doctorryan Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I feel a little tingly awaiting my first "Dingle Derby" (the other game wasn't shown live over here)....................... Yes it was.

doctorryan Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Yawn. And across the frozen wastes of Canada the sound of the lone wolf baying at the moon could be heard. But no one took any notice, because the wolf was a solitary creature and he would be gone by the morning. You've obviously never been to Toronto. At least not in the last 30 years or so. Detail is important to me too, so why do you call the Premier League the "EPL" ? I can understand why overseas supporters might (wrongly) call it the "EPL" but there is no reason why British fans should not call it but any name other than its correct name, which is the Barclays Premier League. How many times does someone have to post the same reply to your incorrect assertion? Barclays Premier League is a commercial title. The correct name is (& has always been) The Football Association Premier League (Limited). Look it up. Try here: The Football Association Premier League Limited 30 Gloucester Place London England W1U 8PL Telephone 020 7864 9000
PAFELL Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Curious but in a very sceptical way. I'd love to know what's going on and more intersetingly why, but I wouldn't put myself out to find out because I still have the feeling there's some kind of other agenda going on here and I don't really want to be part of it. I'd rather stand back and observe and wait to see. Cannot argue with you there. I have been sceptical from the first post from Rivercider. I am not saying he is false etc, as I do not know. But I am reading, observing etc, very sceptical and very curious as well. When I think of this whole situation, one thought constantly comes up, "There is a hidden agenda in all this"
Backroom trueblue Posted March 27, 2010 Backroom Posted March 27, 2010 I used EPL, probably subconsciously, because the person I'm in discussion with used the name. Personally I usually refer to it as the PL or Premier League, never the Barclays Premeir League. I feel you have misunderstood me. I'm talking financially, the club along with many in the Barclays Premier League, to give it the correct name, is almost entirely reliant on TV money. Without this cash flow the club could not afford the players wages. Many people have commented on how important it is to remain in the PL from a purely financial view. I'd agree entirely. If we were to be relegated where would the money come from? In this sense many clubs in the PL would be a busted flush without Sky money and one has to wonder what would happen were Sky to lose interest? Though as has been pointed out the two organistaions, Sky and the PL, may be entirely reliant on each other. Hmmmm

The correct name is (& has always been) The Football Association Premier League (Limited). Look it up. Try here: The Football Association Premier League Limited .... Sorry. But that is the name of the organisation who run the competition. The correct name of the competition is "The Premier League" as per the rules it has adopted the name of the sponsor for the first team competition, thus "The Barclays Premier League" This is sad, Im going to bed, big day tomorrow
47er Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I kept off this thread after rivercider's bit of fun because I found out too much. I will leave it to others to keep on digging but no regrets about anything I have posted. Sorry but I can't let this post go by with out comment. What is the use of it? "I've found a lot of things out but I'm keeping it to myself. You lot keep on digging"-----that's an apt paraphraise of what you've written. Bit condescending isn't it? First of all, isn't the whole point of a forum that members share and exchange views and opinions? Second, if you're not going to tell us why post that you've found something out in the first place? Third, when something concrete does come out, does it enable you to then join in and say "yes I discovered that too but I didn't want to release it at that time"?
doctorryan Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Sorry. But that is the name of the organisation who run the competition. Brfcrule1 Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Nicko can you tell us is there any news in tommorrow's people about the potential takeover thought there maybe some news by now as to where we are at thanks as always Nicko for your valuable info.
stuwilky Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 organization who runs the competition = The Football Association Premier League (Limited) adopting the name of the sponsor for the first team competition = commercial title Goodnight Stu Organisation is correct as well ;-) It is indeed the commercial title, but regardless of a sponsor teams do not compete for anything with the word "limited" in the title! Im gonna miss my bus, too nervous to sleep!
doctorryan Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Organisation is correct as well ;-) It is indeed the commercial title, but regardless of a sponsor teams do not compete for anything with the word "limited" in the title! Im gonna miss my bus, too nervous to sleep! Organization is spelled with a Z on this side of the pond. Sorry. You will note the limited was in parenthesis. Do I need to explain what the "limited" means and why it would be in the title? The name of the league is The Football Association Premier League, no matter what company buys the sponsor rights. Get over it......... and some sleep, and a copy of the league's handbook while you're at it.
