[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Not holding my breath. Havn't they just spunked five BILLION on some Brazillian planes for a small airline?

If you mean 'haven't they just invested £850 million in new planes for Europe’s largest regional airline', then yes, yes they have.

No idea what it has to do with football, mind.

Mate, you'd be happy if rovers got took over by some headcase, borrowing tonnes and paying stupid wages to toss pots who don't give a monkeys about the club. We're here in the premiership, and this has been done by shrewd changes and investments at the right time in the right players....we'll always be this way and I for one am happy getting the odd semi-final, perhaps a europa league place isn't out of the question...We will go to the wall just like portsmouth did if we spend stupid money on crap that's swilling around at the monent....I'm troubled by your attitude....are you a rovers fan? If not, then why do you care...?

Is that a trick question??

no, I just can't understand this shyte stirring that he comes out with all the time. If we've no coin, thats fine by me and I'm a rovers fan...

`Nicko` is Alan Nixon who is a journalist that works for Mirror group newspapers. You will find his articles in the sunday people. If i remember correctly he is actually a Partick Thistle fan.He comes on here to give us snippets of info so he doesn`t have an agenda against Rovers,he just delivers what he hears that`s all.

if the takeover does not happen in time for this windows, i feel it could be to late, as we could just be spending money in January buying average players at far to high a price just to stay up.

This take over is taking so long it feels like im waiting on a panda to give birth

Panda Watch. The mood is tense; I have been on some serious, serious reports but nothing quite like this. I uh... Ching... King is inside right now. I tried to get an interview with him, but they said no, you can't do that he's a live bear, he will literally rip your face off.

Feel free to elaborate.

Gav,

Whats so different about the next two seasons than the last 8 or 9?

If the money gap continues to widen, it will simply make the teams coming up even more likely to go down, 9 teams have shorter odds than us this season to go down.... never seen a poor bookie!

As long as we can pay top class European wages we will be fine. I'm amazazed transfers still happen to be honest.

Predicting doom because the club is being run sustainable basis is somewhat flawed. I don't agree with your Premier League or bust argument.

the longer this drags on now brings us closer to relegation this season, the manager has publically had a pop over lack of funds . this preseason results are imo showing the players are feeding of the negative vibes as well.

IT NEEDS END OR MENDING NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE....even the dingles bid 4m for a player last month!

I'm happy with the current situation...we have some link to the owners as jack's family are still board members...this is very important in my opinion....ok, we're not going to compete with spurs or everton etc, but we can sure as ell try....

It can only end in tears if we're bought out by some faceless consortium.

seriously mate, how can you be happy with the current situation? nothing we can do about it, but support the team yes.

How old are you lad?....can't you remember us in the 3rd div playing carlisle and gilligham..?

How can I be happy? Simple, we're punching above our weight big time and always have been since jack took over....I for one am grateful for how it is now....You have obviously been spoilt. :angry2:

We aren't punching above our weight. We are an established premier league club with a revenue far greater than most sides in the world, let alone England. This "don't you remember the days..." nonsense is pointless.

60% of that revenue is tied to being in the Premier League Eddie, the TV rights.

What's the point in talking about revenue when most of it goes straight into the player's pockets?

We are punching above our weight. Comparing us to most sides in the world is wholly pointless as we don't compete in their leagues.

The fact is that everyone in this league gets TV money. That cancels out across the system..well actually the bigger clubs get more Sky money but at least the difference isn't so great. However where teams are divided is on things like gate receipts (50,000 paying an average of £40 a game over a season brings in tens of millions more than 25,000 paying an average of £20 a game), merchandising, Champions League money etc etc.

However there's teams who've had much bigger revenue than us over the years (take Newcastle for one) who haven't done nearly as well. Teams which have had similar revenue streams to us who haven't done nearly as well.

Most notably every English league club not in the premier league. We are in an elite group, towards the bottom of it, but still there.

Almost all of the clubs spend the majority of their revenue on wages and, to a certain extent, some of it is our choice.

This little club mentality doesn't help anyone. It isn't 1984. We're a premier league club that regularly finishes in the top 10. Not a tiny club, not a yo-yo club.

None of what you say contradicts the argument about punching above our weight, in fact if anything it supports it.

This is the sad truth of topflight football today...

Most of our money goes towards players who really aren't that good.

But then most mid table players aren't that good.

We've been paying players who are good enough to keep us well away from the relegation places, in fact usually nearer the top half.

So we're not doing too badly.

So we're not doing too badly.

Apart from having nothing to spend on new players, yeah. We have players like Grella, Zurab, and Chimbonda, who are on such high wages that it becomes impossible to shift them. Don't forget Pedersen is on an £8m deal, because someone thought it was clever to give him an increased wage AND an extra four years. That'll be more money flushed down the drain, which could have beeen invested into new talent. Oh well, it's only money.

It's not completely pointless as the Premiership money enables us to pay significantly higher wages than in many other Leagues.

.........and the tax laws in our country completely negate this.

Firstly - the teams we're directly competing with can also pay these significantly higher wages.

Secondly - as has already been said - this is negated by the new 50% tax bracket.
