[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

I was speaking to my Indian friend about the proposed takeover, and he mentioned that for some reason unbeknown to him, Blackburn Rovers shirts very often make appearances in Bollywood movies. He said he wouldn't be surprised if our brand really took off in India, as we are already well known.

I didn't know about this at all

Or he is true because you yourself admit you've seen kids playing in Rovers shirts?..........

I dont think anyone expects every indian kid to own a Rovrs shirt, but the fact that they have appeared in

Bollywood films suprised me, and if the takeover goes through it could be something the potential owner looks

to build on...

Future sponsor? Pataks? Uncle Bens! :D

No not true i meant there have been no Indian films(famous ones) atleast in the last 10 years where a rovers is shown except for 1 where these girls wear shirts from all teams in the PL. other than that never.

And the kids I was referring to are street kids who have probably found these old rovers jerseys somewhere, im sure they don't even know one player in the squad, or even what teams jersey they are wearing

As I said earlier the potential for the team is huge in India. The EPL is ever growing however currently there is no reason for a common man there to support us, there are about 4-5 Games shown live every week, they are ALWAYS Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and one of Tottenham or Man City(may change next season). The point I am making is when ever anyone watches us its only playing against these teams and lets admit it, Our football isn't the most exciting. There is no news about any of our signings or anything bar maybe a small box in the middle of the sports section. Therefore If an Indian man did own us, it would definitely create more exposure and someone those so called Manchester United, Liverpool fans would have at least a reason to be interested in watching and following us.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai- 1998, there is a bloke wearing a CIS red away shirt in a very popular song, I am sure there are others I have seen too.

Sorry I stand corrected,(I did mention in the last 10 years though) But hes not really the main guy just in the crowd, and the jersey doesn't have the Blackburn sign or logo on it just the colors. and its the home kit.

I remember sending him an email around the time that Paul Ince was taking us down, about three weeks before he eventually got sacked. He sent me a fairly lengthy and considered reply back in person the next day.

I'm confused TGM. Why would you write to Tom Finn about that? He's about 10th down the BRFC list of influence and lower than JW even.

£300m is for the long term - 10 years? - at £30m a year wouldn't be way to Champions League.

If the investment is a long term plan to see us constantly challenging for a top 6 position which is achievable, then that would be a far better business model than a crash and burn approach of investing heavily to try to get immediate success and the money evaporating rapidly.

Whatever term any 'investor' demands a return. There is no such thing as a free lunch. So unless Ewood or Brockhall is sitting on an undiscovered oil field just how do you think anybody would manage to get any sort of return on that level of investment from BRFC?

Why would anyone in their right mind buy a football club?

Correct! A very very good source from long Prem employment reckons all most of these Carlos Kickaballs once they have signed a Prem contract is beat a path to Harley St in order to get a debilitating injury diagnosed formally so that they can then pretend injury for as long as possible simply to stay injury free and not risk curtailing their career through proper injury.

I'm sure a few names spring readily to mind. <_<

The crucial factor is they are playing Burnley twice next season... and we are not.

That factor alone is worth about £35m a year.

How big a hole do you want to dig Hughesy?

Just to get a bit involved in this...

Let's say Leicester are promoted this season, what are they valued at in 12 months time? City club, good stadium, good sports city, fairly large catchment area. Would I rather put my money into a club already in the premier league? Yes. In terms of an actual investment though it's the sort of gamble that could actually make you money.

Are there any covenants on the training ground / Brockhall's land that restrict further development? Given the house prices on there maybe that's where the finance return is seen to be made from. Maybe the publicity of owning an EPL team is so great that its worth investing £30m a year, or maybe not... Not quite sure about these latest developments. I know we are a sound investment and would be happy for anyone with a few quid to come in, but it also helps to see what the "true" motive is. If its to invest in the team/brand and sell on at a better price then great, just don't want a new owner who wants to milk the cashflow. I wait for further developments with great interest.

The odds against Leicester being promoted are 4/1 against at the moment. So could you sell Leicester as a Premier League club for £160m?

And answering the post immediately above, there are covenants over all Rovers' land with Brockhall Village preventing any further residential development.

I'm equally confused drog. Why would you not write to the Chief Executive of the business? He may be behind Trust and other Board members in the pecking order but he is the second in command of the executive management team - it's either Tom or John Williams you write to - anyone else and they will just pass it to Tom or John to reply anyway.

I just had to comment that is priceless Jisty would you like to expand on what a Huang/Guang/Yang gang bang is? :D I thought it was a Chinese house of ill repute? what has that got to do with buying a footy club? no doubt all the Brothels in Liverpool will be having a field day with this! :D Maybe when they are asked to provide proof of funds they will go to the brothels of Liverpool and ask for their accounts! . Never fear if any of the individuals buying Rovers has anything dodgy about them I am sure the Walkers/Rothschilds will not sell to anyone sorry but I could not resist a joke.

A little misleading. Leicester has a bigger population and a bigger hinterland for support than us of course but similar to us they have a massive immigrant population, too many of whom probably either profess to be scared of setting foot in a football ground or who don't appear to value watching live football enough to pay Prem ticket prices. The problems that both clubs face in attracting support is based more in matters of culture than in simple economics.

Just seems odd. JW would surely be most peoples obvious choice to write to. If anybody wanted to include Tom Finn they could always copy to him. I was always told metaphorically when dealing in business to speak to the chap whose name is over the door. Prob where the old saying comes from re: monkeys and organ grinders.

Do you not think that if Rovers is bought by an Indian gentleman that our catchment area would increase due to social stratification? I mean the big towns around us have quite large Indian populations and it is true that Indian culture is built on sticking together. If Rovers get more play in India, and in the movies that they watch here in the UK, then you would imagine that we may get more fans from other areas also. Just a fraction wanting to see what we are about and giving us a shot would be welcome. Just having a more Indian friendly atmosphere would incite more to come to the ground as it is.

I personally welcome the diversification that the new owners could bring – it would be good for the club and could possibly be great for the town of Blackburn on a socialization level.

It's a possibility. It does appear that Man Utd is attracting plenty whenever there are crowd shots on the telly.

I have noticed that as well, it is either that or the man with the turban is a camera magnet. I feel that if we are bought by him then there would be a general defection towards a club that is actually owned by an Indian – regardless of success. Of course we could never hope the catch them all, with all groups there is glory hunters and town priders. I cannot see how it would be a bad thing however for crowds and support growth, unless the BNP protruding cranium crowd desire to stay away. That would be seen as a good thing as well in my opinion.
