[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

You would have to consult a tax specialist on that one!

I am intrigued as to where the talk of the £300m came from, whether it's from the papers or Mr Syed himself. Perhaps part of an investment proposal that was included along with the alleged bid, since it's obvious that figure is far greater than what it takes to buy the club itself.

Me too until I applied some lateral thinking. It's obviously the cost of buying ourselves, Burnley, Preston, Blackpool and Wigan lock stock and barrel and forming one club from the lot of them....'Northern Alliance UK'. As I've pointed out once or twice previously it really is the only way forward for every one of the above clubs. :tu:

Good that the LT are covering this tomorrow, despite what people say about Cryer and the LT, they do have extremely good links with the club so hopefully they can deliver some good coverage tomorrow.

No problems, pleasure to be able to provide some news on all of this.

I have been told quite a lot about this new bid but unfortunately I can't divulge any of it on here, they have asked that the information is kept off the record for the time being, going to respect that, which will mean that they will let me know of developments as they happen and hopefully means more news for this site.

Personally, I think that this group are moving fast but that Saurin Shah's group are also sill talking to the club, they seem to believe that they made good progress last week. In addition to this I get the inkling that there is third interested party, don't know who they are at the moment, other than there has been a US consortium sniffing around the club for the last 8 months or so.

The thing about this new group is that there is a lot of information out there about Mr Ali and their PR team is very slick, it doesn't mean that they are better than the other bidders but it does create a good impression, also one thing that I can say about Mr Ali is that he has access to considerable financial resources, hopefully can say more about this soon. Whereas with Saurin Shah's group there is not much information out there and therefore it is hard to evaluate who they are and what they have to offer, it could be that they do have some seriously wealthy backers, but judging by the amount of time it has taken to get any sort of agreement I would say that they have not convinced the Trust that they have the finance in the long term, also the latest activity makes it likely that Mr Shah's group will be told to put up or shut up.

One thing that I will say is that if the club is not sold this time round then it is likely that it will not be sold in the near future.

It is only some wierd parallel universe where a potential £300m of investment is considered a negative development.

Bizarre.

Wow! Why didn't I think of that before DGS? You have explained the "Theno Mystery" Now I see it all : Theno is some weird alien creature from another Universe that keeps popping into our World through some wormhole known only to him, and giving us all the "benefit"(???) of his vastly superior knowledge on a whole range of subjects and constantly rebuking and reminding us that "we need to think things through" and that none of us ever gets anything right (well not without his help that is).:)

We live in interesting times, it is difficult from our limited viewpoint to understand how this will turn out but there is more evidence around Mr. Ahsan Ali Syed than Mr Shah.

As to whether there is adequate funding? Well, we have no choice but to trust the Trust to select the right buyer, so far they have demonstrated real patience, set a realistic price and generated some substantive interest. They, and Rothschilds are holding the key to Rovers future. Am I hopeful, yes, am I fearful, to be truthful no. The Trust have recognised that now is the time for them to step aside. Football has changed dramatically since our beloved Jack passed away and for Rovers to step onwards we do need a new business model.

What I think will be critical is that any prospective new owners have a solid and intelligent business plan. The way to make money from football is to develop the brand and new markets. The Middle East, the sub-continent and the Far East need to be opened to a Blue and White brand - why not?

There is also room for a radical way to develop young footballers for the future. That is particularly true here in England.

If there is a way to build a wider fan base, well all is good, just look after our ticket pricing please!

So let us be hopeful not fearful. If the club is sold, thanks must be given to the Walker family and the Trust for supporting the Rovers. If not we will continue.

Just to update you: in tomorrow's newspaper (Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley edition), the potential Rovers takeover will be on the front page and back with more insight from the key players in the potential takeover bids.

Should have been in the rag today though Den, just goes to show the paper has no credibility whatsoever and I won’t be buying.

You can't emphasize that enough. The last thing I want to see is the owners trying to buy short-term success and paving the way for a revolving door of mercenaries sucking us dry and the club having to deal with the fallout. I don't think we would see this youth project happen with a manager like Big Sam at the helm, because he doesn't have much interest in blooding young players. If anything, our current crop have been forced on to him due to the restricted finances, and the advice from his backroom staff. During his time at Bolton & Newcastle, he was too busy wheeling and dealing to take a chance on youngsters. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, we'll find a manager who will share this vision.

Bloody hell, forced on him or not, at least he is blooding them!

How do you know he doesn't share the vision?

How do you know the crop of youngsters at his previous clubs were any good?

Give the guy a break!

Are you serious? You expect the powerful brokers, agents from London to leak it to the Lancashire Telegraph. They went to the Daily Telegraph's chief sports writer - seems fair enough to me. I believe the LT's deadline is now 9.30pm so how were they expected to get that in the paper. Or are you expecting Rovers to leak that? Honestly?

I expect the likes of the mirror, the sun and all the others, including LT, to follow up in tomorrow's paper.

The mirror may depend on if a certain person responds to their alarm clock or not.

1. Like I said, he doesn't have much option in our position. With a wider cheque book, I doubt we'd have seen much of our young stars.

2. Because Sam is a notorious wheeler-dealer, who only wants a few more years in the PL. I doubt he's thinking of much long term when it comes to Rovers.

3. Sam has bought a lot of dross, over the years, to find his gems. You're telling me neither of those teams had young players who could have stepped in?
