[Archived] Rovers Might Have Been Sold?

Recommended Posts

The biggest impact of this buyout is (now) not for the Rovers, but for Rothschild.

Their credibility is on the line. They are the ones charged with finding a buyer and assessing the credibility of the buyer.

Personally, I remain optimistic, but cautiously so.

Why don't we just wait till Sunday and all will be revealed by then. If Sunday passes without him buying the club, we can take it that the Board has serious considerations about him.

Why is that then?? What has Sunday got to do with it?

His exclusivity runs out next sunday - thats about it, however the fit & proper test takes 10 days alone!!

Quite untrue. Some of "you", in fact many of "you" wrote Syed off as being too good to be true as soon as you heard of him. Plenty of "you" are delighted with the BBC "revelations" as confirming what they already knew in their bones all along.

Plenty of you have abandoned all caution and have urged the club to get rid of the conman or chancer or whatever else he's been called.

I would love it if you are shown to be in error. Love it!!

Interesting there's a Blackburn Rovers down there... Do you know what the link is?

I think there is no link, its very common for clubs to adopt a name of an English team here in South Africa. I know in the amateur ranks, there are teams like Everton, Liverpool.. or they will adopt part of the name, like Hotspur FC, or Blazing Gunners FC. The english league is really massive in SA. I normally get to watch about 80 to 90 percent of Rovers league games, some live and some will be played as a delay broadcast late in the evening.

Word for word!

That said, Syed's office may have just released the same statement when asked by local press.

That Harsh Jain fellow on the 5 Live Facebook page is annoying. He keeps posting the same thing over and over. Surely if he has been cheated out of money, asking a Radio show in a different country - years later - isn't the right way to get it back.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful response! Some people who are cautious about "this guy" are exactly as you describe and I respect their views completely. Others are exactly as I described and have opposed a foreign takeover on principle and, in some cases, based on prejudice.

I am cautious in 2 ways--------1) I don't automatically accept what the media says-----eg did Syed ever say he was a graduate of LSE or did 1 paper report that and everyone else accept it? And I wait to read his response to what are still allegations not facts.

2) I am content to let the Trust judge his worthiness or otherwise. I'll happily abide by the decision-----I'll wager not all will.

So "complete and utter crap"?

I am sorry I used those words as I rarely get animated on this board, but frankly your response to my earlier post was very definite and I believe very wrong. You seem to be very clear that some people on here have their own petty agenda and do not have the best interests of the club at heart. I don't think that is true. I think the very vast majority do have the best interests of the club at heart. As you do.

I don't believe in billionnaires who say they are hapy to spend 300m and get no return on investment. As soon as he said that he lost all credibility for me.

There is no significant financial return on Rovers as a club. The only reason for a foreign buyer are as follows:

1. Money Laundering

2. Increasing international profile for political reasons. (Sheikh Mansour, Chelski, Thaksin)

3. Doing it with someone else's money as a bet on future revenues. (Utd, Liverpool)

Every foreign buyer in the premier league fits this profile except Lerner at Villa and he seems to regret his decision. I don't want an owner for Rovers under any of these circumstances.

I agree with most of this however hope (obviously) there is a foreign buyer who could do well for our club (and run it in the proper/correct manner).

Some people have questioned why I am slightly sceptical over the whole foreign takeover thing. With good reason I would say, or are Rovers the shining light and just got extremely lucky….….? There is an assumption that just because Syed is apparently rich, he is going to pour all his £8-12 billion into Rovers.

This is a man who runs an investment company and wants to buy our club – key words there being investment company.

I think the natural view to take is to be slightly suspicious – particularly when it is an individual you have never heard of before, plus no one else appears to have heard of him too….I am not completely against Syed taking over however do feel quite uneasy about it until we find out more information – even when we find out this information, ultimately, actions will as always speak much louder than words.

Perhaps that is the reason (Not the political bit) - Nobody knew anything about him not long ago - if his takeover goes through them im sure his company will be presented with all sorts of offers from companies needing help....giving him more scope to pick & choose his next ventures.

The other reason is that he clearly believes he can raise our profile and attract more interest from here & accross the globe. There is a big gap like he says between us & the likes of Real/ United - who one day were just another team....They have been built into global brands.

Perfect example of a big gap - Our shirt sponsorship is worth over £1m, Spurs is worth over £10m - Whats the excuse for that? (Dont yse the champs league as the excuse as the previous deal with Mansion was also huge)

Tin hat time! B)

We're about where we should be in the shirt sponsorship value -table. Other middle table clubs like Sunderland, Stoke and Brum behind us with their rich owners.. Fulham's done well though.

So is Syed (fell in love with us whilst he was doing his now unclear studies out of his squalid London flat). So whats your point? ;)

So he was doing his studies 10 years ago when we won the title and Becks was his hero.

The word coming out of the Syed camp is that they're going to release a statement in response to the bbc claims, my thoughts on the subject are why bother?

Surely if the takeover is going through without hitch it would be better let things take their course and not rise to the media bait?

Blackburn Rovers have never been a club that conducts its business in the media, we leave such things to Sullivan, Gold and Brady because it shows a lack of class in my opinion. Lets hope this doesn’t change if Syed does take over, because that would be a real shame.

We already have one self publicist in the ranks, we don’t want another.

Plus looking at Budhas table whoever is sponsoring Spurs is seriously overpaying compared to the rest of the clubs in the league - not the other way round.
