[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Recommended Posts

As usual, if we were to sell Samba for a huge amount of money, there would be very little of it used to strengthen the rest of the team.

Would be a lot more available this offseason than in the past tbh. Last offseasonwe badly needed to balance the books after having wasted money on hiring and then sacking Ince and his staff, finishing far below what we budgeted for, and not slashing the wage bill. So that's where most of it "disappeared". Now we have done that, and this season we'll be finishing above where we budgeted for and had a bump in attendances, plus the Benni money. Not sure if the increased TV money kicks in now or next year, but that could add to it as well.

Now it still wouldn't be 100% of what we receive; loyalty payments, signing bonuses, agent fees etc etc, but my point is that we'd get a lot more than we've been getting in the past couple of offseasons. I'd be surprised if it was less than 75%.

That being said, we shouldn't sell him. For some reason, it seems like he's not attracting the interest you'd expect, and I don't see anyone paying the kind of daft money we'd need to sell. The way we all rate him so highly, you'd think that there'd be more both speculation (From fans and media) and actual interest though, wouldn't you? I'm curious to find out why that may be...

im not sure any striker, apart from maybe Zigic, Janko or a Crouch type player being able to be effective as a lone striker, and scoring goals. There are strikers, who feel comfortable playing as a lone striker, and then you get those who struggle. Imo, we can play the 4-5-1 formation, but we need to get a goal scoring midfielder in.

My own valuation:

These are valueable assests in our squad:

Robinson £5m

Samba £15m

Olsson £10m+

Jones £10m+

Nzonzi £10m+

Kalinic £5-10m

Smaller fee for these players:

Pedersen is out of contract, no fee.

Grella £1-2m

Roberts £1m

Dunn £2-3m

Andrews £1m

Chimbonda £1-2m

Diouf £1-2m

Givet £3-5m

Rigters free

Brown or Bunn £1m

Jacobsen £1m

No need to sell:

Hoilett, new contract, won't attract anyone

Salgado, no one will pay much for him

Emerton, no one will pay much for him

With Di Santo leaving I can see us getting two strikes in.

Im struggling to understand why you felt the urge to post that, I can’t be bothered to delve into it, just that your valuation on the whole seems totally off.

Icers, the lone striker role is one of the hardest in the game, the lone striker isn’t all about his goals but his assists and general hold up play. Impossible but a Zamora/Cole type figure would slot in a treat into our formation, there must be one guy around who has the right attributes who Sam can mould into the player he wants. But I do agree, the midfield also need to be able to chip in with goals, especially from out wide, its just been a pity that injuries and form have prevented us from having a decent run from them. O’Hara would still be top of my list, along with a loan move for Bullard, two hard workers with quality on the ball (and both English aswell). With Fonzi, Dunn, Emerton and Langazi (or whatever his name is) in the mix aswell it would be a varied midfield with a lot of strengths.

I still believe the club has a lot of deadwood to shift though, and hopefully that can bag us a few quid, but I don’t see a lot of funds released for this summer.

Whatever it takes I really hope that Sam/JW manage to land Lewandowski. IMO he'll be great player for us. As Nicko said, we should find a goalscorer first and then move on from there. For me Lewandowski is that guy. Get him signed up tout suite and then relax over the summer and take our time locating the best midfielder who fits our playing/money/age criteria. A good result against Villa wouldn't do any harm.

I work with a polish lad and he's says that he's a good player! If he is Big Sam 1st choice for the striker target then he should be sign. We should back the manager in this decision! Then wheel and deal after this deal.

Smacks of Marc Janko all over again. You have seen youtube clips of him scoring in a pisspot league, no doubt at a lower level than the Austrian league and you want to blow 4/5 million on him.

Amazing...

Got to agree, if the player is Sams number one striker then its got to be despite my criticisms of the capabilities of Polish players in general.

Lev-an-off-ski !!!

bring it on Sam and JW.

Edit on the post from neophox

What i think there worth/ what they would sell for

Samba £8m/ £10m+

Olsson £4-6m/ £6m

Jones £3m/ no idea!

Nzonzi £6m/ £8m+

Kalinic £6m/ £7m+

Roberts £1m/ £2m

Pretty pointless post, but the figures weren't too stupid imo

Some of us have actually seen him play and on top of that I've seen him score goals in international games.

a) David Healy scores goals at international level it means sweet fa

B) You have seen him play, in the polish league... I saw Andrews at MK Dons, he was like their Roy Keane, doesn't make him any good at a higher level.

Were Dortmund and Genoa sniffing around Andrews at MK Dons?

Lewandowski is the type of player we need to sign. Young with lots of potential. If he already played in one of the top leagues, we wouldn't be able to afford him. It's that simple

Ah right, because two European powerhouses like Dortmund (where he wouldnt be first choice) and Genoa (where he would be around 4th choice) make him a wonder striker?

Its not really as simple as that is it now?

He is plying his trade in the Polish league scoring a fair amount of goals and people talk as if we are missing out on signing the next Ronaldo. Ive got nothing against the lad, he looks half decent but this stuff like "a young alan shearer" "he has great potential" blah blah blah is insane. And not blow the majority of our budget on someone who could well flop like Kalanic slaps of stupidity to me.

I don't know why managers throw numbers about like that...it never works out that way.

About as much use as an exit poll at an overcrowded polling station.

last nights exit poll ended up being unbelievably accurate.........so just the 2 players then
