Roost Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Offices of Allen & Overy. Golden Circle law firm. WGA have retained a top London PR agency but as of last week they had not been briefed as they effectively told Goldberg they knew nothing when they were contacted by the BBC. Huge Law firm. Has this address been used as a UK registered address for this (very) new business, without them actually being based there (or anywhere....)? Philipl just seen your edit - are you saying the PR firm is based here or am I losing the plot?
thenonda Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Maybe the lack of news from Julia Thiem et al is due to this change. Maybe things are not as bad as they may have seemed last night... Hopefully!

Philip, Could it be that they are now gearing up for PR to be based in country and that is why Julia is being so quiet now? Also, could this law firm be used for other purposes? And from past experience, there is a great distinction from not knowing to saying one doesnt know anything.
Torgeir Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 No need to start a great forum depression before anything official comes out though. Or until Sam says something he shouldn't have Takeover or not I'll always be a Rover.

MikeB Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Guys, Allen & Overy are top notch - sharp cookies based on some personal experiences.
Balwer Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I would assume that means A & O is advising the buyer, just as Rothschild are advising the seller. Nothing suspicious about that, although they don't come cheap so perhaps that's a good sign.
nicko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 You seemed to hint that you knew a bit more about those rival bidders than had been reported in the press. Anything you can tell us? Is it true there was another Indian investor who (allegedly) was worth more than Syed (allegedly) was? I wish I knew more about them. I know one has had a meeting and think they have a real chance. The other was written by the Screws and may also have some substance. Got to say I am truly fed up with the whole issue. However it is vitally important to find a backer as the last window showed.
roversmum Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Can I look forward to them sorting Mr Goldberg out then?
nicko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I think the manager's assessment of the lie of the land on this takeover bid is far more valid than any PR mob.
tony gale's mic Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Can I look forward to them sorting Mr Goldberg out then? Why? It's sounding like we should be thanking Mr Goldberg and his team.
Torgeir Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I think the manager's assessment of the lie of the land on this takeover bid is far more valid than any PR mob. Why though? Was it all just a (stupid) publicity stunt?
booth Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 A & O are a huge law company. For one you need some backing to get people like that on your side. And is it any coincidence when he's had a lot of muck thrown his way lately? Or is it all a load of shizen?

roversmum Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Its not the allegations, tgm, but the arrogant, bordering on rude, smug way he went about it that particularly wound me up. He was plainly enjoying every minute of bringing little ol' Blackburn's new Messiah down. Unfortunately it seems that possibly some of his statements may have been true but a girl can still hope for the odious Goldberg's comeuppance can't she?
philipl Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Frustrating- I saw reference to Ali Syed's UK PR agency in a piece at the time all this was breaking last week and it was one of London's biggest. When contacted they had said something like "we know nothing about this person"! I suspect the agency has managed to get the relevant bit expunged from the online article in which it appeared because it really read badly both for them and Ali Syed.
nicko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Why though? Was it all just a (stupid) publicity stunt? The manager knows better than most what has been going on for the past few days in particular and weeks in general. He gave his verdict on the likelihood of a deal going through. He probably went a bit 'off message' but good for him if that is what he knows. It tallies with a great deal of other info that is not in the public domain. He has had to try to juggle sand for the past few months and he is not happy about it. He used the word 'distraction' as well in an interview today. That is clearly how he feels. I remember saying something similar a month back and got accused of hate crimes.

I know you're far from the only one to feel this way, but I suspect were this a piece on the Glazers or any other club and they had a similar attitude, you and others wouldn't have felt the same way. I definitely can see what you mean about his smugness but fact is it's looking like he's done us a favour right now, even though that was hardly his primary motivation for doing the story.
trs Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Philipl just seen your edit - are you saying the PR firm is based here or am I losing the plot? Dont worry PP, you are not alone!

Roost Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Dont worry PP, you are not alone! Phew! Thanks trs - I was beginning to wonder............

Yes, and if that turns out to be true, I shall annoy him by thanking him profusely haha!

Citigate Dewe Rogerson, which looks after WGA's public relations, claimed in a statement released to The Sport Briefing that the Bahrain-Swiss investment company would sign a memorandum of understanding with Blackburn on Monday morning before beginning detailed due diligence. Guardian

Interesting that you say that as yesterday I noticed that there were connections between an australian PR firm (Jackson wells I think it was) and wga, listing them as a client, but have since removed all references to wga from it's website. At a guess I would say they were working with them on the cubbie station deal, which also went very quiet all of a sudden when the deal looked imminent
