What on earth is wrong with that? It was truly fair. You sound off about rabid right wingers yet is that not a perfect form of socialism? Or do you only like to cheerily pick and choose socialist principles when it suits?

Why do people who share your views expect other people to pay their way through life? There is already a property tax in the UK in stamp duty and death duty which is a tax on wealth. Most people who have a more expensive property will have paid more income tax and more VAT in the past. People who share your views need to get some self respect and stop themselves from going through life sucking on somebody elses nipple.

In a previous post you suggested I be serious in reply and not be dismissive and rude.

Then you come up with this sort of reply.

There's just no point debating with you.

Johnson has been playing away (allegedly).

Good news for Labour.

Johnson was far too nice. Balls is a political bruiser who will make mincemeat of Osborne as he slashes and burns public services.

Let the battle begin.

It's OK, you're just trolling. Well done. Only a complete cretin would beleive that The Duke Of Westminster should pay the same amount of tax as the person who cleaned his bogs on minimum wage.

Nice one.

Rather an extreme example Colin. However "same amount of tax" should read "same amount of COUNCIL tax". That is far different than total tax as well you know. Has it occurred to you that the Duke is indirectly paying the council tax for the toilet cleaner too btw?

Tell you what if that toilet cleaner lived on your road in a similar house would you be quite happy if his council tax this year was half yours simply because he earned less than you and was quite content to do so forever?

So you want Labour to be perceived as the Nasty party? True colours coming out? So how does that sit with electing that hybrid cross between Odie and Bambi as your leader? I've a strong suspicion that Osborne won't be the only one being made mincemeat of in the next year or two.

"Politics and politicians leave me cold", plus "I never vote"

Forgive me if I regard your comments with the contempt they deserve.

No problem. It's what everybody else on here does with yours. Anyway as I've backed you backed into a corner I think its quite a wise stance for you to take.

Oh yeah Ed Balls was a finance minister when the country was spending more than we had to spend. He is the one who think we should be spending more money and getting the country into more debt and we would have ended up like Greece or Ireland imo.

Sure Ed Balls spend 3 million pounds of TAX PAYERS MONEY on refurbishing his office and department when he was Education minister. GOOD USE of our money.

Don't be silly. Your post was so nonsensical as to be unworthy of a response.

Look back at this thread. It's clear you have no political knowledge. When you are challenged you conveniently ignore the question.

You admit you don't vote, and you admit "politicians and poltics leave you cold".

In short, and as other posters have pointed out, you're not worth bothering with.

Moving on, Nick Robinson on the BBC has just let the cat out of the bag over Johnson's "marriage problems.

There is no front-line politician at present that is more inextricably linked to the woeful economic mismanagement of the Brown era. Uncontrolled spending, reckless borrowing, total denial of the deficit problem. Miliband should have him as far away from the Cabinet as possible.

"Labour spending vs Tory cuts!". What an utterly ridiculous statement and absurd election slogan that was.

Labour investment v Tory cuts was the slogan, and very prescient it turned out to be as the Tories lay waste to vital public services while refusing to tax the bankers who caused the crisis. Johnson's departure has corrected Ed Miliband's mistake and put Balls in his favoured role as chancellor from which he will expose Osborne's Thatcherite monetarist agenda.

No not an extreme example at at all, just an example.

Has it occurred to you that my post was about Council Tax, it was a reply to yours about yours about THE POLL TAX. As you well know.

Has it occurred to you that if you can put forward a reasonable arguement about why the Poll Tax was fair then I'm quite willing to read it.

And as you well know, Council Tax is a tax based on the value of a property, and has no connection to the income of the inhabitants, as you well know. So your comment about the toilet cleaner living on my road is complete DANGLIES and you know it.

So stop being an internet troll. Please read other people's posts and reply to their comments rather than setting off in a different direction to suit your own agenda.

For example, if I were to suggest that you regularly visit Darwen Moor to have carnal knowledge of the sheep that graze there, and that this fact negates your opinions then I would be a bad person. I'd never ever dream of doing this.

Baaaaaaaa

Completely and unequivocally wrong. Don't ever get much right do you Jim? And don't claim that you meant 'Mrs' Johnson in your initial post.

Oh and you are still sidetracking my earlier post about why you want Labour to become the 'nasty' party. You must sorely wish that the EDIT facility wasn't on a time delay.

Bang on and in a nutshell! I thank you. The Poll Tax was good as it took no account of income or property value. It merely took the cost of the local services available and or provided to the local people and levied it unfairly. The council tax is simply a churlish fine on the weakest and most under represented group of people in any given community. Tax on income should always be a matter for central government.

Oh and pardon me if you deem a toilet cleaner living on your road with distaste. You are obviously a social climber and a snob Colin. I was simply using it as a 'what if' example. Rem I don't know if you live in Alderley Edge or Back Mary Ann Street in Moss Side. :wstu: In your attempts to evade my question you have revealed much about yourself as a person. Why don't you answer it? Oh.. and with a degree of honesty too.

Big, big trouble for the Tories and Cameron in particular as PR chief and former NoW editor Andy Coulson resigns.

A NoW reporter went to jail for the phone hacking scandal and the police investigation is continuing. Draw your own conclusions.

Outgoing CBI chief Sir Richard Lambert in 2009...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/nov/19/cbi-richard-lambert-fiscal-hole

"With the latest figures out showing plunging tax receipts and rising spending, Lambert says the CBI wants Alistair Darling to be tougher in bringing the deficit down. "I felt the March budget was a bit of a cop-out. It didn't spell out a sustainable path for the public finances. The size of the structural deficit required more urgent action."

"Lambert supports Osborne's argument that a tougher fiscal policy will allow monetary policy to remain looser for longer, thus boosting the chances of a robust recovery......

.....Lambert said he wanted the deficit to be reduced through spending cuts rather than tax increases"

Whichever way the wind blows.

Gnashing of teeth in the taxi ranks as Labour extend their lead over the Tories.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/jan/25/labour-extends-lead-over-tories-icm-poll

And more bad news for the govt as the British economy makes a shock contraction in the 4th quarter of 2010.

The Con Dems may yet pull off the feat of plunging Britain into a double dip recession and wrecking Labour's economy recovery after the worldwide financial crisis.

  • 2 weeks later...

'Odie' Millibands screwed up again. Does he ever stop to think before he opens his mouth?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/8302479/Ed-Miliband-young-have-it-harder-than-parents.html

Surely he must be aware that the kids leaving school this year were 3 when Blair's New Labour swept into power whereas their parents would have been leaving school in the mid 70's and been fortunate to have reaped the benefits and enjoyed the results and opportunities forged early in their careers by Margaret Thatcher's government.

Alan Milburn's words best highlight the counter productive conflicts generated during New Labour's period of office. A lesson to his colleagues (on both sides of the mace) in honesty and humility.

Alan Milburn, the former Labour cabinet minister who is advising the Coalition on social mobility, said last week that clarity and consistency had to be the foundations on which progress was achieved.

For all of our good intentions and many ground-breaking initiatives Labour in government did not have sufficient of either. At some points the priority was social mobility, at others the eradication of poverty. Tony Blair spoke to aspiration, Gordon Brown spoke of equality, he said. But we failed to accurately define what we were trying to achieve in part because we seemed to be pursuing two notions simultaneously and sometimes independently: one was equality of opportunity, the other equality of outcome.

Dear Gordon

You admit "politicians and politics leave you cold" and you also claim not to vote so excuse me if I treat your Tory rantings with a large barrel of salt.

Here's something for you to mull over with your mates on the 19th hole as Labour extend their lead yet again in the latest polls.
