rivercider Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 He's decided to banjax any potential future deal on the strength of one indiscreet Rovers fan on this forum? What really did he expect giving out his details to a group of people he'd never met and divulging what must presumably be confidential information? Seems a very strange way for someone who's worth zillions to behave. If he was going to put another deal together then he'd play his cards very close to his chest I guess. Sorry, I may have not been clear in my post. He's decided to banjax (what does that mean?) sending any more e-mails to people based on the fact they are apparently open to public discussion. There is no new deal as far as I know, I think my post was perhaps a little ambiguous. As far as I know both Williams and Plainfield have made it pretty clear to all concerned there is no intention at all to look again at Rovers. I made the mistake of (drunkenly) posting his info here last Friday. If I made it sound like he or anyone had based an investment decision on what was posted here, sorry, that is not the case, what I meant was that when I called (again, just to see if he wanted to come for a breakfast and watch the Burnley game on Sunday) I said "there's an e-mail from you posted on BRFCS" and so there'll be no more of that, is all. And HUGE apologies Ma'am for my gender gaffe. Absolutely unacceptable, if I have any defense it is that I come from a culture where my mother and sisters have zero interest in sports, but still absolutely chagrined for my latent chauvenism, I have sent you a PM also to apologize. Best Isaac

Billy Castell Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 my dads bigger than your dad and i can wave my willy higher than you. Bet you can't! Will Rivercider be taxed an extra 10p to use this messageboard next month?

I must admit that I've found this topic highly amusing. Bryan has virtually summed up this topic in a couple of comment that I've highlighted in his post. In general some of the posts in this topic by people aledgedly in the know are indiscreet and very strange.Anyone genuinely involved in take overs unless there is a hidden agenda would not divulge confidential informationand would usually play their cards close to their chest.to people that they have never met, let alone post such information on an internet web site. There again maybe this is the way that people accross the pond do business - what next prospective buyers juggling footballs on the pitch

There again maybe this is the way that people accross the pond do business - what next prospective buyers juggling footballs on the pitch Can I just repeat one last time, no-one on this board is involved in any takeover, and none of the information divulged is confidential, it was all either a/ leaked to the press in 2007 by third parties or b/ available in the public accounts. But again, the point that seems to be missed (and I can't work out how to do bold typeface to highlight it) is that NO-ONE IS INVOLVED IN ANY TAKEOVER here. Not me (my current company invest in technology, healthcare and manufacturing companies), not Dan Williams (who has made it clear I believe he is happy to just be a regular fan) and not Plainfield who would not revisit a 3-year old project that would have lost them money had they done it. A good conspiracy theory has to be based on some foundation. I came here to learn more about Rovers and the fans, I (perhaps foolishly in retrospect) thought setting some factual inaccuracies straight would be worth doing, and now I just want to learn more about the football psyche that I would be the first to admit is alien to me but that I am keep to become a better part of. In 2005 I couldn't have told you what the offside rule was, in 2007 wouldn't have been able to place Blackburn on a map of England, now I am bitten by the bug of Blackburn Rovers and as I am sure you would too if you were in my position, just want to catch up best I can after 36 years of living in the dark.

broadsword Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 As far as I know both Williams and Plainfield have made it pretty clear to all concerned there is no intention at all to look again at Rovers. From 47er's posted mail: The influx of e-mails has led to a little bit of a softening, I must admit.I am going to meet next week with a couple of old friends from Hong Kong now living in the States who happen to be billionaires and float the idea of at least exploring things again. You can see where the confusion comes in - either any potential deal is dead, or is still alive. I have to confess I find it slightly strange that Dan would declare his business intentions in an e-mail to a complete stranger. Presumably just a very trusting guy.

