wage as % of income far lower than it is.
MarkBRFC71
MGP's new contract Lol. But seriously, we're short of money but looking to waste £30k a week over 3 years on that shirker?! Our financial situation makes re-signing Pedersen look even more ridiculous.
John
We don't have much money, but we should be used to that by now, even though it is becoming harder to compete. Hopefully we can use the loan signings better next season - I know some still rate him but overall you have to say Di Santo did not work out. It's stories like that which make me tear my hair out at our approach to matches (home to West Ham sticks in the memory) where we could have turned a point into three by having a bit more ambition. Now we are told that two matches against Arsenal and Aston Villa are vital as they will dictate how much money we have to spend. I seriously hope this is just a negotiating tactic so that clubs don't try to screw us over. Trouble that point of view seems to get raised every transfer window and there is no secret wad of cash hidden down the back of the sofa at the last minute. Given the teams that have gone down and the teams coming up, if we don't strengthen this Summer, I fear for us next season.

Our financial situation makes re-signing Pedersen look even more ridiculous. This is the thing I've been banging on about for ages now. The club have consistently said how they need to lower the wage bill, but are willing to splash out that kind of money on that waste of space. Add the likes of Diouf, Andrews and Roberts to the list of players, who aren't good enough, yet get paid a fortune and we can see why we have no money. The club should be actively looking to off load these types of players and maybe then, we'd have more dough to splash on players.

Easier said than done - what if no one wants to buy them, or are not offering enough money for them? Also, how are we meant to replace players when we have little/no money. Their replacements might cost more in wages too potentially. Can't just rely on the free transfer market, you are looking at it far too simplistically. Backroom Tom Posted April 28, 2010 Backroom Share Posted April 28, 2010 Sounds like a nothing story, a routine pre match scouting trip tarted up by the media. I wouldn't be surprised if wenger liked Nzonzi at some stage though for the obvious reasons
MeanGreenMachine
Simply, Jones has similar if not better ability than Smalling £20 million. N'Zonzi has the potential to be the new Viera aye? Well if he is going to be that good again another £20million please. See if Wenger is still interested after that.
