thenodrog Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 What's wrong with Indian or Pakistani origin? IndoPak, must say that's a new one for me! Is it? Try google. Anyway can you differentiate easily? I certainly can't. But surely you cannot stop there imy, to be completely PC and offend no one you would have to laboriously type "Indian or Pakistani or Bangladeshi or Afghanistani or Nepalese origin" and that would be just plain stupid. To call individuals wrongly can cause offence to some I believe...... unless of course they are Pakistani or Bangladeshi and own a restaurant.

thenodrog Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Here we go...... This is a takeover thread, p*** off and discuss Indian or Pakistani origin elsewhere Rem Nicko started it Gav. You should direct that comment at him.
ewoodpo Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 We always hear about the 30% Pakistani population of Blackburn, no-one ever mentions the Indians, I mean ever! Census results for Blackburn 2001 , the Indian population is the largest ethnic group in Blackburn. Who cares anyway as long as whoever takes over has the interest of the club at heart. http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/profiles/00ex.asp
den Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Don't be so precious Den. Just take a look at where you're taking this thread Gord. It's not necessary.
nicko Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Interesting to see some predictable resposes, but never mind... There are two interested parties at the moment, both have been in touch with club, both yet to prove how much they have and where it is coming from. However there IS a meeting between one group and the club this week that may progress things. I don't know which one of the two it is, but hopefully that will emerge. I don't want to comment about what these people are about and what their intentions are as nobody has gone public from either of them yet. There are other people around here who know the identity of the 'Thai group' but they are quite right to keep that quiet. The 'Indians' and their spokesman have been telling people on the fringe of the game about their interest which is where I got that line from. Will either buy? Who knows. But there is an ongoing attempt to sell the club and they are still looking for Mr Right.
67splitscreen Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 We always hear about the 30% Pakistani population of Blackburn, no-one ever mentions the Indians, I mean ever! Do we?! a bit of an exaggeration no doubt, 20.7% all ethnic groups according to the 2001 census, latest estimates are of a similar figure. Quoting the article. "The Indian group is fronted by football agent Chris Nathaniel, with Blackburn of particular interest because of the large local community with roots in that country." 10.66% his hardly large. Early day's yet but I have a feeling that these two parties will fail. Nicko, the Thai group, is Mr fix it the only link to Shinawatra?.
nicko Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Nicko, the Thai group, is Mr fix it the only link to Shinawatra?. That's the big question.
Majiball Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 As long as he comes in and then sell's us on to some mega rich arab willing to pump in 100's of millions then I'd be happy.
67splitscreen Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 OT slightly. During the preiod of Shinawatra's reign, Thailand was hardly a hot bed for all things City. I mix with the Thai community on a regular basis, yes they talked about him owning a EPL club initially, however I cannot remember any changing their support or any noticeable increase in club merchandise on the streets, which in any case would have been made locally and of no financial gain to the club.

A point many will overlook when estimating the potential of the Asian market.
philipl Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 A point many will overlook when estimating the potential of the Asian market. Don't think this follows. Thaksin is a politician- suppose Gordon Brown had bought a Thai football club, would you have bought the shirt?
Bobby G Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 No but the same argument doesnt apply to other countries were their own footballing sides dont compete on a global stage. Hence when the AD government effectively bought Man City, residents in the UAE began warming up to the side. It takes time, but the potential does exist.
Hughesy Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Shinawatra was hardly bad for City - he was always in the news and has a fanatical support back home!! He would bring alot more attention to little old rovers. Like Bobby said he also got some very big players interested in City. As for the Indian consortium - who is the money man nicko?

Agreed the potential does exist in some countries, IMO, Thailand is not a country that would benefit the club financially to any significant degree, unless King Bhumibol Adulyade was to buy it. Then maybe you would get the Thai people warming to BRFC.
thenodrog Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Shinawatra was hardly bad for City - he was always in the news and has a fanatical support back home!! He would bring alot more attention to little old rovers. Like Bobby said he also got some very big players interested in City. As for the Indian consortium - who is the money man nicko? Eh? Shinawatra took City to the verge of bankruptcy with his fur coat and no knickers tenure. Gary Cook unearthing the Arabs saved their bacon big time. Maybe the smart move would be to bin Rothschilds and get Gary Cook to sell the club.
gumboots Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 What's wrong with Indian or Pakistani origin? IndoPak, must say that's a new one for me! Quick diversion from theme - Asian heritage is the term schools use to cover all children whose families are of Indian pakistani Bangladeshi etc origin.
Hughesy Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Eh? Shinawatra took City to the verge of bankruptcy with his fur coat and no knickers tenure. Gary Cook unearthing the Arabs saved their bacon big time. Who employed Gary Cook to do that!?!?
Bobby G Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 My memory might be hazy but how did Thaksin take them on the verge of bankruptcy?

I take it you are of the, there is no such thing as bad publicity brigade. Shame the fanatical support had jack ...... to do with football. The only time (in general) that football and Shinawatra where used in the same breath/sentance in the Thai media, lasted around a week after he bought them and then during his demise. Wonderful!
BiggusLaddus Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Shinawatra was hardly bad for City - he was always in the news and has a fanatical support back home!! He would bring alot more attention to little old rovers. Like Bobby said he also got some very big players interested in City. As for the Indian consortium - who is the money man nicko? He almost killed them. As soon as the bulk of his assets were frozen (which they still are if not actually seized!) he stopped all funding and the club were relying on loans from the previous directors to pay the wage bill. How much money does he actually have left now? Surely what he does have he is keeping hidden to stop it being seized so is hardly likely to blow it on another football club.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 how many more years of this tedious and depressing "Oh look, someone is looking to buy us ... and now they've disappeared." nonsense will we have to endure? Agreed.Looking at these two the word 'CHANCERS' seems appropriate.....Nowt's changed then, the Wolves still prowl. In the trust we pray. Auction of our beloved Rovers?...FFS
tony gale's mic Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Is it? Try google. Anyway can you differentiate easily? I certainly can't. I don't think "IndoPak" is particularly offensive but "South Asian" is the term that I would use. Anyway "cricket entrepreneur" is quite promising in some ways - especially when you see how much some of the new IPL franchises have been sold for (more than pretty much any Premier League team save the big four). However the serious doubts of the trustees at this early stage aren't a good sign. Overall not particularly exciting news but then to be fair nicko didn't build it up as such. Sounds like it will come to nothing again if I had to put money on it.
