DavidMailsTightPerm Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 If the BBC expose didn't flush out a response, why would an offhand response from Sam do so? The BBC didn't say the deal wouldn't go through - which Sam has infered. It could also be the straw that broke the camels back (so to speak)

rovers_rob Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Andy cryer on twitter : I have just got back from speaking to Sam myself. Don't read too much into this comment. No one knows at moment.
booth Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Syed takes action against Letting Agent That's better than the one Goldberg posted
iamarover Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 The Trust are picking up the tab for this exercise in the event of Rovers not being sold I believe. Yet another example of how incredibly fortunate Rovers are to have the Trust as owners. Just had an interesting talk with my former CEO. I know a Rovers shareholder so i was able to give my old boss the accounts for the past couple of years for his comment. He thought Rovers in good shape. Financially that is not in relative spending power. As an aside he said his understanding from the rarefied heights of City finance, was that the Trustees do not have the power to sell the club and have a duty of care to it ad infinitum. If true this may explain the length of time in finding a suitable suitor for our Ewood Cinderella. Any prospective Prince Charming would in effect have to guarantee the safety of its assets at Ewood and Brockhall and, short of an staggering rise in club revenue, have to undertake not to take out so much as a glass slipper in recompense for their investment. The old fox may have secured the chicken coop from his fellow predators then. Unless of course some wise guy comes along and promises the commercial earth, which of course isn't realistic for little old Bla.....Oh
MikeB Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Phoned two bookmakers in order to see what odds I could have on Ali completing takeover in Sept. - they wouldn't quote. There's either no market or they know something.

Hughesy Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 No market....its only little Blackburn Rovers!!

Tim Southampton Rover Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Maybe MikeB is Mr Syed and he's going to make the 300m by placing a bet.
TimmyJimmy Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 OK chaps and lady chaps I'm now officially depressed, I'm off to the pub and I'm staying there for some considerable time.

There is a way the Trust can sell but they have to be incredibly careful and thorough about how they do it. Unfortunately it is now tin hat time.

The 91% wages to turnover ratio? The annual asset stripping to cover losses? The inability to invest in new assets? The massive dependence on one key revenue stream (TV rights)? Just because someone works in the 'rarefied heights of the City' doesn't mean we should take their word as gospel.
Doaksie Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 A small update http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/blackburnrovers/news/8382789.Syed_s_attempts_to_buy_Blackburn_are_still_ongoing/ Extract: (on whether the deal had 'died') A spokesperson for Mr Ali Syed, said: "With this specific rumour, it is entirely untrue and the process is ongoing." ...as opposed to other rumours, which have had substance perhaps? Maybe an indicator that the Goldberg stuff had something damaging to it? Or a sign that I look for the bad news, even when it's positive?
Sparky Marky Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 That's a fair comment. Without Sky, we'd be seriously in the s**t

Nah I take exactly the same from it, using careful verbiage constitutes carful verbal treading. It better be one whopper of a statement, with cheese and bacon.
Mattyblue Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 That's a fair comment. Without Sky, we'd be seriously in the s**t Goes without saying, but it is TV revenue in general that feeds the monster that is the Premier League, the overseas rights are increasing year on year.
tony gale's mic Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 That's a fair comment. Without Sky, we'd be seriously in the s**t Would we? Without Sky all the other clubs we'd be competing with would have less money and so we wouldn't need to spend so much to keep up with them. The players would be a hell of a lot poorer though.
chaddyrovers Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 IS Mr Ali ever going to respond to the bbc comments about him? also is he buying us or not? If Not why? failed the premier test for owners or not interest any more? I was in favour of Mr Ali takeover from the start. He had a plan for rovers and where he wanted us to go. Was going to keep the current board and Big Sam inplace and improve the marketing side of the club, which does need improving. Now started to wonder whether he's right now because he hasn't comment to the bbc comments and his camp has gone all quiet. I trust John Williams, Board, Trustees and Rothchilds to find the right owner for rovers. Hope other groups interest in Rovers now start talking to rovers and looking at the club's accounts and a deal can be inplace by January to allow Big Sam to buy some players.

Syed's spokesperson Julia Thiem spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and said - "We know all the time the process is going on there will be rumours. 'So the best way to stop that and prove to people we are capable of taking control is by completing the purchase. Hopefully that will silence people. "We can`t do anything about these rumours. These rumours will only stop once we prove we are a good owner and that we have the sufficient funds. 'People are always suspicious and we accept that but will prove them wrong." They've already said they expected rumours, and they are focusing on completing the deal rather than overly concern themselves with responding to every Tom Dick and Harry who comments on them or the takeover...
