Mattyblue Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I can only hope our fans speak up and rally round the club in its defense in the face of some horrible media belittling. The hypocrisy of the media is astounding. In one breath they will state how uncompetitve the league is and yet they will use all the dark arts to keep clubs like ours 'in their place'.

tony gale's mic Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Come on, let's not pretend we acted exactly the same when all the other clubs had money pumped in. Hell, I would gladly keep muddling on with the Walker Trust were it not for all the other foreign owners in the league, even if Syed offered a billion in transfer funds. We'd probably be finishing ahead of Chelsea for one. However, an uneven playing field has been created which we need to even out.
bluebruce Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Well congratulatios to "the comeback kid" I have given his post (quoted that others may learn) a +1 even though I am not entirely impressed by it's message overall. But for the sheer beauty of it's composition I have to say I have rarely seen it's equal on this MB before. Well done that man! Really? I found it inordinately pretentious, personally.

Fife Rover Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Really? I found it inordinately pretentious, personally. As I said I was looking at it ONLY from the point of view of a piece of English prose, and not the message or it's style. It is a perfectly constructed piece of prose, with good grammar and spelling; both of which are extremely rare on this MB. That's all.
Seggie Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I am quite pleased this has gone quiet. The less we hear, the less attention we get and the less attention we get means we are going to stop hearing silly season stories like Beckham. All Mr Syed said was that he liked David Beckham as a player when he started watching English football and what we eventually got was a ridiculous piece of lazy journalisam from the Daily Mail stating that Rovers were in fact going to try sign him. I've enjoyed reading a lot about Mr Syed and finding out what he hopes to achieve with our club but now silence is for the best and I think what people like Big Sam are doing the right thing in keeping our feet and the players on the ground ready to focus on the more important task in hand be it a football club owned by the Walker Trust or by Mr Syed which is winning football matches.
Gav Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 A little update, have been informed that Mr Ali nor his team will not be making any further public comment on the take over. This is due to the huge media interest and the speculation (I assume the Beckham quote taken out of context) which have cause the due diligence process to be disturbed. They are now going to concentrate on completing the due diligence process and comment once the process has ended. Very sensible, but can’t be easy with the worlds media on your case. Lets hope this is a lesson learned.
thenodrog Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I think most of the regulars on here have got it now. You dont like modern football. Change the record. Really? Truth is that I've forgotten more about football that you'll ever know deryck. A very good move. I think that they have learnt very quickly that buying a football club is unlike any other deal that they have done in the past, in terms of the media interest that it will generate. They were doing fine until Mr Ali started to talk and reveal far to much detail. I suspect that Rovers would not have been happy about stuff like transfer budgets etc being discussed before the deal is concluded, it's not the way that Rovers like to do business. Saed's not too big to have his legs slapped then.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Big Chris has come out with some sensible comments about the takeover and the impact it might or might not have: Samba: Money doesn’t guarantee success but our team spirit is priceless

I'm a plumber not a reporter and I can see the difference. Its RANGERS not ROVERS too much Twitter ffs.
Andy Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Shoddy doesn't quite cover that - Queens Park Rovers?!
deryck guyler's spoon Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Really? Truth is that I've forgotten more about football that you'll ever know deryck. I was always confident that Mark Hughes would be a good boss for us.
duffbear Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 If the takeover goes through how would people feel about modfying the chant there is only 1 Jack Walker to there is only 2 Jack Walkers! I think it pays homage to Jack while also acknolweding the potential new owner?

duffbear Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 His name isn't Jack Walker I know that obvisouly it is just a joke but I do think it could catch on

CrazyIvan Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Apart from the slight but continual lack of respect spelling Syed with an 'a', I agree.

thecomebackid Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 He's most likely an academic, with little knowledge of either football or marketing David Beckham's $1 million-a-week 5-year contract with LA Galaxy comes to an end in January 2012. On top of any potential transfer fee, that works out at an annual 33,5 Million GBP. Which marketing strategy do you propose to justify such an outlay? Oh I know, let's wait for his contract to run down, so we can snap him up on a free, just as he will be approaching his 37th birthday. That way there should be enough time to get Ewood up to its new 45,000 seat capacity....Don't want disappointed punters locked outside!
John Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Can't wait to see Ewood rocking with 45k punters, good times ahead!
LeChuck Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 David Beckham's $1 million-a-week 5-year contract with LA Galaxy comes to an end in January 2012 He's on $6.5 million a year. That insane figure was put out by his PR people to hype up the move, it included all potential money he could be making from sponsorship and so on.
