[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

Of course I hope the takeover goes through but I hope we don't change our (enforced)stance of scouring the world for value for money. I'd hate us to be shelling out tens of millions for the likes of the Fletchers and Kenwynne Jones of this world while overlooking the likes of Nelsen,Samba and N'Zonzi

Totally agree. From what we've heard, Mr. Syed isn't looking for fast track success and wants to plan sensibly for the future. I wouldn't like to see us going down the route of Sunderland, Stoke etc. because there's so little value for money when you start splashing the cash. If the new owner could invest a few million back into the squad and helps us reduce the wage bill, we'll be in a far stronger position without jeopardising ourselves.

I hope whoever comes in will assess the pay scale of the playing staff. The 91% wage to turnover rate is too high and drastically needs rescaling. It's laughable how high our wage bill is with the amount of 'quality' on offer at Ewood Park. John Williams should take responsibility for dishing out lucrative new deals like confetti and then having to explain to the manager that he can't shift the deadwood. Zurab, Grella, Andrews, Roberts, Pedersen. All on bumper contracts that they wouldn't get elsewhere.

Incredibly bullish stuff in the LT.

If I'm reading it correctly it is claimed in the LT WGA has 8 billion worth of assets under control and Mr. Syed's personal wealth is estimated at 7 billion.

The thing that made me really sit up and take notice was that if correct that would make him the 4th richest club owner roughly level with Abramovic at 7.8 billion and way ahead of Spurs backer Joe Lewis at 2.5 billion.

And look at how much Spuds spend on players.

Incredibly churlish reaction from that particular cross section of fans:

Aye well, he's might well be coming in and putting 300m of his own money in but he'd better not change anything, we still like to walk t'wippet down t'cobbles at the back.

And he'd better not change t'chairman, or t'manager either!

Is that you at the end Roversmum???

It looked, from a distance, as if there was someone there. I expect others can answer definitively.

Of course there was someone there, there were 26,000 someone's.

Or for that matter not persevering with Olssen or giving Phil Jones a chance. It wouldn't seem us somehow.

I'm not thinking in terms of the Premiership either though i wouldn't knock it back.

A steady improvement, challenging for top 6, never being afraid of relegation, not having to sell our best players to balance the books and winning a Cup every now and then would do me.

I'm feeling very positive about the future of the club for the first time for a long time.

3 points would make it a perfect day.

A good and important post. It would be very easy to use investment to go and buy average players (see O'Neills defensive buys), we should continue to try and bring in the likes of Olssons, Sambas and Nzonzi, but complement these by using the extra funds to bring in top quality.

You just have to look at ANY story in the LT that has comments underneath. It doesn't matter how positive the story is, the first few messages bring you crashing down to earth with crushing pessimism.

For example - 'NEW WONDER DRUG CURES CANCER'

1. I bet the Tories make us pay for it

2. Yeah, we'll see. I bet it only cures certain types of cancer.

3. You can't get the drug if you can't see a doctor and I'm not waiting for 8 hours in A&E

4. I blame the Muslims!

etc, etc Sorry, went on a rant there but it's very vaguely on topic

I know you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth but I think just throwing the doors open and welcoming a new owner with open arms is a risky proposition.

You don't become head of a company with assets worth £7.5 billion by investing in money losing businesses. Without serious changes to the club, we'll never be a profitable enterprise. Our fan base is too small and our ticket prices are far too low.

My concern isn't so much with the prospective new owners, it's with the owners after that. If an investment group buys the club, the chances are they're looking to put some money in, improve the standing of the club and eventually sell it on for a profit. I suspect they'll be less fussy who they sell it to than the Walker Trust are being.

I will be surprised if the acquisition does not happen now but I think getting it done before the window closes is a very very big ask of all the lawyers and accountants if they are going to do their job thoroughly which in the long term is much more important then a couple of impulse buys for silly money on 31 August.

It depends whether both sides have the sort of lead lawyer I had on my first float who somehow managed to do 20 hours per day, 10 days running and still kept a perfect eye for detail whilst deftly co-ordinated all the other professionals. I was putting in 16 hour days (but over a longer period) and I was completely buggered when it was all done.

An article says the new owner would be the 4th richest one in the Premiership? Surely that can't be so?

Absolutely true.

1. Lakshmi Mittal - QPR £18.4bn

2. Sheikh Mansour - Man City £17bn

3. Roman Abramovich - Chelsea £7.8bn

4. Ashan Ali Syed - *Blackburn* £7bn

5. Joe Lewis - Tottenham £2.5bn

6. The Glazers - Man Utd £1.5bn

He has assets worth 7 billion I read, but the list isnt just the prem, I believe that the owner of QPR is the richest.

I think that list that is quoted in the LT is a bit misleading, yes he may have assets over 7 billion but he has already stated his figure of 300 mill investment and we have no idea of over how many years that is or what it will be spent on.

I did read that he had looked at Liverpool to buy but wasnt as impressed at the potential for growth and he seems really happy with the way Rovers have been run over the years.

I think a lot of people are going to be expecting a big budget to spend straight away, however I dont see that being the case nor do I see us neglecting the bargain signings that we have brought on ourselves like Nzonzi and Samba.

I personally would be over the moon with an initial 15 mill for a striker and a ball playing midfielder with a 5-6 mill a year transfer budget, improvements on the youth setup and sort out that old rickety stand

Absolutely true.

1. Lakshmi Mittal - QPR £18.4bn (Not really investing much cash)

2. Sheikh Mansour - Man City £17bn

3. Roman Abramovich - Chelsea £7.8bn (Tightened strings)

4. Ashan Ali Syed - *Blackburn* £7bn

5. Joe Lewis - Tottenham £2.5bn

6. The Glazers - Man Utd £1.5bn (No spare cash)

Not bad eh....a good time to have abit more power.

Good to see him say the Jack Walker legacy cannot be forgotten & must be respected....and also that he wants us to become title contenders again!!

The only thing I want for us is to have the power to keep our players, and continue attracting low-key but potentially good players, as we have all these years. I really, really, really wouldn't want us going after the so-called "world superstars" and becoming as disillusioned as Man City. I'd rather have players that seem to have a firm head on their shoulders, as most of our current squad does. But thankfully the potential investor has said that the money will be spend much more wisely.

Nah... I think our fans have always had their feet firmly on the ground and would continue to do so no matter who the owner was. If there's one club that truly represents northern modesty and demands honest graft it's us. Hopefully that isn't a delusional statement

Problem with City is that they're just an odd bunch of fans. Absolute massochists... yet with this "macho" club attitude.

We don't really need that much investment to hit, for example, the Europa cup spots. How much would just £10m improve our squad? £5m even?

I'd be happy to aim for 6th - 8th every season with an investment of £10m every summer. There's something special about being the underdog that continues to upset, and we are fast becoming that. A £300m fortune should be drip-fed to all corners of the club over a period of years and we can become one of the strongest clubs with the deepest foundations in the country.

However, I know the club is in good hands and look forward with anticipation to the next Chapter...
