[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

You have a spat with Nicko? Hadn't noticed.

In that case, you deserve all the flak sent in your direction and a lot more besides! :P

;)

No, not at all if anything I thought it was all quite humorous, I'm merely fulfilling a great personal past time of mine stirring the pot.

Anyhow I have to shoot off, my boys in a sack race today and he gets sad if I'm late.

Stiring noted and respected :)

Allardyce vows to take it steady

as we all expected I think?

"I have to persuade the new owners - if it happens - that we have got to do it relatively slowly, not 'bang, bang, bang, bang'," Allardyce said. "That is a little too quick to turn a football club round to being successful. You try and do it as quick as you possibly can, but you want to do it by making sure you sign the quality of player at the right price."

Agree with all of that and don't think it goes against what Syed said in Monday's interviews (Maybe the Beckham thing was out of place but to be fair I think he was probably asked about him directly and Syed seems willing to answer anything) I really think they could do good things for Rovers.

A little song insipred by John Lennon's imagine...

I don’t think Jesus, Gandhi, and a ten pound bag of pot could make BRFCS as one.

I hope that I am not being branded with the anti-Nicko iron for simply asking some questions about the takeover and his thoughts on the previous one compared to this one.

Personally look forward to the prospects of new ownership with a combination of apprehension and pant wetting excitement. Kind of like the first rumble in the hay. I just fear about all the numbers being thrown about so openly.

Go ahead, call me a pussy.

P.S. I hope this thread is the correct one to be used, got a bit confusing there for a moment. More insults flying than minniballs at Antietam.

Sam's not stupid. If funds are made available for a late flourish, teams will be overpricing their players thinking we have a £80-£100m warchest. So I wouldn't take what he says completely at face value.

I find it funny that nicko doesn't have me on ignore. He must respect my views and logical reasoning ;)

Sports Day starts very late at that school, at mine we got the day off for it!

Majiball was making refernce to nicko's "insult" of calling me 'sad sack' (I can still feel the burn now).

Why not? nicko does :D

...OK I'll try and refrain from the cheeky comments, but I can't promise!

Sam putting a damper on the transfer window.

""The chairman says to me it would be almost impossible to think that any of that money might be available before the end of this window."

My link

He has to if he has any chance of getting these players that are being talked about. If one or two come in next week they could be looking at the exit door in a few weeks at least if they come in believing that it will only be them in this window they will think its a chance to prove their worth until January.

This is the best way forward, theres no point Syed coming in and spending stupid money if the players we are buying are not worth it. Also if we let it be known we won't pay over the odds we have more of that kitty to spend on more players. I would also not expect Sam to go out and buy 6 or 7 players in January as that would upset the balance of the team even if we are doing badly, one or two are more likely to have an effect in lifting the squad more than that youre looking at struggling more because the team needs to blend together. Throwing money at a problem is not always the answer as have many teams including ourselves have found out over the years.

I can't believe how restrained everyone has been to this, especially as nothing has been signed yet. Not one hint of over-reaction, no hissy-fit bickering, no FM shopping lists. Fantastic effort all round

Don't worry Im very much looking forward to FM this coming year!

The Fiver, which is a football round up news service similar to what Nicko's mates at Football 365 do, came up with that monicker if memory serves me right. It was given around the time we had Todd, Savage etc and regularly topped the disciplinary charts.

Yes, the Fiver gave it us the name in the early days of the Mark Hughes tenure when his combative style earned us that name. BTW The Fiver is funny, unlike Football365.

Sam is saying exactly the right things. Paying 220k pw for Yaya Toure would make me feel ill, even if we won something.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Arte et Labore

But it does fit in with Ferguson's attack on City's transfer policy today.

Sounds like Sam is the right manager then, taking it reasonably slow if we do come into some serious money is the best way of going about it. One of the issues i do have with Sam is his policy on veterans. I hope that if the takeover does go ahead that he doesn't spend all the money on a load of big name 33+ year olds who are clearly past it and are on big money.

That sort of approach will cost us in my view.

What policy on veterans?

Salgado's arguably been a success since he's found his feet here, Djorkaeff, Campo and Okocha were at Bolton, sure there's been a few duds like with any manager but he's also signed/brought through a lot of youth and a mixture of youth and top quality experience would be great for us.
