The poster on BBC 606 must surely be on drugs! Those players are average at best. Ian Harte.......haha!!

I love how certain people try to guess our transfer budget with made up figures and surmising on this and that. Nobody actually knows what needs taking care of before new recruits are purchased apart from JW.

Safeguarding the existence of our club is much more important.

On a different note are other people's external links opening in a new tab and the current page? Mine seem to be since this morning.

have been for some time. caught me out a few times before i realised i had to go back on the original page and no just close the tab

Its 1 Australian Marquee (no we wont take Grella :P), and 1 non Australian marquee for next season. We have had enough problems getting our franchise renewed, since we are in a different confederation, that I cant see us trying to push for a NZ'der to count for us as an 'australian' marque any time soon. When he decides to come home, im sure he will play for us for a few yrs before hanging up his boots.

The article says two none Australian not me.

"Pignata said the Phoenix could "put it to the FFA" that the provision be extended to New Zealanders in "a Ryan Nelsen/Chris Killen situation" if the two All Whites wanted to end their careers at home.

"But, at the moment, we don't have a marquee player, so they could potentially come back as a marquee player, regardless," he said.

:tu::tu::tu:

Darren Bent can make his own chances, something we seem to be short of. He would also have taken plenty of the missed opporunities by others. No doubt about it! How many has he bagged this season for a similar level team?

Shame for him & England if he isnt with the squad in SA.

I really don't think he can. He's strong and a poacher, but I don't see any "electrifying pace" or ability to create something out of nothing. This is of course very much a theoretical debate, but I don't think he would have been as profilic playing for us as he has been playing for Sunderland at all sadly.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but apparently Allardyce is looking at Bernard Mendy. He's on a free, as his contract has a clause saying he can leave if relegated.

I'll tell you, he'd be a good player for Rovers IF Allardyce could keep him motivated. Not many people have been able to do that. He's very hit and miss. One game he'll tear Liverpool to shreads on the wing, the next game against Wolves he'll look half-arsed, won't run or use his pace, even though he can and has pace to burn.

So Mendy could be Chimbonda No2 then?

Same hairstyles too

Mendy has the pedigree to be a great player, it's only 25% of games he chooses to show it though.

His defending is very suspect at times too. Play him right-wing, with his pace he'll do well... when he can be bothered to run. Think he got 9 assists last season in the Prem, so not too bad. Not been in favour as much this season.

I think we can all agree that you always build a team from the back.

Sam has got our defence sorted, it just needs a little TLC to blend them and to sort out the silly mistakes that have always resulted in goals being conceded.

His next priority is the central midfield position and to try and get a player who can run, pass and tackle. The players for me who would fit that criteria and who could easily be within our budget are :

Sidwell

Reo Coker

Noble.

Each of the above would fill the central spot, each has skill, pace, creativity, a nasty streak and all can score goals.

The front line is then the next priority. We need someone who can score goals regularly.

I dont think Dindane or Piqionnie are the answer, neither is Benjani. Rovers need a young, fast striker OR an older head to play up front with Niko. I dont know much about the Polish lad but it would seem he is out of touch anyhow. Roberts is a good back up striker and should be kept seeing as we dont seem to be buying di Santo. I would have a look at foreign strikers as an option, there are sure to be some bargains.

I know SA doesnt seem to want to go down the loan road again, I think he may have to rethink because money wise, Rovers are going to have to spend and complement the current squad with signings that can progress the team rather than just cement our current standing.

There is course a supply line to look at, we all know strikers cant score without a supply. If MGP isnt the man then who will be ?

I am certain things will start moving in the next few weeks.

Sunderland are after the Egyptian we looked at a few times, at least according to SkySports they are anyway.

Shame. I've only seen him a few times but he looks like a useful player and fits within our price range.

I can't remember what happened to him in regards to us, I'm sure nicko said we were pretty close to a deal at one stage, or at least were tracking him pretty heavily.

Skysports makes it sound as though Sunderland is almost a done deal so I guess ultimately we didn't want him, he could have turned us down I guess but can't see that Sunderland is much more of an attractive option, although Quinn is probably throwing the cash around again.

Maybe it was work permit problems? He's more established now, maybe we should hijack the bid! Could be a cheap Pedersen replacement? I know little about him other than the England game but he looks like a versatile attacking player, maybe we're missing out, who knows? Not me, says I.

It certainly is tricky this buying players lark...

What we have to spend is anyone's guess but I can't see us spending much more than 5-6m combined on at least 2 players. For that kind of money you're almost always going to have to look at player with a poor fitness record that other teams are ready to give up on(Maybe Grella falls into this category, although he wasn't cheap!), unproven players (Like N'Zonzi, Samba, Nelsen) or players past their peak who may be able to still do a job (Salgado).

The key is making sure that the manager and scouts do a good job and we get more of the players mentioned above and less of the Fowler's and Rigters.

I'd be surprised if we buy anyone this year that any of us have heard much about, let's hope there are some untapped gems being watched and they turn out all right.

Things seem to have gone a bit quiet at the moment, I guess they always are when the transfer window isn't even open yet :D

Nicko, any idea where we are up to with the Dindane deal?. Are we still talking to his agents?. Are Lens likely to reduce their asking price?. It seems as though they are asking 2.7M,which is only a little over what we can pay for him. I also saw another article that said Wolves would get him for 2M am a bit confused what fee exactly do they want for him?. They surely can't quote 2 clubs 2 different prices. Quite confusing this deal.

I wouldn't think Joe Ledley's future will be decided untill Cardiff's play offs are finished, although even if Cardiff get to The Prem League, I would think he would find Blackburn a better side to play for than Cardiff in the top league.
