nicko, would Big Sam take a chance on Championship Striker like Hooper or Maynard. A mate who lives in Norway say that we are interest in Pedersen the norwegian striker? Is this true? Are they any other striker targets you know about???

the report in the telegraph also says that live targets a few weeks ago arn't there now ...polish guy ? boyd ? dindane?? cant think of any other strikers who have moved recently who would have been in our price range

im surprised your mate owen hasn't done more business, he can't be happy going into another season with megson's cloggers. Not sure were robbie blake fits in with the young and hungry targets.

Good things come to those who wait.

Lewandovski was probably the first choice...too dear.

Dindane was just a mess and probably put too many people off with his behaviour.

Piquionne was considered a good buy on decent wages by West Ham.

I don't think Boyd was ever a real possibility.

Hooper is not Premier League standard. Maynard might be, but would cost a fair amount.

Pedersen is one of about ten [maybe more] strikers who have been checked on that I have heard about.

Nobody has ticked all of the boxes so far.

The money box in particular.

i wonder if we are interest in Gary Hooper from Scunthorpe United? Good goalscoring record last season. Maybe we should take a chance on a championship striker.

How much do Ipswich want for that kiddie they've got?

Not to mention Guti's legs have gone.

What happened, car crash????

Atleast we keep on retaining our current players:

Rovers are delighted to announce that defender Grant Hanley has become the latest top young prospect to pledge his long-term future to the club.

The Scotland Under-19 international follows in the footsteps of Martin Olsson and Phil Jones by signing a new five-year contract, which will keep him at Ewood Park until the summer of 2015.

I will try to be brief as I don't want to drag your topic away. Not a majority no, but lots of Villa fans feel his time has come. Most frustrating manager ever, so good in some ways but fatally flawed in that he can't spend money wisely, his ego causes issues within the squad which is split between one group of players who love him (his favourites) and those who despise him (Reo-Coker, Shorey, L.Young and co).

His football is ######, his invention in the market is ######, he's spent so much money. SO SO much money, just look through our transfers since hes arrived as I don't believe neutrals actually appreciate HOW much he has spent, it's crazy. For what we've spent, I am not looking at a squad even half as good as it could/should be.

Imagine Moyes with our club and that money, we'd be a totally different and superior team. MON just can't leave his comfort zone, i'll support him while he's here obviously as thats just how you have to be as a fan and admittedly he's made big strides with the club, theres just no more we can do with him and i think we need to bin him for someone more shrewd and intelligent in the market, and someone who doesn't think lumping it to (and in fact, signing) emile heskey is intelligent.

Similar to my feelings albeit from afar. God only knows why but a myth appears to have been built up around Martin O'Neill that he is some kind of footballing messiah. In reallity he's just about an OK kind of manager who for some reason has always been linked to top jobs including the Old Trafford hot seat. In reallity I see him as an aggravating little tawt who for some reason brings out the worst in me.

Whats the situation with Andy Carroll at NUFC? He's supposed to be in contract negotiations with Newcastle. Stoke and Bolton have been reported as showing interest too.

He'd be a proper Sam-type centre forward imo.

What makes you think hooper isn't premier league standard nicko? Have you watched him much? Just wondering as I have watched quite a bit of the lad as he was on loan down here at Hereford. Scored goals for fun and then made the step up to the championship and had a similar scoring record. I personally don't see any reason why he wouldn't score goals at the highest level.

Just been give the number 9 shirt, doubt he is going anywhere.

Nice bloke all the same. ;)

I think he is a lower league goalscorer from what I have seen of him. No harm in that.

All of the clubs who have tried for him are from the Championship - apart from Celtic.

His fee is quite low and his wages sensible.

So he is available and nobody in the top flight has tried.

Maynard is different. He has something about him that could set him apart. Bit of speed and a brain. Good player.

Carroll would cost a fortune...and he might not be 'available' all of the time next season...let's just leave it at that.

What does he have to his game that will make him a success in this league though? I genuinely haven't seen much of him.

Having an eye for goal simply isn't enough. If he isn't big and strong, or very fast, or very skillful, then he doesn't stand a chance...no matter how good his finishing is.

'Fox in the box' strikers just don't exist at the top level any more.

Sol Bamba, who was linked with us the last 2 summers, has failed to report to pre-season training with Hibs. Seems like the link with us has re-surfaced as a result. Can't see it. I'd suggest centre back is the last position we need to sign a player in right now.

Can we have a new forward now please Mr. Allardyce sir.

Hooper is quick, very quick and has a great touch and shot. He is the type of player who plays on the shoulder of the last defender and leaves them for dead. His workrate isn't the best without the ball, he won't 'do a dickov' and chase everything and hassle defenders.

Not great in the air but a player who could link up well with a striker holding the ball up

Isn't Carroll getting sent down for assault?

So did Duncan Ferguson and he'd have done a job for any team of Sams.

We can't afford to be picky if there is a chance of signing a better player than we already have.

no point signing someone who may miss a proportion of the season.

Sounds like the guy has a bit of a temper didn't he lamp one of his team mates last season.

Finally to compare Carroll to Ferguson is pushing it to say the least.

I don't like to be over negative but surely its vital to have something in place before Australia as no business will be done during the tour will it?

I just hope we don't end up desperate and pulling a minger at the end of the night
