Kelbo Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 But then you have their penalty shout vs our goal over the line vs Brown's handball! Was the ball not over the line? I thought it was!!!

Beta Ray Bill Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Burnley are a disgrace, absolutely no fight or urgency, and their complete lack of desire has made a mockery of the entire derby. Not only that, but this is a team that is facing relegation - you'd expect some degree of passion and effort. I almost feel sorry for Sam and Longsiders that their team is so devoid of everything. Nah, actually I don't. Second glass of champers time.
Balwer Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Was the ball not over the line? I thought it was!!! Not all the way over, I wouldn't have given it (unless it was for Rovers!).
Inta Beaver Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Did anyone else think it sounded like it was kicking off when sky were interviewing Dunn and Samba? Samba didn't know where to look
Guest Kamy100 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Poor match which Rovers controlled, it was all about the result. Well done Rovers!

hollowsr Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Did anyone else think it sounded like it was kicking off when sky were interviewing Dunn and Samba? Samba didn't know where to look Not sure if they're kicking off, just celebrating as they were just now when Sam was on, they are right above them!
jonv Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 very well, organized performance. back line solid and we played with width. olsson was a great attacking threat and unfortunate not to score. few good footballing attacks by us, particularly before we went 1 up.
berkshireblue Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Easy win, though tense at times 31 years and counting Got to say credit to the 3k rovers fans could only hear them we re having a party when you go down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 31 years Get in. Shocking second half - dunno why when we're ahead we always have to play poor in the second half. Referee gave us a massive helping hand - especially with the Brown incident - but even so we (just) deserved the win. Interesting stat in todays Observer, Rovers have concede more goals ( 15) right after half time ( 45 to 60 minute )than any other team in the Prem. Burnley are next with 13. Still a win is a win.
Blue blood Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 As the elation dies down a few things about the team. As posted earlier, whilst Roberts did a decent job today, with a good target man this team could really kick on. Also having Nico who I reckon should've come on instead of Di Santo would mean we could play really tailor our attack to suit the situation. Di Santo - I want to like the guy - and physically he has all the attributes needed. However he seems to have all the predatory instincts of a stuffed hamster. I've a horrible feeling that he won't fulfil his potential and slide down the leagues. Shame as I think with work he could be a good player. I don't think Sam will want to put in the resources, time and money, to do so however, and reluctantly I'm beginning to agree. Defence I thought was great. Salgado struggles for pace, but countered for this well. Very impressed with the rest of the back line, especially Givet who really got stuck in. Given we've also got Nelsen to come back we're well served in defence. Midfield wasn't quite up to it. Olsson definately has made the left midfield berth his own, one of the first names on the team sheet and a position fully sorted imo. The rest all didn't quite have the impact that I thought they would. Thought Diouf, pace aside, was very involved, and unlucky to be subbed before Dunn or Peds. Also think N'Zonzi looks tired and could do with a bit of a break, a few of his passes were poor. Goal - Brown isn't good enough. I know for myself I complain about Robbo a fair bit, but at least he certainly is premiership class. Brown was a liability today, lucky not to get sent off, and the sooner we have a more solid second keeper the better. Never going to make it in the prem. Finally I thought the ref certainly favoured us - another ref would've given them a penalty and bowed to the home fans pressure. Any referee should have sent Brown off too. Can't say he was at fault for Olssons incorrectly disallowed goal - that was the lino's fault. Olsson's shot which bounced off the line, probably wasn't a goal imo, so got that one right too. Sure he should have sent Jensen off, but overall we cannot complain from his performance. However referee aside I think we still deserved to win - or possibly Bunrley deserved to loose. Two good chances in the entire game - in fact only two chances in the entire game says it all. No quality there, and really they should begin preparing for life outside the premiership. I cannot see them getting back up any time soon, and the 31 years should roll into many more.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 B.R.F.C. THE PRIDE OF EAST LANCASHIRE!!!!
broadsword Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Not all the way over, I wouldn't have given it (unless it was for Rovers!). As far as I remember, it doesn't have to be all the way over, the greater part of the ball has to be over the line - and was! It was a perfectly good goal. The football on offer was gash, but it was a derby, so we'll overlook that. If Bunn can't do better than Brown (did he have a couple of snifters before kick-off?) then he should hang his gloves up. A derby strangely lacking in on-field pyrotechnics, bit of a bore really. The ball by Dunn on 72 minutes was an absolute shocker.
Kai Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 very impressed with Olsson today. Didn't see any of his defending side but going forwards he was a real menace. Burnley did nothing till Eagles came on, he looked a class above his teammates. it looked a little tense at times at the beginning of the 2nd half but luckily they just didn't have anything in their capability to trouble us.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 We didnt need to play any better to win the game. Burnley are the worst team ive seen in this league based on that showing. Their defence was astonshingly useless. Laughable. Olsson was handy and Jones/Samba did all they needed to do. Men against boys out there this afternoon. Surprised Kalinic didnt get a run out.
martmitch Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 hmm not exactly gonna go down as performance of the season but 1) it was away from home - we all know how thats gone so far and 2) being local derby was always a danger of it descending into a fist fight. Defence pretty superb, not really troubled and jones proving again he is no one game fluke, his heading when defending in the box i think is particuarly impressive really gets some power behind it, for me I'm more than happy for him to keep his place in the team. Unfortunate tackle to end salgados afternoon, peds got sent off for putting in a similar challenge 1 or 2 seasons ago i remember. Brown didnt really have much to do but was lucky to have not got done for handling outside the area on what should have been a pretty routine clearance, anyone for giving bunn a run for a few games now we can relax a bit? Roberts held the ball up well and was more than a physical match for the bumley defenders but never had any support, after we scored the goal the midfield seemed to sit back even further perhaps under orders to protect our lead. Di santo didnt offer much at all coming off the bench, had poor touches and lost the ball, I can see why hes not starting at the moment. Midfield of dunn, diouf, nzonzi, peds didnt really work today which was a shame, dunn simply ran out of legs and personally think he should have been subbed had it not been for salgado getting injured, the rest were just ineffective. Peds set piece delivery particuarly in first half was terrible. Olson was showing true potential, if we can develop this lad further he will be a good one, endless breaking of their offside line, and a shame his best chances came on his wrong foot, could have had 3 or 4 league double over the dingles, well done the boys and BFS bring on pompey!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Performance didn't matter, the three points did. The fact it was a dive makes it even better, send them down crying. . We deserved to win over the game though so it doesn't really matter.

