According to Spanish website Airfutbol, Rovers are on the verge of signing Hugo Fernandez, from Union Deportiva Cornella, a team on the outskirts of Barcelona.

The 16-year-old centre back has been described as a forceful, strong and aggressive player with a good physique and excellent anticipation. He has been highly rated in Spain, and is said to be doing extremely well at his current level.

Please NOT Nonda. he's useless! We need 2 strikers first before we start to look at signing a midfield player.

Some midfield players to look at Sidwell at Villa and O'Neill at Boro. Both would add quality to the midfield.

Maybe we should be looking in france. Some good strikers there. Kevin Gameiro of Lorient. Score 15 goals this season. Not at a top french club.

I wouldn't mind seeing us have one of these midfielders in our squad next season. I feel they could all be available (some dearer than others) and would improve what we've got.

Nigel Reo-Coker: Fell out with O'Neill last season and hasn't featured much this season. Good athlete and a very good player.

Michael Johnson: Injuried past season or so and a bit of a fat @#/? at the mo. Get fit and could be another player Big Sam could help get their career back on track. Too many ahead of him now at Citeh.

Kevin-Prince Boateng: I wasn't a great fan of his at Spurs but at Portsmouth he's put in some impressive performances. Sometimes he can be frustrating but also has a spark about him. Something our midfield sometimes lacks. Relegation + Big Wages = Transfer out of Fratton Park ASAP

Wildcard choice

Darron Gibson: Probably the least likely to be available but with Hargreaves returning, it may suit him to join us on loan with first team football on offer. I doubt it but with a good close friendship between the managers, you never know!

Ireland please, but again wages would be crazy. He would be just the player our midfield needs. I can see City letting him go on the cheap, for between 4 to 6 mill. Pity we dont have that money though. :(

No more installment based purchases.... I figured I would post this as dependant on timing this could effect us quite allot (the board seem to be huge fans of installment based purchases).

In light of this I wonder just how much we owe from historic transfers over the last few years and how much we are owed in return (esp given most of our transfer money has been one rather one sided i.e. incoming).

Maybe thats our new approach to the transfer market.. sign and progress as many highly rated youngsters as possible and push the youth and training systems (Nzonzi, Olsson, Kalinic, Jones, Hoilett, Linzaghi et al.. hell at this rate we may be able to field a full team under 25 within a season or two).

A pleasant surprise, considering Sam's history. One of the things I give him top marks for.

Cant believe how people, think that if we sold Samba that we will see any of that money. Its the same old story, sell for big money and replace with a cheap option. Unless Samba wants to leave, i cant see Sam selling him, knowing that he wont be given all that money.

Yes you are right - any players sold by Rovers won't be replaced by one for the same price. Given the economic circumstances at the moment - this should hardly be a surprise. Can I ask a question how do you know he won't be given all the money ? Both Sam and Hughes have both commented on how they have been given every penny that is available. The club don't squirrel away money - every penny goes on the club - if the club have balanced the books - every penny of a sale would go towards transfers. But lets not forget that a £20m sale won't buy £20m pounds worth of talent - it will be far less when taking into account signing on fees etc - and also lets not forget the loyality payment made to any player not forcing a transfer.

Why does the guy who owns Wigan always support proposals which are detrimental to his team?.

That proposal will only help the top clubs in this country and disadvantage the less fortunate.

And how it would prevent another Portsmouth situation i have no idea.

Well it would help to prevent the Portsmouth situation as it would stop clubs from buying players with money they don't actually have. I'm sure that some clubs will simply borrow money instead, but it makes the system slightly more difficult to abuse.

Clubs will surely just borrow from banks and paying interest will only make the problem worse.

Portsmouths problems are surely more down to their owner pulling the investment, and total financial incompetence at the top of the club.

All the regulations which the Premier League are bringing in will just weaken the league. They should have done something about the debt situation and the rogue foreign owners,Mike Ashley's etc years ago.

It just slaps of closing the stable door once the horse has bolted.

Chelsea and Manchester City must love it though.

The Next Problem they face over the next few years as interest rates raise, the clubs which don't have a fixed interest rate on their loans will see interest payments go through the roof.

If you can just hold tight for 3-4 years and not over spend.your club could really benefit from the situation.

Dave Whelan is an ex Blackburn player.. and ex owner of JJB sports.. the new owner (still DWs good mate) of JJB happens to be one of the guys still interested in taking over of our little team.. small world I guess.

Must admit to a degree he is right.. Sadly though with money boys that wont work in our favour immediately, however eventually it will drive prices down somewhat at our mid table level and eventually across the market making smaller close to the bar teams gold dust for investment.

Id be very very displeased if Phil Jones is sold for any amount of money. Arsenal are clearly "interested". If not this season, then next, but he is a product of the academy and someone who we have from the local area of decent quality after a long time. Id rather sell Samba than him.

What that'll be the Lorient who have one of the best French managers around, have a new young president who is doing good things there and wh are currently 7th in the French league - oh, and did I mention that they beat Bordeaux last week? If you read back you'll see that Gameiro's already being touted as a signing for some of the big clubs in Europe. Don't knock Lorient - they are a team very like Rovers in that they come from a working town that's very unfashionable, but with big cooperation between town and club, because the town use the stadium for their internationally renowned Festival Interceltique concerts, they are going places. By the way, next year they'll be the first French league club to play on an artificial surface - means they can play even more of the passing game Gourcuff loves, if he's still there to oversee it.

I were on the PSG - Lorient match earlier this year. Gameiro scored one goal, and Lorient won 3-0 away to PSG(!!)

He looked great, and was a brilliant finisher. Would love to see him in Rovers, but the price would be enormous. He might even be called up to France World Cup squad.
