Just imagine the difference Darren Bent would have made to us this season.. Would be 8th minimum!

Just what chances would he have scored from? Or to put it in another way; how many long balls from our defenders do you think he would have managed to suck in?

I'd take a decent central midfielder before Bent every day of the week.

There's no way of knowing which chances he woudl have scored because the games would have been completely different if the opposition had had to cope with him every week.

You think we would score more goals with a decent midfielder supplying our current two prolific strikers, than with Darren Bent in our current squad?

I don't.

Gumboots for a woman you are quite well educated in football, exactly, they would have played the balls into the channels and on the floor, sometimes over the top but opponents would have had to sit much deeper to deny Bent 'grass' behind the defence, in doing so, that would create space in midfield, we havent got a Bent or a Bellamy with electric pace, maybe Olssen is the closest and he now is becoming a threat, pace up front as well would, I am sure see a change in Sams tactics!

Darren Bent can make his own chances, something we seem to be short of. He would also have taken plenty of the missed opporunities by others. No doubt about it! How many has he bagged this season for a similar level team?

Shame for him & England if he isnt with the squad in SA.

Heard a small rumour that Nelsen maybe moving to Australia in the summer. Maybe that could be the reason for the captains job.

I read an article a few months ago where an Australian team wanted to bring him in, but I assumed it was just wishful thinking.

I certainly found it interesting that Samba retained the captaincy even when Nelsen returned to the side, whether or not that's related I have no idea, maybe with Nelsen here or not he sees Samba as the long term successor. If anything I think the captaincy has had a positive influence on Samba, where as with some players it can be seen as a burden.

The above signings would set us back £17 million (give or take- remember we also need a striker). We can fund this

Haha, it looks like a posting by some kid who played too much football manager!

I think if we're lucky, Sam might be given 3 to 4m plus sales.

I watched an online chat with Ryan t'other day, and he seemed pretty adamant that he would only be moving to play for Wellington Phoenix (the NZ based team) in the A-League after his contract had ended, which stall had another two years to run.

I reckon Sam may well give the arm band to Samba next season as it's settled his head to no end. Ryan won't mind I'm sure, and I wouldn't see it as a back handed way to get him out the club. Players who are leaders are leaders whether they are the captain or not!

Besides which, you can have a club captain who represents you to the media etc and an on field captain. This tends to happen when the club captain does not play every game because of agee, injury or whatever. Nelsen talks well and represents the club well. Keep him in that role and let samba be captain on the pitch, as he'll play mor often than not.

I see Zurab has come out and said he'd like to move to Reading full time.

Trouble is, they don't have any money.

How about a swap with Jobi McAnuff?

That's a very good call------email Sam quick!

My favourite bits are definitely the ridiculous prices he quotes for no-mark players. Sure, let's spend £4-5 million on a League Two player!!! One who is free in the summer, too. (Interesting that Stanley reportedly turned down a six-figure sum for him in Jan...I've suddenly lost sympathy for their financial situation if they will do that on players out of contract in the summer) £8 million for Nicky bleedin' Maynard, £2 million for a 32-year old Ian Harte...what a joker!

The poster on BBC 606 must surely be on drugs! Those players are average at best. Ian Harte.......haha!!

I love how certain people try to guess our transfer budget with made up figures and surmising on this and that. Nobody actually knows what needs taking care of before new recruits are purchased apart from JW.

Safeguarding the existence of our club is much more important.

On a different note are other people's external links opening in a new tab and the current page? Mine seem to be since this morning.

,

Wellington Pheonix ;) Clubs are now allowed two marquee players, they hoped Nelsen would be one of them next season.

My link

Its 1 Australian Marquee (no we wont take Grella :P), and 1 non Australian marquee for next season. We have had enough problems getting our franchise renewed, since we are in a different confederation, that I cant see us trying to push for a NZ'der to count for us as an 'australian' marque any time soon. When he decides to come home, im sure he will play for us for a few yrs before hanging up his boots.
