Wiggy Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Whilst the commercial team are going through the books I presume that the marketing team are looking at a blank piece of paper. If they could get the most famous footballer in the world to turn out in blue and white halves for half a season, it would raise the profile of Blackburn Rovers higher and faster than the next ten marketing initiatives. The ageing superstar would be an archetypal Allardyce signing. He is still one of the best strikers of a dead ball. The manager would have every set piece from the right pinged into the box, in typical Allargyce fashion. He and his wife love money and any controversey that increases their celebrity. A four month block booking of the bridal suite at Stanley House and even the Walkers' get a slice of the action. Everyone's a winner! Happy days.

jonv Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Closer to a deal being made I'm sure there will be more talk from the bigger news sources. Apart from what's been said and promised by the interested party there's been absolutely nothing confirmed and as quickly as this could go great it could go down ###### creek.
philipl Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I would imagine everyone will start fretting now that they have heard nothing more and that will increase day by day. So far as I am concerned, the less we hear now, the better. There is a huge amount of work to be done and it needs to be done quickly and thoroughly.
Bobby G Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Interesting that the club have confirmed something in a statement.
BPF Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Think I might avoid this messageboard for the next three weeks. Day by day we will see an increase of people's stupidity "It's not happened, Syed is a fraud. Why aren't we hearing anything?" It is going to take up to four weeks, it's not going to be completed for a while yet. I beg people to have patience and not be fools.
Balwer Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I get the impression the club's statement this morning is simply an acknowledgement of the process existing. As philip says the less we hear now the better. T - 28 days (well 27 days actually) as the maximum timeframe and ideally T - 13 or 14 days so we can get some funds in.
den Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 He wants to build a stadium that holds 45000. From the LT, all yesterdays events.
Iceman Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Now its right. No its still not right Maji, you rectified the 6mill bit, but then you still have the bit of not having spent that amount in the last 5 years

It is going to take up to four weeks, it's not going to be completed for a while yet. I beg people to have patience and not be fools. But why hasn't anything happened yet BPF? Surely they must be close to reaching an agreement? Shouldn't Big Sam have a £100m warchest by close of play today? Has Beckham not been seen at Ewood yet?
cn174 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 He wants to build a stadium that holds 45000. From the LT, all yesterdays events. We don't need a 45,000 seater stadium! We didn't fill it when we were the most sucessful team in the country, I can't see us finding an extra 15,000-20,000 fans from somewhere.
Balwer Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Surely we don't need anymore than 32,500? I would like to see the Riverside stand redone but extra capacity is unnecessary. 35,000 would be the absolute maximum, and in that case we'd have to give more away tickets to traveling fans.
koi Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I'm not sure Ewood is the area to have a bigger stadium.
jim mk2 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I note that Mr Syed is only 36. To older eyes, this proposed takeover smacks of the impetuosity of youth and the heart leading the head.
Iceman Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 the stadium, based on averege attendances, should really be made a bit smaller. What i dont get, is the corner, where there is an open space( ithink its in the corner by the Blackburn End, not sure). It makes the stadium look even more empty, than what it already is.

Unless some of the muppets on here get a 15 minute update it will be all "it's not happening" and "Told you so".
G Somerset Rover Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I note that Mr Syed is only 36. To older eyes, this proposed takeover smacks of the impetuosity of youth and the heart leading the head. Surely age is irrelevant here. Abramovich is only 43...
thenodrog Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I'm not sure Ewood is the area to have a bigger stadium. Well it is in the middle of a huge immigrant region stretching to Bradford, Oldham and Preston who might now cultivate a little more interest in proceedings. btw imo Ewood might have been better built on the redundant runways at BAC or near Walton Summit in 1992 in order to have absorbed PNE.

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted August 17, 2010 Moderation Lead Posted August 17, 2010 Nah mate- don't make it smaller, it's fine the size it is. If you sold out every week, then you should think about expansion as if games are a sell-out it indicates that you're turning away potential paying customers, which from a business standpoint is less than good!

So the Trustees should have inserted and Old Giffers only stipulation and instructed Rothchilds accordingly? How old is Abramovich?

Hughesy Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 People are getting hung up on the party line of £100m over 5 year plan too much….that’s his view now – there is nothing to suggest he wont throw more at it. Im pretty sure he has enough liquid cash (going off how he speaks) to spend more if he wishes. City are an awful example – sack a manager every 6-12 months, throw £30m at Milner or £25m at Balotelli – average manager, with a poor set up, with deluded fans & a owner that isn’t really involved. A good example would be some of the players Sam has identified in the past but not been able to afford….Dzeko for £6m (Worth probably 3-4 times that now), Ledwonski (sp), Assualin etc….other good examples being Villa signing Young for £9m, Milner for £7m etc…..Not your £30m signings – that’s where we use ‘our model’ in the market….we buy for £5-10m – sell for £20m+ and use the profit to rebuild further. Maj – agree that sign young English isn’t necessarily the way forward either…the Academy set up in places like India could be key – as effectively we are getting the best local talent (in india) for free too. Obviously a better scouting network is needed, and don’t forget the importance of the French fella who has links with the French FA and therefore should be able to form excellent links on young French talent which is considerably cheaper than young English. An interesting marquee signing for a year or two to raise our profile could be someone like Beckham…..SERIOUSLY imagine if we went on tour of India in pre-season with him in our squad….what interest would that generate?? We would get big fees to play over there, increased sponsorship, increase in merchandise sales etc….. (People will say he wont have an impact, how many LA galaxy shirts did you see before he moved there?!)

Every corner has the same sized open space. You will normally only see that and the Darwen End equivalent which is disguised by the big screen. Reasons for resiting the telly camera's above the Riverside have been gone over many times by the technical and finacial experts but it appears the marketing experts have never been consulted.
Paul Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Paul--your post above is just negativity and pessimism. What do you want to realistically happen? There is no negativity in my post. I have a different point of view from you, sadly you have demonstrated on numerous occassions you seem have problems with tolerating different views. I'd be interested to learn from anyone the following: How will the £300m investment be repaid - including a profit as this is implicit in an investment What will be the size of the wage bill and how will this be funded? Bear in mind please JW is on record as saying Rovers ALREADY have to offer higher wages to attract players How much will the 45,000 seat stadium cost? Where will the additional 20,000 fans come from? How is Ewood to be expanded to that level? If we are to be title contenders again where will the money come from? This means challenging Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, City and Spurs at the very least. an extra 20,000 fans aren't going to turn up as we challenge for a Europa league spot. All we have heard is how wonderful it will be. I have great difficulty in believing much of this, and frankly 45,000 capacity stadium just confirms it for me
HemelRover Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 He wants to build a stadium that holds 45000. From the LT, all yesterdays events. confirms that the memorandum of understanding has been signed yesterday!
