Really depressing situation, how long can even Sam manage like this?

We are receiving increased TV income next season,on top of what again will likely be an increase in club profit for this season.Again, the question must be asked.....WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING?

Not sure but didnt JW say we should have cut our wage bill by £5m, but as it never happened - the extra money (Due from next season) would make up the shortfall??

Jones will soon get links if he continues - lets hope he really does support us! If so, then we have little to worry about!

NZonzi....£15m+ if they want him

Looks like the board are pulling the rug from under him again. It's disingenuous of the LET to say "the arrival of Salgado moved the goalpoasts financially", as it was the board who were moving the goalposts all last summer. We have sold all our best players over the last 4 years...

He really does support us. Travelled to millenium stadium to watch the league cup final in 2002.

People are going to say that if a player wants to leave, there's nothing we can do to stop him....but then the solution, in my view, is to bring in players who actually want to stay here and see their long future at Rovers. If that limits our options severely, then fine, it's worth the risk. Good teams are not made out of big international players, good teams are made out of squads who have stuck together for a number of years, share the same goals and ambitions, and work hard for the good of the team. I don't want stars, I don't want players that are here so we can sell them for a big fee, I want hard working team unity.

This was going to happen young, good , and French that's the work of a lazy journo who makes up stories as he goes along.

Agreed - no need to worry yet - perhaps in 12-18 months time it may be true......here's hoping :tu: because if it is, then we will have seen a player develop again into a star & make us a very nice profit to develop further with...

Timing is key = we are just about to play the Arsenal - always tends to happen before smaller teams play a "big" team where players mysteriously get linked to the opposition. As you say - don't think Rovers can lose with Nzonzi - if he doesn't improve we have a decent player on our hands - if he does improve we will have an absolute star who will without doubt be bought by one the money bags clubs, hopefully gaining Rovers a large fee in the process

Crikey you really do know nothing about football do you?

If good teams are made of squads who have stuck together for a number of years, share the same goals and ambitions and work hard for the good of the team then why don't we just hold a trial for all the season ticket holders, maybe the best 16 can be out first choice matchday squad for next season?

Good teams are made of good players. Big teams like good players. Yes you need cohesion, you need hard work but without the talent there it is next to impossible to be a good team. My grandmother could tell you that and she's never watched a minute of football in her life.

These big money transfers are essential to our survival otherwise without the financial support we'd be finding our level around about League One before long. Surely anyone with half a brain can see this so why do you repeatedly find this so hard to understand?

Whilst I understand that we will lose Jones and Fonzi at some point - such is the situation at Rovers at the minute that we have to sell our decent players to keep going - I do hope that we can hold onto both for a couple more seasons. We will get decent money for them both but keeping them a bit longer allows the team to grow further and means we can bring in other younger players without the pressure of them having to be 'ready' straight away...we have been lucky in the fact that Jones and Fonzi has been able to step straight in and look class but not everyone will be like that!

The two of them will eventually play for 'bigger' clubs but I hope thats not for a few seasons yet.

Not only that, but they both must be on relatively small wages right now - nice to have a couple of starters who aren't killing the wage bill.

As a Rovers fan we must surely understand (and be used to the fact) that if an acceptable offer comes in for one of our players; then they are sold!

It is a cycle.

Plenty of bargains to be found in the French league, Serbian league and so on. Its part of the fun.

Ensuring we have a club is far more important.

Arsenal ARE looking for a new centre half.

It isn't young master Jones.

And the N'Zonzi thing is just agent hype.

Goodbye and thank you mr Samba :P

And why is Nzonzis agent talking him up already surely he's settled here

A young French midfielder who may never get chance to excel with our style of play at an unfashionable club in the North of England with no ties or family in the area being touted to the big city clubs in the best league in the world. That's why TCO. I agree with you but we're Rovers fans, we'd love to play for our club.

I don't want him to go anywhere and I hate it when agents start stirring the sh!te but it's part of football these days. With a bit of luck he'll have his head screwed on and stay for a couple of seasons to get the first team football he needs.

Bingo! good post, that is unfortunately football today and has been for many years.

Wants an improved contract following his probably low wages based on where he came from, to now an established premier league player?

Arsenal fans, and indeed some of their board, are crying out of established names to compliment their young squad. Adding more youth seems totally pointless.

They have been for years - but still Wenger buys kids!

Just read in Calciomercato.com that Rovers are interested in Marc Zoro from Benfica again(or maybe the other way around lol).

If Sam wants him, I believe Benfica will sell him for £1 million. His contract ends next year and he is not an option for the first team.

Sorry if this was already mentioned...

While I completely agree a team is far more than the sum of its parts (look at Inter Barca last night....) players who would rather stay at Rovers than move to a CL challenging club are pretty thin on the ground. I don't think realistically you can rely on players loyalty tbh. Most if they get an offer thant progresses their career then the will move. Can we name a single example currently playing for any club in England that bucks this trend?

Its a fact of modern football. You would be astounded if we went and bid for a player like Ledley from Cardiff and he turned us down. In that example the roles are reversed. We have profited fom players careerism (look at the international nature of the squad) than suffered from it.