stuwilky Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 EDIT Ive got a copy of the handbook (rather sadly) - the title in B1 (already referred to I think?) still doesnt refer to the limited company name.... Not that I'm sure why this matter is even being discussed, seems a bit odd to me from a throwaway comment earlier! Still, night.
doctorryan Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Try page 3 or 4 of this year's book. I'm happy, as I'm sure you are too, to take the cash from Barclays, or Carling, or whomever steps forward in the future and have their logo all over everything and the ribbons that adorn the trophy. But the name of the league will still be The FA Premier League. Just like it's still the League Cup. With a special thank you to Carling, Worthington, Coca Cola, etc... By the way Stu - Have fun tomorrow. From what I can tell I'll be one of the few watching this by myself.
jim mk2 Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 How many times does someone have to post the same reply to your incorrect assertion? Barclays Premier League is a commercial title. The correct name is (& has always been) The Football Association Premier League (Limited). Look it up. Try here: Wrong. Repeat after me three times. The title of the competition is the Barclays Premier League. The Football Assoiation Premier League is the organisation that runs the league. It's quite easy really.
stuwilky Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 The correct name of the competition is "The Premier League" So we are agreed...... with what I said earlier! Taken from about page 73 or something silly!
nicko Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Nicko can you tell us is there any news in tommorrow's people about the potential takeover thought there maybe some news by now as to where we are at There won't be anything in the paper, but there has been a small development today. The Arab [or the one I know about] has just clinched a major business deal in his homeland today and will be devoting his time to that and won't be buying a football club. Now there's a surprise...another talker. I won't break someone's confidence but there may be a bit of movement involving a rival bidder. Some people were over at the Birmingham City game. And, no, they weren't American exiles or whatever. Puffed out with this one.
doctorryan Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Wrong. Repeat after me three times. The title of the competition is the Barclays Premier League. The Football Assoiation Premier League is the organisation that runs the league. It's quite easy really. Get yourself a copy of the handbook Jimbo. It's quite easy really. You can argue this until the end of time if you like, but the name of the league, organization, or whatever you want to call it (it's all the same thing, it really is) is the Football Association Premier League. I swear, this is like listening to those moron pundits call The European Cup the Champion League Trophy when it still says clearly (in French mind you) European Champion Clubs Cup. Stu..... Why are you quoting yourself?
stuwilky Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Stu..... Why are you quoting yourself? A reminder to what I said the first time you corrected me - I also meant to include your last post in it, but managed to cock that up! Then league handbook states quite clearly on page 78, Section B, Rule 1 - and being too bloody nervous to sleep I have actually checked now hoping that looking for the damn thing would bore me sufficiently to make me sleep The League shall be called "The Premier League" Notwithstanding any of this crap, we still havn't been taken over though, nor does it look any more likely.
doctorryan Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Yes - let's finish this:Link to PL Handbook for 09/10
jim mk2 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 it (it's all the same thing, it really is) You still don't get it do you ? OK, one more time for the hard of learning. The correct title of the top tier of English football is the Barclays Premier League. That competition, ie the Barclays Premier League, is administered by an organisation called the Football Association Premier League. It really is that simple.
doctorryan Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Jesus are you dense. Competition: League Cup Name of trophy: League Cup Commercial Sponsor: Carling Title to be used on advertising, programmes, tickets, presentations, etc..: The Carling Cup Competition: The Football Association Premier League Name of trophy: The Premier League Trophy Commercial Sponsor: Barclays Title to be used on advertising, programmes, tickets, presentations, etc..: The Barclays Premier League Now what the hell part of that do you not understand? Are we typing the same English?
jim mk2 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Competition: The Football Association Premier League You really are stupid. For the umpteenth time. The competition is not the "The Football Association Premier League" The competition is called the Barclays Premier League. Amazingly, it even has a website of the same name. http://www.premierleague.com/page/Home/0,,12306,00.html Do they teach basic comprehension in US schools ?
doctorryan Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Hey wait a minute! Stu, aren't you supposed to be in bed? Go get the handbook Jimbo.