I have to confess I find it slightly strange that Dan would declare his business intentions in an e-mail to a complete stranger. Presumably just a very trusting guy. More fool him I guess, though personally I think meeting with people (and I know who he's talking about) and floating an idea of at least thinking about taking a look is a long way from being involved in a deal, but yes, I think perhaps he was assuming that, as I would, an e-mail I sent to someone privately would not find its way on to a forum but that might be naive or maybe there are different etiquettes about such things in England, here a private e-mail is just that. Either way I see your point. More importantly, I think Banjax is the greatest word ever invented and the fact that after 4 years at Berkeley and 2 years at Harvard Business School I had never heard it speaks volumes about the American education system. I will now use Banjax at every available opportunity (along with my other new words including bellend, willy, butty, dingle etc). I also know now that it is a football pitch inside a ground, not a "socca" field inside a stadium. See, I am getting there (love that this forum edits socca - spelled properly - to football)
Billy Castell Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I hope Dan doesn't get any of those e-mails from 'former Nigerian ministers' then. God knows how we'd end up if he did take over. We'd probably have two of George Weah's cousins up front.

rivercider Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Rivercider You might want to read about this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Dia Wow......was the Sounness who was the coach any connection to the Sounness who used to be our coach? That's pretty embarrassing - wonder if I pretended to be related to Park from Man U I could get a game somewhere, no CauCaus I know can tell Koreans and Chinese apart, but seriously that story is fantastic. I read the whole link to George Weah and couldn't figure out why signing his cousins would have been a bad thing until you posted that. Dude got PUNK'D

rivercider Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 One and the same Souness Just read up on him (Souness not Ali Dia) - never realized he was a famous ex-player which goes to show how poor my football IQ is. Seems like most of our recent coaches have been that way as well, Hughes, Dalglish (sp?) and (meh) Ince. Some amazing pictures on Souness's profile from his playing day as well - sadly seemed to overlook his prior career as the Construction Worker in the Village People, but wow that was some serious hair he was rocking back then.
broadsword Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 It was a moustache to conjure with, and a source of chi.

Seems like most of our recent coaches have been that way as well, Hughes, Dalglish (sp?) and (meh) Ince. Not Allardyce though. He was a skill-less, lower league hatchet-man who spent most of his career at our dear neighbours, Bolton Wanderers, but he did have a moustache. Perhaps 1970's footballers moustaches were proportional to their egos?
jim mk2 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Not Allardyce though. He was a skill-less, lower league hatchet-man who spent most of his career at our dear neighbours, Bolton Wanderers, but he did have a moustache. Perhaps 1970's footballers moustaches were proportional to their egos? Yawn. And across the frozen wastes of Canada the sound of the lone wolf baying at the moon could be heard. But no one took any notice, because the wolf was a solitary creature and he would be gone by the morning.
Exiled in Toronto Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 You think he was a skillful player? I accept he is getting us results, but please don't rewrite history to further the praise of your hero.
jim mk2 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Allardyce was a mightily effective centre half in the excellent Bolton team of the 1970s/80s and no more or less skilful than the Rovers centre halves of the same era.
broadsword Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 That's a politician's answer if ever I saw one.
jim mk2 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 That's a politician's answer if ever I saw one. Maybe. But it was also a reasoned response to the "skill-less, lower league hatchet-man" rubbish posted previously.
Fife Rover Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 That's a politician's answer if ever I saw one. Sorry but it can't be a politicians answer, because it is the literal truth. Sam was indeed a good solid no-nonsense CH in a very good Bolton side. What else is there to say?
Exiled in Toronto Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Well at the time I thought he was a dirty sod. But then they all were compared to now. Anyway, for the benefit of our American hedge fund friend to whom I addressed the original comment, an effective 2nd division bruiser is a long way from the pedigree of Kenny and Souness.

I like "dirty sod" - might add that to the Banjax list. I have learned more in 2 weeks on here (I actually opened this account for general use way back when but only started reading and posting two weeks ago) than I did in the first 3 years as a fan. Not only that but I now have an understanding of English slang that is not just based on Guy Ritchie movies (like most of my compatriots). I feel a little tingly awaiting my first "Dingle Derby" (the other game wasn't shown live over here) so this is how I imagine being a fan feels before every home game you get to attend (lucky sods...???)