The ball by Dunn on 72 minutes was an absolute shocker. No from what I can find online had to be wholly across, just like it has to be wholly across the line to be a throw in or goal kick. "ball must wholly cross the touchline to be out of play, and a ball must wholly cross the goal line (between the goal posts) before a goal is scored; if any part of the ball is still over the line, the ball is still in play."
Look4Me Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Olsson was handy and Jones/Samba did all they needed to do. Men against boys out there this afternoon. Surprised Kalinic didnt get a run out. Might be Sam was afraid they were gonna be over the top rough to Kalinic if he came on towards the end, and was trying to protect his top striker.
broadsword Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 That was from reading teh rules 20 years ago, either they've changed or my memory's going :-)
joey_big_nose Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Might be Sam was afraid they were gonna be over the top rough to Kalinic if he came on towards the end, and was trying to protect his top striker. Nope, I think Kalinic hs played his way out of the team with some average displays. He will probably get to come on after he has a rest. Roberts has got the start now again I think after a good performance.
S15 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Roberts' second touch is ALWAYS a tackle. Please don't make me have to look at him next season Sam.
Iceman Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 The big teams always get these decisions!! Ha ha ha about time we did!!!! We are bigger than Burnley
darwenblueswearehere Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 We beat the Dingles, break into the top ten, and go past the 40 point barrier with plenty of games to spare, and still people come on here whingeing about certain players and/or the team generally. FFS chill out and enjoy the moment...........
CrazyIvan Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 On way back on the coach. Fantastic atmosphere by Rovers fans. Next to nothing by Dingles. A deserved win. By the way, handball by a keeper is only red if it denies a clear goal scoring opportunity otherwise it's a yellow and a free kick.
