only2garners Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Would be nice if the corners were eventually closed off. Personally I would hate that. I don't like enclosed stadiums where you could be anywhere when you're inside.

Dan Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I am slightly worried about Sam blowing our money on rubbish. Maybe we need someone in to make sure we don't end up buying the Alan Smiths and Joey Bartons of the football world!
BPF Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Would be nice if the corners were eventually closed off. But the poor Riversiders! They love walking up and down the path almost constantly!
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted August 17, 2010 Moderation Lead Posted August 17, 2010 But the poor Riversiders! They love walking up and down the path almost constantly! Especially before the end of the game
Dan Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Personally I would hate that. I don't like enclosed stadiums where you could be anywhere when you're inside. Also, I remember hearing that one if the reasons we have such a lovely pitch is because of having a non enclosed stadium? I like the stadium design as it is, a good traditional football ground, that is still modern, but has character.

Ricky Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Surely a hotel has to be a possibility. There's only a couple in the vicinity of ewood. Id certainly rather stay in a hotel knowing that the cash was going to the club.

Maybe we need someone in to make sure we don't end up buying the Alan Smiths and Joey Bartons of the football world! What a ridiculous statement. If Sam wanted to buy the likes of Barton or Smith he'd have put an offer in before now. Sam has made some fantastic signings for us, given money he could be free to wheel and deal for the right players for Blackburn Rovers, not necessary big name superstars with big ego's. I think Sam has done a fantastic job up to now and deserves our support as he attempts to take us to the next level. Steve Bruce is the kind of manager who blow's big money on rubbish, lets think ourselves lucky he isn't at the helm! I just hope the new owners do give Sam the support that I think he deserves for his work since arriving at Ewood. stability is a major factor and he seems to have the squad on his side.
Ricky Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I think he's pointing out that sam bought those two for big money when he was given cash to spend at Newcastle. Maybe sam is one of those managers who is better on a tighter budget.

Maybe you're right, we've just had so many managers waste so much money over the years, though less so since The Hughes era. Christian Dailly, Nathan Blake, Kevin Davies, Grabbi to name a few!
Biddy Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Hum, I don't know what I did. It wasn't working, I changed nothing and now it is :s http://www.brfcs.com/membermap/ Lol, if you'd bother to read my posts in the dugout, I said I'd fixed it a few weeks ago.

Maybe sam is one of those managers who is better on a tighter budget. This is what I was meaning, The money seemed to burn a hole in his pocket at Newcastle. I'd like him to put as much thought into signings as his does now. Good young, promising players like Niko and N'Zonzi, not overpriced average players.

A hotel close to the ground, affiliated with the club, would help immensely for those of us who would prefer to do an overnight trip when traveling.

I know he will waste money, but we need it to happen then we can say "I told you so". If he does well, then brilliant.

Posted something simlar several times only to press the delete button at the last minute. One paper printed an alledged list of costly players and one was £8m for Cisse, the ex 'glass legs' Liverpool player. If, big Sam was to splash £8m on Cisse then I wouldnt ever give him another penny to spend.
unluckymorton Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Maybe you're right, we've just had so many managers waste so much money over the years, though less so since The Hughes era. Christian Dailly, Nathan Blake, Kevin Davies, Grabbi to name a few! I know where you are coming from Dan, but hopefully our new owners will let the manager get on with his job and make the right signings for the Rovers rather than get involved like Ashley did at Newcastle and the porn kings do at West Ham. I think Sam will spend wisely (given the chance) and not just throw money away on average players. Saying that, once the take over goes through we will have to pay over the odds for players because we have the money. It's not as if a new rebuilding programme has to begin. We have the base for a very good squad so I think it will be more of a case of gradual improvement to the current squad rather than a 12month over haul. A replacement for Dunn, a quality striker and a good winger could see us move on leaps and bounds. I don't think Sam will change his strategy too much, the financial backing will just aid him to see the transfers through.
Craigman Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Surely, the manager only identifies the players he wants, it is the club (John Williams) who will haggle over the fee. So Mike Ashley was not very good at his job !

It seems that a lot of managers who are excellent an unearthing players on a tight budget lose their heads when they have a lot of money to spend. Even Hughes, who I thought would excel with large amounts of cash, didn't make any excellent signings at City, and made a few shockers.

De Jong and Kompany were decent but no good attacking players apart from Tevez and Bellamy. As an aside I am surprised they are selling Bellamy when he was arguably their best player last year. edit - and Ireland is a great acquisition for Villa. What are the chances of him having a better season than Milner? Quite high in my opinion. WIsh we had managed to get the nutbar the season before last, would have been brilliant behind the main striker.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 To all those people asking "why would a billionaire want to buy Blackburn?", four words Craig, Bellamy, Cardiff & City Even Hughes, who I thought would excel with large amounts of cash, didn't make any excellent signings at City, and made a few shockers. Including this one (thankfully)
Steve Moss Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 This is what I was meaning, The money seemed to burn a hole in his pocket at Newcastle. I'd like him to put as much thought into signings as his does now. Good young, promising players like Niko and N'Zonzi, not overpriced average players. How much control did he have at Newcastle? I thought that era was a confused mess, with the change in ownership. Surely, the manager only identifies the players he wants, it is the club (John Williams) who will haggle over the fee. I think this is correct. Sam is not in charge of everything. He will indentify targets and it will be JW's task to see if he can land them and on what terms. I'm slightly confused about Syed's plans. Does he plan to spend 100 million in transfer fees over the next five years, with the other 200 million in marketing the club, and developing the grounds and Academy? If so, good for him. I could see developing the Ewood area as being a win win for Syed, especially as he just invested E300 million into a construction company. Have the construction company do the work, have your company do the marketing, etc., and he keeps the money flowing through his various businesses and investments.

Even Hughes, who I thought would excel with large amounts of cash, didn't make any excellent signings at City, and made a few shockers. Agreed, and based on his time at Newcastle you'd have to say Allardyce is one of those managers (I expect Cacapa's agent is rubbing his hands ) However, given his record at Rovers, he does deserve a chance to see what he can do - and now he's tried and failed on Tyneside hopefully that experience will have taught him to be a bit more careful when splashing the cash. Our defence is sound, but I'd like to see a proper left back at some stage. Midfield is the priority, N'Zonzi and Olsson are keepers but I think the rest of the midfield berths can be improved on. A creative player is an absolute must though. Up front, it would be nice to sign a striker of real quality.
MeanGreenMachine Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 My god there arnt half some ###### talked on here Mark Viduka - International Striker on a free, 38 games 7 goals Alan Smith - International midfielder/striker (at the time) for 6 million, been ever present and now club captain David Rozehnal - Signed for 2.9million, sold for 2.9million Cacapa - Free for a international defender and previous captain of Lyon, not sams fault he had some terrible injuries Habib Baye - 2 million and was their player of the season Joey Barton - 5.8million for at the time one of the best english midfielders about, again sam didnt tell him to go out and be a thug So to round off, yes i would trust sam with money.
