[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

Its all a positive as far as I am concerned, if syed buys us we are happy, if not then there are others ready to purchase the club.

Bit of a loose comment - just because there are other interested parties does not mean they would be good owners for us.

I do think this is a complete red herring. I wonder how much Roman Abramovic knew about Chelsea before he took over there.

In my view it matters not one jot whether whether Mr. Syed has supported Rovers from the cradle or whether he knows relatively little about us but has a burning desire to own a Premiership Club and wants to make a relatively good fist of it.

All that matters is what he does from the moment he takes over. Assuming it happens.

A red herring? That would imply something that isn't there. The point I was making was not that it is important whether Mr Syed is a lifelong supporter - although it would be far more preferable if he was. The point I was making was about the OP's paragraph comparing him to Jack when we won the league.

Indeed.

That a takeover is completed asap before we are relegated.

If its such a certainty why do the bookies have us at 9:1 for the drop and 9-10 clubs with shorter odds?

In a nutshell I don't believe relegation is inevitable and I also don't think feeding the monster is the way to beat it. Thats my opinion, I understand its a minority view and it won't be shared by all.

No way of posting without sounding rude but I find your posts on this topic constantly belittling the Syed bid to be utter nonsense.

Not sure I have 'belittled' the bid in any way shape or form, I don't welcome it, its not the same. As for being rude, dont talk utter nonsense ;) I thought you argued your point well.

Oh and OscarRaven whilst I'm at it, if you found my post offensive then you must have either a very thin skin or you are one of those people who is perpetually looking for reasons to be a victim, grow up. I was referring to Jack's reaction to winning the EPL and hoping to see the same kind of reaction from a new owner, I was not comparing Jack to anyone. Please don't try to set me up to be the Bully to your Victim, I don't appreciate it.

Let me get this straight, your implying I'm thin skinned and playing the victim, whilst at the same time arguing I'm trying to set you up and that you don't appreciate it?

Only one person with a victim complex as far as I can see.

Just remember the only person who can make you feel bad about yourself is you!

Anyone who thinks that a club can stay in the premier league for a considerable period of time when they spend as little as we do is deluded.

We won't necessarily be as lucky as to be able to sell home grown players like Duff and Dunn for the fees that we did at one point (not to mention a few others brought in decent sums). We won't always be able to find players for 2-4 million and sell them for huge profits like we did with Santa Cruz and Bentley. Most importantly though, even if we do, we won't always be able to find players in the 2-4 million range who are capable of really competing at this level and even at times carrying the team (like we did with Bellamy, Santa Cruz, Benni, Bentley, Tugay, Friedel, etc.).

Now that isn't to say that we can't stay in the league, it's not to say that we require hundreds of millions to stay in the league, but at the moment we have a stagnant squad and that is never a good thing. We need to be able to consistently invest a few million every year in the team to bring in one or two players to compete for first team places and occasionally spend a reasonable amount on a player that we know will be an important first team player.

This squad is probably good enough to stay up, but it could go down. It's also one bad injury away from looking a lot worse (take out Kalinic, MGP, Samba or Robinson for the entire season and things wouldn't look great).

We clearly need investment from somewhere, especially as the Walker purse is being tightened every year. We've spent nothing this year, actually nothing. That would strike me as being virtually unheard of for a premier league side and we haven't done it because we are satisfied with our team, we've done it because we can't afford any of the targets that we have looked at (an extra 5-6 million could have netted us Lewandowski or Guiza for example). Not only could that money make our position in this league so much safer, it could also mean that we could challenge a bit higher up the table. We've finished the last two seasons quite nicely, but we have been right in the relegation battle for quite a bit of both seasons.

Rubbish, the one season we splashed the cash: Grella, Robinson, Andrews was the season we nearly went down.

Does not the seem the best news....

Ahsan Ali Syed, who wants to buy the Premier League club, was ordered to fold his Bahrain based firm Western Gulf Advisory, BBC's Radio 5 Live Investigates claimed.

The Bahraini authorities made the demand to cease trading two weeks ago for "violating the laws and regulations of Bahrain."

Nowt like selective copying and paste to get the heart rate going.

Well, it's the main news of the article - would say most of the article is hardly a ringing endorsement....?

Sure it will all be fine...

The article isn't exactly brimming with facts. It seems to say that the reason he has been asked to close is because the campany is being run by a hidden investor, hardly a massive crime. I think we should wait to see what comes up in the wash.

It may not have been common knowledge but I doubt it would have not been detected by Rothchilds.

I'm sure they would have preferred it to stay in the private domain until after the takeover is concluded, so just a few questions to be asked.

The latter part of the article quoted from Syed's spokesman seems to answer all the questions that we need to worry about.

"Acting on behalf of a hidden investor" hardly sounds the most heinous crime in the world and sounds more like a technical breach of their licence to operate.

Although it is perhaps slightly worrying that they possibly weren't aware of or maybe even deliberately flouted the pertinent regulations.

Think I'll wait for a bit more detail before getting too excited over this. Have to agree that if it were someone investing in a "big club" they might not be quite so keen to dig around for a bit of dirt.

Maybe Nicko or Kamy could clear something up for me which seems to suggest the comments made earlier were correct. With all the new interest in the club and rival bidders coming out of the woodwork it was said earlier the Trustees of Jack Walker were spooked by all the interest in the club is this why it is taking so long to sell the club & with the Syed bid the Shah group were trying to rubbish the syed bid is this why the trustees are so spooked in the amount of interest in the club?. Also quite interesting the Dubai group has pulled out just when the due dilligence is going on. Coincidence?. Also Kamy or Nicko could you confirm have the Bahrain authorities told them to close down WGA or has this been mentioned to discredit the Syed bid another ploy to make sure the club does not get sold to Syed. In all honesty looking from the outside in it seems the timing of the new bidders is very interesting in the middle of due dilligence and the timing of the Bahrain authorities intervening seem very interesting why was it not mentioned before the due dilligence?. seems like a deliberate attempt to sabotage the Syed bid. Also is football 365 that reliable a source. I had a feeling they were very unreliable they even at one point trying to discredit our resident journo Nicko without even speaking to the man himself. It looks like they are trying to get their own back on Nicko. Just a thought. All In All the timings of all this seem very strange.
