Glenn Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Only Blackburners? Come on, you forget how big an impact Jack's tenure had on the rest of the world. I'm from Melbourne, Australia and now live in London and have supported Rovers since 93. Absolutely. Born in Blackpool, raised in Lancaster, now living in Leeds. Closest I can claim to living in Blackburn is a few nights on JPW's sofa. Doesn't stop having a season ticket, attending a fair wack of away games oh and helping run this place.

chilly Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 The Statement i made about only blackburners, meant mainly. There are handfuls in neighbouring towns but not many. Likewise in the rest of the country and the world for that matter. Doesnt the fact that we have handfuls everywhere give you promise that this could work?that if we start becoming top 6 finishers we can start filling a 40k stadium?
MickeFIN Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Only Blackburn fans from Blackburn?? Here is one gloory hunter from Finland rovers fan since 92:season I never was in ewood and never going away games, and change team when we relegated give me champions league final rovers that less what i need

Doesnt the fact that we have handfuls everywhere give you promise that this could work?that if we start becoming top 6 finishers we can start filling a 40k stadium? We've finished top 6 a fair bit recently, we still had the same crowds as now, if not less as ticket prices were higher. To think about 40k we'll need to be challenging for EUROPEAN success, not just domestic. Only Blackburn fans from Blackburn?? Here is one gloory hunter from Finland rovers fan since 92:season I never was in ewood and never going away games, and change team when we relegated give me champions league final rovers that less what i need Which team did you change to?

There are fair few more Rovers fans than 'just a handful' in the other BB postcode areas outside Blackburn, which was your original point.
Clitherover Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Don't care if success brings us glory hunters, if it fills the stadium i'm happy...
Hughesy Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I read the full post and in my opinion adding the full text wouldn't add any additional context. It would only serve to make the message board more difficult to read. Letting them go for free - why would you do that? It would cost the same and the net result is the player is then unavailable should they be needed (flu outbreak for instance). I think the mutal termination option will have been explored, certainly with Zurab. My point still stands..... Younger players with more ability with a greater potential sell on value...who will demand smaller wages than some of our older heads. Let them go for free so we can get them off our wage bill & improve the ability of our squad....Im sorry but the likes of Zurab, Brown, Jacobsen or Chimbonda, Grella - serve no purpose to us what-so-ever....and flu outbreak?! give it a rest!
AJW Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 For blackburn to achieve 40-45000 attendances would take 1) a david beckham or 2) 10 years continued success winning trophies and competing in europe to capture a new generation of fans and where would this stadium be? i thought re-development of ewood wouldn't be possible?
Ewood and I Would Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Rovers fan from Oxford here! I know at least four others who live here too, including my friend's next door neighbour who is the chairman of the "Southern Rovers Fan Club"...
Hughesy Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 and where would this stadium be? i thought re-development of ewood wouldn't be possible? Ewood - he said redevelopment. Riverside is the obvious project...it can be done, just expensive because of the river behind.
Glenn Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I never was in ewood and never going away games, and change team when we relegated See, I know that's rubbish, I remember meeting you (and your rucksack of vodka) at Gilligham Away, the game after we got re-promoted back to the Premiership. Actually, at Crytsal Palace Away, just before Christmas the same season too.
PAFELL Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Cheers dgs, and like you and me there's heaps of Aussies who support Rovers on this board, as well as Americans and plenty in Asia and the rest of Europe too. Er don't forget there two in the south east uk - Hasting area. Pity not a few more down here as we could hire a coach to go up to ewood.
Glenn Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Rovers fan from Oxford here! I know at least four others who live here too, including my friend's next door neighbour who is the chairman of the "Southern Rovers Fan Club"... Damn it. I have proper work to do, but I now feel compelled to fix Biddy's "Member Map" so people can see just how our membership is spread.
broadsword Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Actually, at Crytsal Palace Away, just before Christmas the same season too. He got chucked out, and so did I!
Glenn Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Damn it. I have proper work to do, but I now feel compelled to fix Biddy's "Member Map" so people can see just how our membership is spread. Hum, I don't know what I did. It wasn't working, I changed nothing and now it is :s http://www.brfcs.com/membermap/
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Well this is my second year as a season ticket holder so I'd say that the Rovers "message" has spread just a little further than Lancashire Been a fan since the promotion season

Eh? We got over 25,000 on average last season. That's only three Asian families short.
A cup of beans Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Which team did you change to? finn harps (of ireland) ??? :lol im excited about the marketing potential in india. if we can get sachin tendulkar and a couple of bollywood actors/ actresses wearing our shirts on bilboards, we'll have cracked it. i can see the indian and asian population of the northwest supporting rovers too. which will be brilliant to see!
modes98 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 To be fair we don't know how much of that he's made on his own and how much was from the vast family fortune to which he's the sole heir. From what I understood the figure of £8bn was the trading value of his company/assets, the issue of his family fortune is completely seperate and isn't included (although someone mentioned a figure in the billions yesterday). I would imagine he will have had financial help to start out his business but regardless to build up such a fortune shows his pedigree and sound decision making.
A cup of beans Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Eh? We got over 25,000 on average last season. That's only three Asian families short. what a cheap shot... (shakes head) :(
tony gale's mic Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Eh? We got over 25,000 on average last season. That's only three Asian families short. Ah..nothing like a bit of mid afternoon casual racism. Moron.
rover the hill Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Eh? We got over 25,000 on average last season. That's only three Asian families short. Well done racist scum!
imy9 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Philip -is it possible for two groups to have access to rovers accounts as plunkett has said?i don't understand why rovers would allow that and only mention syeds group in a press statement.
Billy Castell Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I'd like us not to follow the Man City model if this £100m transfer fund is true. Lobbing daft money left right and centre may make you feel good, but it is as if you had some sort of real life FM data editor, and any achievements will feel less valuable than if you build up the squad wisely, bring in players from the youth team etc. I also hope Sam doesn't waste it on a load of puddings. Mr. Sayed has said things that can make us all excited about his takeover, which sounds like it is chugging along, but I guess Mike Ashley said similar things to the Geordies.
rebelmswar Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Eh? We got over 25,000 on average last season. That's only three Asian families short. We should remember who our potential buyer is. While I am sure your joke was meant as a light hearted dig at Asian family dynamics – it may be this exact thought process that makes Ewood an uncomfortable visit for people of that decent.
