[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

Someone who works at the club says that Brockhall is the big issue!!!

I thought that might be a problem. I wonder how much of the club's original 130 acre parcel (there were 260 acres in the total purchase) still belong to the club. I always had a suspicion that the Brockhall Academy & Training Ground reorganization of a few years ago was about stealing land for Brockhall Village Limited, which made up the other 130 acres, minus 60 of course for the 5 twelve-acre, mansion inhabited lots reserved for certain individuals.

Ah, thanks Drog. I didn't know much of the history of the place, except that it was once a mental hospital.

Dunny has a mansion down near the Academy I believe. Darn great place with more bathrooms than you can shake a stick at so I am given to understand!

So basically the inmates really are running the asylum these days.

Wiki says he lives down there, as a well known/influential resident, I was guessing it would not be one of the four bedroomed detached.

It is rumbling that something will come out in the next week.

The club are worried about the season ticket sales, lack of signings and how close we are to the start of the season.

Lack of signings and being close to the season isn't really telling us anything that the club and Sam haven't already said.

However - your qoute that the club are worried about ST sales is somewhat at odds with what other posters are saying. How reliable is your source of information ?

Wasnt their some clause around any takeover limiting the use of the land which was owned around Ewood & Brockhall?

Didnt that cider fella say something (the one with the link to Dan Williams) around that? Cant remember exactly but im sure he mentioned something!

I have always had very good links with the club. Everyone has been extremely silent of late but amazing what can be achieved with a little alfresco dining. Clue in there.

Im not sure it will be major news but expect some movement.

That is what is frustrating me, maybe I am just being impatient - there appears to be an on-going silence and surely something has to be said soon - appreciate that things may be delicate.

Surprised we've not had Sam moaning publicly yet, even though his last comments were on wanting any takeover to happen quickly.

I am not sure if this is what you mean

Secondly, the view that Plainfield took was that this represented a chance for steady growth over a 5-year period of 15-20% in value, given that the club owned land (Brockall) that would appreciate - oh how we missed that particular storm - and there was potential for development in and around Ewood. The idea was to develop the Riverside Stand in to a three tier (to match the ground) multi-use facility with a similar seating capacity but increased revenue potential from the other uses (retail, office, leisure were all considered). Oh and through a friend of either Plainfield or I think maybe even Williams, there was a preliminary discussion with Tescos about them buying part of the car part behind the away end to build a Tesco Express maybe (not sure if I have the brand right, we don't have Tescos here but I think I am right in saying Williams knew a guy who was best friends with Lord McLauren/McLaurrin???)

Hope the posts I made were open, forthright and help re-assure that John Williams is an honest man, the club is well run and able to both keep genuinely interested parties engaged professionally and also maintain privacy and decorum, and that not every American financial institution is entirely made up off asset stripping assholes (or arseholes as I am now inclined to say) looking for either a quick buck or a bail out. Even those just involved on the periphery have developed genuine affections for Rovers - we see you as the Oakland Athletics of England (look it up, it's a compliment though trust me ) and there was no intent at any time to do harm to the club on this side or that of the trustees - Ewood, Brockall were safe, indeed only development planned was at the ground to improve it - and there would have been limited funds to strengthen the actual team, nothing Chelsea/Man City-esque, as stated at the time, but enough.

Just been looking for some info on Brockhall and stumbled on an old editorial by Insider media Ltd, from 2004. It's based on 99 questions to be answered by certain clubs.

I wonder if anyone else can confirm this

I doubt they got their answers.

Below are the three relevent ones.

Edited.

Mark has advised the Walker family trusts, Flybe's majority shareholders, since 1996. A Chartered Accountant, he spent 10 years in the venture capital industry and since then has gained wide experience in the IT, property and leisure sectors. Mark has been involved with Flybe for 12 years and has worked closely with the Group Board throughout that time. He was appointed Deputy Chairman in 2005.

76 Who, apart from Mark Chown, are the trustees of the J Walker BRFC Settlement?

77 When did Mark Chown's disqualification from acting as the director of a company end?

78 Will he or any of the other trustees, or a representative of BRFC Investments Ltd, incorporated in the Channel Islands, be joining the board of the football club at some future point?

Lost of interesting points, some have been brought to light long before my time on this board, apologise in advance if so.

Sorry if this has already been flagged up. I've only been able to get very brief access to the site over recent weeks. But didn't someone say the interest from the Thai consortium had been dropped in favour of another club outside the top flight?

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/144300/Football-Lines/

So recently out of admin, Championship Leicester have been bought for more than Rovers are currently valued at? :(

Four key points:

The worst kept secret in the Championship- the Leicester takeover has been a done deal for something like two months but it still has not yet resulted in a formal transfer of ownership. People hoping for a quick transfer at Ewood are highly likely to be disappointed- even with the best will in the world, these things are not simple.

The Leicester acquisition involves different individuals from Thailand to the ones looking at Rovers although they are all friends apparently.

The John Williams piece in the LT hopefully puts the lid on this nonsense that the club has simply given up on trying to bring in new players this summer.

Probably the most important comment John Williams makes is to say that talks are continuing on the club sale. I had swung to the view that the likelihood of a take over by the consortia who are publicly known to be in the chase had dropped to close to zero. However, even though things are still alive, the way this is all going points to this takeover being no slam dunk and I suspect most Rovers supporters are going to be disappointed once the novelty has worn off.

I agree that the comment about the takeover is important. Even when your mate Dan Williams was in the mix (or not, who knows ?) he didn't mention anything about having an alternative list ready just in case the takeover does go through and funds are made available.

It seems like they have already discussed potential transfers with the potential new owners if\when the takeover happens.

Whether or not player targets are being discussed is a very moot point.

The involvement of Chrs Nthnl in the Saurin group might suggest that he would like to get hold of Rovers' buying policy to the benefit of his own clients- watch for Ussain Bolt turning up at Ewood!

However, John Williams was remarkably silent when the Dan Williams bid hit the press (the reason being, the Trust had already rejected it before the story broke and Dan Williams was probably using the press to build pressure in his favour) whereas now we have had two if not three references from the club publicly to there being "serious interest".
