Over rated so much he once finished second in the 'World Player The Year' award list (voted for by International Managers) and has more medals than you have brain cells.

What exactly has Beckham won since he left Man. Utd?

He won La Liga in his last season at Madrid.

One league title during four years at Madrid, and he was a bit-part player during that season if I remember. Of course, at least he got his career back on track by joining the MLS league. *ahem*

Beckham was a good player back in the day, but his celebrity status overshadows an overrated footballer.

Beckham came back in to the Madrid team that season at the same time as they picked up and pushed on to the title.

Yes, he went to the MLS, and then once again showed how dedicated he is to the game by playing for AC Milan during the MLS off season.

He's played for Man United, Real Madrid and AC Milan, yet he's overrated? This isn't like Keith Andrews apparently being rated by Allardyce, Hodgson and Trappatoni, Beckham has been consistently picked to play for teams managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, Fabio Capello, Sven Goran Eriksson and Carlo Ancelotti. He's held down a regular place in teams alongside the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Raul, Luis Figo, Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ronaldinho, Paolo Maldini, Clarence Seedorf and many of the finest players of his generation. But yeah, he's totally overrated.

You remember wrong. Capello decided he wasnt going to play him once it was announced that Beckham would be going at the end of the season. He ended up playing a vtal role in the title win and is one of the few players that has ever made Capello change his mind.

It is quite the opposite, Beckhams celebrity status overshadows just how good a player he is and has been.

I know I sort of accidentally started all this but can we stop it or move it. We were discussing marketing and how a player like Beckham could benefit our profile but since there's no way he's coming to Ewood it's a tad irrelevant. However, it is the kind of thing that does make a difference short term to a club's profile.

George Best didn't think Beckham was much cop. There's a quote out there somewhere.

Beckham is absolutely mint at striking a ball, whether it's moving or not and he's got a high-energy game (or used to). He hasn't got many strengths, but he's the very best at them.

Lets be honest, the best way to market Rovers is to be successfull on the pitch.

The success during Uncle Jacks period increased the crowd - where were the Johnny come lately when we were down in the old second and third divisions.

The best way to market Rovers is clearly to sign David Beckham.

Back to the topic and i think rovers would be better jus sticking with this lot in charge now.

They may be tight but we are a financially sound club which most premier league fans can only dream of having a club like.

Rather personal and definitely a keyboard warriorish response shillito15 if you don't mind me saying so. You need to learn respect. :glare:

Anyway lets hear from somebody who possibly had more knowledge about football than even you possess.

George Best about David Beckham in 2000

"Beckham - you can say he's got a good right foot but he's not got a left. "

"Beckham didn't deserve to be elected best player in the world. When he can do something else apart from cross perhaps he will.

He (Beckham) cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right."

Don't waffle and prevaricate just say which bit of that is inaccurate in your opinion.

Yea totally agree with all that. Beckham is a prime example of our shallow society, where people become famous and are then famous for being famous out of all proportion to their actual talent. We are obsessed with fame and personality. Beckham, in this sense, is little different to Paris Hilton, who can't act or Kylie Minogue who can't sing or act.

There are dozens if not hundreds of footballers with far more talent who never hit the headlines in anything like the same way and will never be remotely as rich. Bryan Douglas had vastly more talent but few outside Blackburn Rovers fan-base even know his name.

Where I dived into this debate is when he was put forward as "an ambassador" a role model for young children. Fair enough if they just seek to be rich and famous, make themselves look like a lizard and marry a stick insect I suppose. These are not the values I'd like kids to focus on though.

In his prime Beckham was a pretty good footballer and that's the beginning and end of it. There is nothing more to say.

That shows that he was a very good player but he was never one of the best players in any of those teams and he only had 1 really good game for England.

He was a good player who played for good teams and he was one of the best crossers of a ball I have ever seen but he was inferior to all the players you have just listed.

IMO, Damien Duff had miles more talent than David Beckham ever did...

Beckham was an excellent footballer and is still a more than decent one. Even in his prime he would rarely go past several players like a Messi or Ronaldo but there was little else he couldn't do. There have been very few footballers who have worked as hard as him on the pitch, he never stops running and is a great example to other players. His deadball accuracy was second to none and his long passing and shooting in general was excellent.

You don't win the trophies and accolades that he has without being a very good player.

Unfortunately depending on what the media thought of him at the time swayed the majority of peoples opinion on him. Sometimes people just need to think for themselves and make up their own minds. There's nothing wrong with having an opinion even if it is different from others.
