'If my finances allow and his intentions are positive then I would love to take Beckham.'

This is his first real mistake so far, undermining the manager, and the first signs he’s playing football manager 2010.

Worrying.

Sam wanted Beckham not long ago - so not undermining him there.

Im sure Syed sees him more of a marketting tool than a player anyway, its all about raising the profile & media interest

Well the point about us becoming self sustainable is important.

An ideal situation would be a club that can generate £10m a year itself with near to zero debt (I'm talking ultimately here, not overnight obviously).

£10m profit - Is that it?? Im sure we would want to be hitting much higher than that….dont we already make a profit of around £3.9m last year as it was?

We pay almost £1m a year to debt – that will go.

We also waste wages on several players who we do not need to replace…. Zurab, Brown, Grella & Jacobsen - £110k ish a week = £5.7m a year

Now extra income/ potential…..

  • In 2008 De Vere Whites hotel had a turnover of just short of £8.8m with an occupancy rate of around 76% (4 star hotel - 125 rooms)…..Now if we had something similar, with bigger & better conference facilities, gym & leisure facilities then you begin to see the potential to make a decent income stream.
  • Our Sponsorship deal with Crown is worth between £1-1.5m a year for ALL games, Spurs is worth £10m for league games alone…..That is 1 area Darmon needs to look at closing the gap on.
  • Pre-season games in the Far East, India etc for the other clubs tend to bring in fees of around £1m a game….So perhaps a Far East/ Asia/ India Tour could make us a nice bit of extra cash.
  • Increased attendances & increased merchandise sales = extra cash
  • Increased marketing will hopefully bring Increased interest from India could also bring in more money, whether it be by merchandise or by higher sponsorship deals from Indian/ Asian companies etc.
  • Better players, should hopefully bring higher placed finishes (worth £800k a place) and also more TV appearances (More cash)....These however may be swallowed by the higher player wages.

Nothing has been said yet about the form and time scales in which the money would be paid into Rovers.

So assertions of no interest and no fees charged to Rovers etc etc are premature to say the least.

The top level sounds are incredibly encouraging but I'd hold your horses until those details as well as key points for supporters like ticket and merchandising pricing policies become clear.

If a deal could be done this Autumn, Beckham makes a huge amount of sense for Rovers (Sam wanted him in the past, still a magnificent passer of the ball and dead ball exponent, massive marketing boost and perfect on the pitch inspiration for the youngsters coming through) but it appears there has been some quoting out of context being going on about him.

Gav - who do you think Sam would prefer in our midfield - Andrews or Beckham. Also, Sam is very pragmatic - he knows that Rovers have to increase their profile - Beckham is still one of, if not the, highest profile footballer in the world. Add the fact that he is better than any midfield player on our books - why would Sam not want him ?

Philip - My Syed said that NONE of his companies have any loans, and the 1ST thing he would do is clear our debts.

His initial 5 year strategy is Development of Ewood, £100m investment for players, improvement of academy, develop the brand.

Not if we are serious about creating a top class football team Philip.

Beckham still delivers a quality cross, aswell as a great set-piece....something which would be of HUGE benefit to help us move forward. He would still be good enough for our team for the next 18months - 2 years which is long enough to use his other benefits.

Off field he delivers a massive marketting opportunity & will increase our profile globally.

If he were to come back to the Prem he would be signalling that he is being serious about his last 18 months or so playing. He would be superior to anything we have in midfield at present as a footballer but would also give the club the credibility with other potential signings we might just need to get them into the club.

He wouldn't do anything to the wage structure as he would be in a category of one- Beckham.

Outside of the playing arena, if Syed is serious about a global football brand, signing Beckham is a no brainer.

He's past it as a footballer Hughesy. Didn't you watch any of his last England games?

Shankley would never have signed fading film stars.

Give over. He was playing for Milan in The Champions League a few months ago.

Keith Andrews was playing international football for one of the best managers in the world only a few weeks ago.

So it's not just young players you have a problem with Den, it's the old ones as well eh? ;)

Well I certainly have problems with the players you rate LeChuck.

Vassel and John Stead eh? :P

When owners, who don't even own the club yet, come out with names of players they hope to buy, it usually spells trouble, unless you're running for president of Real or Barca.

Lets hope I’m wrong, but I very rarely am :P

Lechuck rates everyone. ;):P

Beckham is a special beast, he has always trained well and hard more so than the majority of players these days. That makes a serious difference to his longevity, pace has never been part of his game either so adapting is hardly an issue either. But his mentality is the best part of him, everytime he has been dropped/written off he has come back and proved everyone wrong, money can't buy you that. People talk about the influence Salgado has on the dressing room, what could Beckham do there? We play position football and this is not going to change over-night, we sit deep and look to support in the main from the wide area's, there is a gaping hole in the middle of our midfield one I believe he would fill. He is the best dead ball specialist I have ever seen his accuracy is amazing, given we play for set-pieces and the such he could bring 7-10 assists a season easily. He still has something to offer on the pitch for a club like ourselves.

Away from the pitch, well if you seriously want to expand and increase sponsor ship, name me one player who can match him??? L.A. Galaxy are a global name now and make a fortune from his presence. In asia he is a deity, what better way to start a marketing campaign in an area we have little or no support in.

For me he brings more positives than negatives, yes he's old 35, but I remember real pro's like Teddy who could still do a job at 40 odd. You'd have to wonder though if he would be interested, but given his I have not retired stance, he knows he must play and prove himself all over again. For that he needs a platform of higher standing than the MLS, where better than the EPL.

For me its worth the question should we be taken over and I have no doubt Sam would love him here.

Who would you like as back-up/playing in the middle, Becks at 35 or Keith????

His last england games I felt that he was by far one of the better players on pitch, and one of a few to be playing with passion.

Realistically do I feel we are going to sign him, probably not, but that doesnt mean we can wish for it because he would make perfect sense for us as a team going forward. Did people moan about us signing savage at his age, he ended up, much like beckham, as being one of the hardest workers on the pitch.

Is Beckham better than Diouf? Yes.

Is Beckham better than Emerton? Yes.

Will Beckham make the club @#/? loads of money? Yes.

So, he'd improve the team, and make us more money than we outlay on him? Yes.

Not that it'd ever happen, but if the chance ever occurred, we'd be crazy to turn it down.

Personally, I think the Daily Mail have pulled off a piece of lazy journalisam from stories circulating a few days ago from where Syed said he liked Beckham which does not translate as I WANT BECKHAM.

Also, could you imagine Posh Spice allowing him to play for Blackburn after the abuse she got a few years back.

Would be great business, just aint goin to happen
