tcj_jones Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Not ideal I agree but think about it... I see where you're coming from, but let's say Kalinic picks up an injury after the window closes. That leaves us with just Roberts and absolutely no back-up whatsoever. Suggests he then picks up a suspension. Suppose they both get injured, suppose they both go on a horrible run of form. These kind of scenarios are easily imaginable and could see us in a relegation dog fight again before the window re-opens and we can address the problem. 2 strikers? rovers forwards- nikola kalinic jason roberts david hoilett david dunn(in the hole) that`s before getting to young promising prospects like jason banton who`s knocking on the door of a first team squad place. if we start next season minus grella, reid, emerton, zurab and sign nobody i`m still fairly positive about our prospects as a club moving forward. jack`s aim was that we signed up young talent and brought them through, now is the time for us to be doing that with the money gone. i see no reason for us to be signing someone like guti on huge wages and raising the bar league placing wise to something we may struggle to meet. Kalinic and Roberts are recognized strikers. One is young and, while he looks a very good prospect, has yet to perform consistently well or score prolifically, the other is Jason Roberts. Hoilett definitely hasn't played a full 90 minutes as a striker. In fact, I'm not sure he's even featured up top as a sub. Dunn is not a striker. So yes, we only have two strikers on the books. Oh, and I've never even heard of Jason Banton. Considering the fact that he hasn't even featured in the first 16, I wouldn't have thought he's ready to start in the Premier league. It would be suicide to go into the new season with just Kalinic and Roberts as recognized strikers.

Keep saying what you're saying mate, because it's absolutely unbelievable that some of our fans would be happy to go into a new PL season with only Niko and Roberts.

In my opinion Banton is a long way off the first team, I could be wrong but he looked very predictable in the Youth Team games, big lad and can finish but I think he needs another 12 months, maybe he will mature over the summer but |I think to play in the prem he will need more, plus he was operating on the left side of midfield when I watched him, Hitchcock played as a lone striker!
Roberto Policano Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Salgado must be on 60k a week surely or he received a £2 million pound signing on fee, otherwise the figures don't add up. Your accountant isn't an ex-employe of Northern Rock or The Royal Bank Scotland is he. Why do English clubs not release details of the deals like in Europe?

Out of interest, have you seen much of Banton? With Jones and this other CB fella making a good impression, I'm actually finding myself interested in our youth prospects again!

For the same reason that the shareholders of my company don't know my salary I imagine. Why should they? I imagine it wouldn't do wonders in the dressing room for starters.
Kelbo Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 It's pretty dumbfounding, eh? Out of interest, have you seen much of Banton? With Jones and this other CB fella making a good impression, I'm actually finding myself interested in our youth prospects again! There is a 16 year old Full Back called Jackson Ramm, been playing regularly for the reserves, I reckon we will see him come through in 12 to 18 months time, reminds me ever so much of Keith Newton with his style!! As stated earlier, Banton needs more to his locker to play at top level, hopefully it will come, must have something as he was released at Arsenal and they have some great young lads but from what I saw of him against an average Orient side, he didnt impress me at all.
den Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Don't the club keep insisting the priority is a striker too? Yes they do Gumboots, you're right. If it was me managing the club, I would spend every available penny I had on a striker, or strikers. Keep the same squad together and add some goals up front and that would be progress. Same strikers and cash spent on a midfielder wouldn't necessarily make too much difference. For one thing, Roberts isn't ever going to be a 15 goals a season man no matter who's behind him. Big season for Niko as well, he has to improve and as much as people say they are confident he will score goals, they don't know that, do they? So if we go into next season with just Roberts and Niko, and Niko doesn't start scoring more often, we're really going to struggle. We can't continue the success we had last season, by scoring just as few goals. It wont work again.
Roberto Policano Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Time to get those scouts working and looking for some unknown players or some gems that we can develop and sell on for a profit, with our current financial situation it's the only model we can carry out. We can't afford to bring in players with no resale value. Do you actually have a scouting set up at Blackburn,70%-80% of Premiership clubs just scout on agent recommendation,Which is why agent fees are so high in your country. Scouting set up's in England are in the dark ages compared with continental Europe.
vintageadidas Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I believe Rovers are keeping very close tabs on Dragan Mrda. He is currently in budget but his value could rocket if he has a good world cup. So a bid could be made after the first game. I know nothing of him!

