[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

It doesnt get me suspicious because we have one of the best known companies in banking/ takeovers etc that have checked him out.

Taken from Roschilds site -

"Rothschild is a top tier international investment bank with offices in cities globally. It has approximately 3,000 employees worldwide and more advisory bankers than any of its competitors"

It doesnt get me suspicious because of the bit in bold.

Regardless of how many employees they might have I'd like to think that if the last few years have taught us anything it is that the banking industry and banks aren't the most reliable people on the face of the planet.

I'd like to think that Rovers would have carried out some kind of investigation of their own.

No mention of the flowers?

He left years ago!

Strange, I found him on the London School of Economics website.

This Professor Prem Sikkar has been prepped to sound dramatic but in reality said nothing I didn't post on hear the day after WGA was first linked to Rovers and the guy's grasp of what is possible in accountancy is deeply tenuous based on that appearance.

But overall, that was a rehash of what we have had so far from Goldberg and apart from the revelation of not attending the LSE it didn't add to what had already appeared this morning.

Huge job though to recover from the perception that programme has created and of course Goldberg linked it all to asking whether the Premier League is tough enough on new foreign owners.

Snide jibe about Rovers from Goldberg not having as many trophies as Liverpool- strange the subject of the exposee was supposed to be a Premier League winning club.

The allegations in themselves amount to very little, it is just, as you state, the perception of Syed which is taking a battering. Surely though, if he backed out of the Rovers purchase now it would make things a whole lot worse? It would certainly ruin his imagine globally if these rather flimsy accusations were enough to turn Syed away from a major takeover such as this.

From the parts I heard I thought the exact same...it was like they simply picked the most surprising facts from their site and ran with that. Facts which many members of this board have been talking about for months...hardly an exclusive?

It's whether the billion quid actually exists and where it came from that's the real issue in my opinion not nonsense about messy flats and the like.

Well you say that Rev but I think they're equally as important. Living at Fernhurst (Ewood in my book) then the last thing I want is this guy moving it in and failing to clear up his mess. Whether it's his empty crisp packets and coke cans, misplaced business documents or whatever; put them in a bin.

Nor do I want him mincing about in his chauffeur driven Merc, speeding up and down Bolton Road, shredding his speeding tickets and throwing them out of the window. Nor do I want him to move into an office in the Jack Walker stand and then do one in a couple of years time leaving £61K, or more, of debt.

What mistruths have the unveiled?

Syed has been on the seen now for around two months and the best dirt anyone in the media is debts of less than £80,000 and what appears to amount to a few unpaid parking tickets.

Their report into WGA doesn't really bother me as Ali's side have already stated many times that he wouldn't be buying the club through the company, but rather from his own personal fortune.

If he can prove to the Trust that he actually has the cash then what's the problem?

I suggest that 5live investigate how this show got commissioned as it was the biggest load of crap I've listened to in a long time....how many actual Rovers fans had their comments read out?

The five live programm showed Syed as a guy who doesnt pay his bills, then when he disapppears he leaves the place in a ###### hole, is this the type of guy we really want at Rovers.

The guy obviously has no class.

That Goldberg dude certainly enjoyed every second of that 'investigation'. Whatever the outcome, I dearly wanted to give him a smack ... :angry2:

Que sera, sera and all that stuff.

Yes me feelings exactly mum.

Could it be possible that his business WGA AG in Bahrain actual channel most of their revenue through, say Hong Kong, without it ever entering Bahrain, and then onto more obscure off shore accounts.

Maybe, Syed is uncomfortable with banking in Bahrain for some reason.

Just curious.

Indeed. There didn't seem to be a shred of reliable evidence presented to corroborate any of the debt/flat stuff and the only fact that should cause any real concern is that someone allegedly so wealthy seemingly hasn't been heard of.

I wonder if Goldberg would have been quite so keen to present such flim flam if a self professed billionaire was promising to invest in WBA?

The problem is that the programme creates a negative perception of Mr. Syed Ali and piles the pressure on the Premier League ahead of the owners test. If he is on the level the allegations will need an extremely thorough explanation and/or rebuttal.

I suspect that someone said something similar about Lehman Brothers just before the collapse!

Whilst the programme raised several issues that might be explained away it's the fact that he is not known in India, or in banking circles that raises doubts. To the layman, the Accounting professor from Essex University, raised some interesting questions as to how much cash Mr. Syed's companies are actually making.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of Mr. Syed, the Trust and the Rovers to this programme. I'm not sure how any of them can hide behind the Non-disclosure line after the proposed new owner has been smeared on national radio.

If these accusations can be challenged and proved to be incorrest then the BBC would be in line for a damaging lawsuit. If they are not challenged by Mr. Syed the club should walk away as quickly as possible and then start asking questions of Rothschilds.

In many ways the programme may have done the Rovers a favour. After the Portsmouth debacle, the Premier League are now going to be all over Mr. Syed like a rash as the competition couldn't withstand another Portsmouth scenario.

My point about Roschilds is that they will have no doubt had to look at his financial history & prove what he says is true.....otherwise whats the point of them!?
