[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

Agree--can't wait, the sooner the better in my view.Pity it can't be in time for the current transfer window.Still if it goes ahead there should be a few Rovers players performing out of their skulls because they'll have to impress to stay. Are you listening MGP?!!!!!

Oh dear....we seem to be getting carried away.

Just out of curiosity is the 20 million debt to the trustees for the loans they gave us every year or is it to the banks?

Mainly overdraft.

The trust need to be realistic....£45m including debt is surely enough for something they inherited!?

Hopefully they dont price us out of a sale by getting greedy if they see 4 potential buyers lurking.

You really do talk utter rubbish sometimes!

The Trust has owned Rovers for all of these past 19 years- they acquired their interest by subscribing to £25m of new shares in the club in 1991.

The Trust has put about £60m of cash in since Jack died and written off £100m+ of debts by converting them into shares. Currently there is £5m from the Trust paid into the club in interest free loans.

Ha Alonso anyone?! Spurs to finish above United last season?! I could go on.....

You dont see it do you...it doesnt matter if they put £100m in, they got it all from Jack anyway!!

Still utter rubbish. The Trustees receive nothing apart from their administration fee.

Well why don't you "go on"?

Football is a business, and I'd wager Philips business head is a hell of a lot more useful than yours (no offence).

We could all throw up the same old crap about season ticket sales and your contacts etc, but quite simply we have better things to do with our time.

And on the subject of getting it all from Jack anyway, they've invested in and continued to grow his other assets such as Flybe which actually makes a profit for them. They could have cut us adrift a long time ago for next to nothing, but they've chosen to back us as best they could for little or no return and if they can claw back some of this "investment" to help the rest of Jacks legacy, then why the hell shouldn't they?

Ok, enough with the cheap shots at Hughesy (chasing rep points).

The fact is, for all the good they've done (and it is a lot), we are still high in debt! An issue which keeps being trotted out when we can't buy good players and have to sell our best ones!

as opposed to beimg a real miserable tw*t!!! :tu:

no mate, just being a realist....no need for that it there...

In my opinion this needs to be a slow burner...organic growth still, but with an element of splashing out on the right player....I dont subscribe to the Citeh way.

Did The Guardian have the Syed story at the same time as The Daily Telegraph?

May sound like a small point...but if someone from the Syed group leaked to TWO posh papers there is definitely a publicity plan going on here.

Ah well, back to looking for strikers in the meantime.

Are you serious? You expect the powerful brokers, agents from London to leak it to the Lancashire Telegraph. They went to the Daily Telegraph's chief sports writer - seems fair enough to me. I believe the LT's deadline is now 9.30pm so how were they expected to get that in the paper. Or are you expecting Rovers to leak that? Honestly?

I expect the likes of the mirror, the sun and all the others, including LT, to follow up in tomorrow's paper.

My dad used to buy the sports pink at the paper shop near the Aqueduct pub before the game had finished back in the 70's/80’s and they had the days results printed in them, so don't talk to me about 9.30pm deadlines :P

On a more serious note the Telegraph is a poor paper, and if the local Rovers reporter had any credibility whatsoever he’d have been the first to know about such events from his man inside the club!

Just to defend the local paper, by the way...

The Syed leak definitely came from his PR people to a couple of national papers.

I think that took the club by surprise - and may explain why they were not briefed ahead of the story coming out.

Got to say the 'off the record' word I am getting from some is that this one has a long way to go before it happens.

There is understandable scepticism in high places although this Syed fella does seem to have finances behind him.

However the time it would take to get this through, sort out issues like who would run the club and pass Fit and Proper tests make it a long-drawn-out one at best.

What if this Syed bloke said for the club to continue running as it is, with the same people - i.e JW and Syed would just be the financial backing - could that not speed up any process. After all a few people on this message board have been able to work out where syed got his money from etc. It appears that it is a lot easier for Syed to show his money than the other Indian group.

I presume Syed puts his own people in to run his businesses...trying to find out who that might be...have my suspicions.

Silly question - or maybe not - would he get a work permit to come here himself?

Why would he want to? He has other investments and I am sure the tax rate in Bahrain is far more favourable than England. That being said, if he did want to come he would have to get a visa not a work permit, since there would be no 'employer' sponsoring the work permit I believe. He would qualify for the entrepreneur/investor visa I think, which mostly requires demonstration of sufficient investment in England over a certain period of time. Obviously buying Rovers would be sufficient.

By those comments are you eluding that JW may be out the door if these people purchase our club??? Or are you referring to managers???

Don't suppose you can name your suspicions over who this chaps football advisor is?? PM??