I agree we need a striker, yet would Santa cruz have sored the goals he did without Bentley? we have no real provider, perhaps Dunny but for me we have a an average to poor central midfield, Ollsen and Hoilett have given us something more from out wide, Dunny in the hole, but we lose Grella and Reid so we really must get one from somewhere, even a loan signing!

Surely he wouldn't get a work permit?.
vintageadidas Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The guy out of contract at Vojvodina? Surely he wouldn't get a work permit?. That is the one. Didnt know he was without a club, the person i spoke to must have meant "bid" as in towards him! Unsure to be honest. He doesnt even look any good anyways.
Iceman Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The guy out of contract at Vojvodina? Surely he wouldn't get a work permit?. Thanks for cheering the guys up Roberto
Roberto Policano Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Thanks for cheering the guys up Roberto A Serbian game is shown in Italy every week. When i have seen him play,i have often thought he could play in Serie A,Has looked pretty good to me. He is leaving because he wants to join a bigger club,He has run down his contract as he does not want to renew it with Novi Sad,They have not released him. They offered a new contract, but he told them he wasn't staying. He was/is being lined up to replace that Pole you were after from Lech.

Having a provider in the side guarantees nothing.
Al Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 A small fee is surely better than no fee though!?! Yes I do thanks - i also have an iphone with the new app for this site you? Surely 23 posts in a 24 hour period isnt too much?! Yes it is when you are supposed to be working. I have done my bit and am retired.
TimmyJimmy Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 ... let's say Kalinic picks up an injury after the window closes. That leaves us with just Roberts and absolutely no back-up whatsoever... ... It would be suicide to go into the new season with just Kalinic and Roberts as recognized strikers... I'm not arguing with the logic tcjj. Received wisdom says we have to have 4 strikers and we don't have 4 so you're right. However weeing with the willy we've got - the amount of transfer money will not change so we have to make a choice, do we spend big on a striker or a midfielder? In fact on our purse we have I think 6 options : a} spend everything on a striker b] spend everything on a midfielder c] spend a lot on a striker and the residual on on midfielder d] spend a lot on a midfielder and the residual on a striker e] spend big on a midfielder and salt the residual away until we see where we are at Xmas f] spend big on a striker and salt the residual away until we see where we are at Xmas We'd all rather do a] and b] but we can't so for me I'd do e].
chaddyrovers Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I think we should be looking at Katlego Mphela of South Africa. He was pick ahead of Benni McCarthy in the squad for the world cup. He scored 4 goals in his last two international games. I think he will be starting tomorrow for Ssouth Africa. Also we should be looking at Tchite of Racing Santander and Webo of Real Mallorca. Benjani is worth a look on a free and Boyd aswell. we need 2 striker first before we look at any other positions.
tcj_jones Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I think we could go into the new season with three strikers, though it might be a little risky, as we can then address the problem in January, if need be. However, having just two strikers on the books, one of which is distinctly average, is asking for relegation. Using your colourful phrase, haha, if we're to wee with the willy we've got (which is presumably c.2.5), and could only go with one of the options you've listed, then there is no alternative but to go with a). However, were we to have a larger budget, then I'd go with c). This is why I was advocating Ambrose as a signing. He was a very cheap midfield option that would allow us to spend most of our budget on a striker.
Alan75 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 We wont miss Grella or Reid will we? joey_big_nose Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The guy out of contract at Vojvodina? Surely he wouldn't get a work permit?. I think he would. In Serbia world cup squad and has six caps. Enough to get him through the door I think. I can imagine we are interested because he is free! Anyone know anything about him? He scored two against Japan recently, 26 years old, seems to have played the whole of his career so far in the Balkans...
chaddyrovers Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Nicko are we still interest in Robert Lewandoski? i've heard a rumour that we are interest in Marc Janko? have u heard anything about this Nicko?
